Cutting out the arbitrary shape of a sword without forging at all? Obviously silly, I bet it would break on the first clash should it face an actual sword and not just a melon. And of course I could buy a lot of fancy words for decoration, because most of these crap are only meant for that and none of their creators care much about properly weighting or balancing them.

You forget that in my fantasy setting, G=1 m/s^2, F=/=ma, and up is down.
Also, swords were among the least used weapons of the medieval period. If only fantasy writers used all those incredibly cool looking polearms out there...it's very hard to design an impractical polearm head.
