Discovery RP server has been attacked starting 7:30am GMT today.

Evidence is being collected and server itself will have to stay down for some time before it's safe to start it up again.

EDIT: Server will stay down for a few days.

Hopefully it's back up soon, but I suppose I can wait. Whatever you do, don't let us pressure you into restarting it before it is actually completely safe. The last thing we want is to be too hasty and lose the server altogether.

I foresee a brutal and near-mindless crusade possibly arising from some of the more aggressive members of the community. I'm content to sit back and watch, however.

Good luck tracking the git/piecing it back together, Maj. You do so much simply by hosting the server.

Hmm this is most unfortunate. It's most likely someone who was recently banned and/or severely penalized however, so hopefully their incompetence will spill over into this effort as well.

All this talk of revenge and what not is pointless, we have the information, something can and will be done. But as to who is responsible that shouldn't be conjectured until we can prove that someone is to blame. So let's leave comments about Tenacity out of this thread. Innoncent until proven guilty and there's no reason to suspect him at all.

I think jump-gates that lead to dirty sites is one of the best ideas I ever heard here.

We'll be in the next beta release anyway. Hope that GC is back online soon. . . and just so you know, no I did not DDoS GC or anything like that. I think it is great to have more than one server to choose from. Gives you a variety of different situations.

This is not the first time Discovery was attacked, neither is it the first time a Freelancer server was attacked. It can have some serious-ish consequences, yes but except for the server owner and administrators, there is nothing we can do about it.

As Athenian pointed out very well, it's time to write up some roleplay.

Probably going to the extremes - but I've had sites of mine DDoS'ed before. . . probably did something wrong and just got pissed off with the admins deciding it was against the rules. . .

I have a dynamic setup - so I get traffic problems, I just reboot the server and all is fine again (theoretically of course - things can always go wrong )
