This is Katsuo Shimoe personal log, a Junyo born Kusarian in service of the Kusari Naval Forces

The last months have been calm aboard the Miyoko. Pirate activity on the jump gates to Galileo and Kepler has been under control and commander Koji's patrols have been catching smugglers as soon as they show up outside the Keiun cloud. With the flight roster almost intact from the Tau conflict and the recent reassignment of veterans from the frontline, my status as a rookie hasn't given me much opportunity to participate in anything other than round trips to Fuchu prison and trade lane gazing.

Other than that, I can't say I have any complaints being here. From the observation deck I can see in the distance Junyo, my homeworld. I haven't been receiving many news form my family, other than a message from Mizuki. Apparently her work paid off, and she finally managed to be hired by Kishiro main branch in Honshu. She always has this ambitious aura. I guess I have to arrange a meeting with her to celebrate such occasion.

On the other hand, I still haven't heard from my brother Hiraku, and it's been three, maybe four years since he left Junyo. At the beginning I thought he just went to New Tokyo to start a career as a pilot, but when several months passed without notice, I began to fear he had attempted to travel to Bretonia in search of the whereabouts of our father.

Suddenly a beep comes from the intercom, and a voice informs that Shimoe should present himself to his Santo Kaisa (Lt.Cmdr.) Takahara in mission control. Shimoe saved the log and stores the datapad away, before leaving the barracks.

It's been a few hours since I completed my latest assignment given by Lt.Cmdr. Takahara. I'll probably will stay for awhile in New Tokyo before the Lt.Commander recalls me.

A few days ago Lt.Cmdr. Takahara informed me that the Primary fleet task-force was expecting the arrival of a newly built Kusari Battleship coming from Rheinland shipyards. Although the primary fleet had enough assets to perform the escort and it wasn't directly related to the affairs of the Shikoku command, someone in the command thought it would be wise to mark our presence in the arrival and send a small fighter wing.

Lt.Cmdr. Takahara was tasked to select the participants, and I was amongst the selected. I was hesitant to ask the reasons, but he predicted my concerns and told me boringly that I was turning lazy and needed to see how a real operation feels.

The wing was to be led by Lt.Sakaga, and included 2nd Lt. Seok, and Ensign Ikou and myself.

However, due to engine malfunction Seok ship was unable to launch and several other issues made the other two pilots return to the base midway. Seeing that time was running short, I was ordered to proceed alone to Akita Border Station in Honshu an link up with the main task-force.

I arrived to the area of Akita station and linked up with KNF forces, a few minutes before the arrival of the battleship.

The KDS-Izanagi arrived to the Akita station escorted by several ships of the KNF and Rheinland Military. It seemed that the voyage to Kusari had been uneventful and we proceeded to Yokhama shipyard, where the Izanagi would receive its final touches. The Izanagi looked like it could become a very fine vessel, and unfortunately with all the commotion I forgot to take some visual recordings of the operation. The rheinlanders seemed friendly and at ease with the procedures of our Navy.

We arrived at the shipyard safely and bid our thanks and farewells to the RM. I was allowed to dock with the compound, where I currently am.

The other day I was on the Honshu system, returning to base after a courier mission to the Planet Honshu. On the vicinity of Yukawa Shipyard I'm hailed by the KDS-Hatsuyuki (gunboat class) of the first fleet, with a warning that some uncooperative bretonian vessels had been spotted in the tradelanes of the western regions. I asked if the Hatsuyuki desired assistance, and the captain invited me to join his patrol of the outer systems. During the patrol to Kyushu we made our presentations and talked about several topics. While I was asked about my views regarding the current situation in Kusari foreign policy and KNF internal affairs, I managed to ask about the main fleet operations in against the Blood Dragons and GC in the north, and is there was any news about the old emperor forces which hadn't returned.

We crossed Kyushu and headed to Tau-29, to continue the patrol on the Edge Worlds near our borders. Although uneventful, I learned a lot about the patrol routes and astronomical objects present is these systems. After Tau-23 and Tau-37, we arrived at the Nagano system. We proceeded back to New Tokyo to with the captain telling me several war stories he knew. We detected no irregularities with any merchant vessels we passed by.

We were about to end the patrol above New Tokyo when the Hatsuyuki detected disturbances on tradelanes in the system. He ordered me to verify the Kyushu gate while he proceeded to check the Shikoku and Honshu gates. A few minutes later the Hatsuyuki had located an Outcast vessel, probably a cruiser. I rushed to assist him and reinforcements were summoned, with one bomber, callsign Jaaku-na joining the fray. The Outcast was engaged near Shinagawa Station. With me providing cruise suppression and with the combined power of the gunboat and bomber, the Outcast ship rapidly fell.

With a recommendation to seek a transfer to the main fleet operations, the Hatsuyuki captain thanked my assistance and bid farewell, taking the bomber with him. I proceeded to New Tokyo and landed on the planet for some RnR.

Following the recommendation of joining the main fleet taskforce, I requested a transfer to my commander. Lt. Cmdr. Takahara was pleased with my performance on the previous sorties and showed no objection to the request. It seems that the Hatsuyuki captain had some influence, for with my letter of acceptance into the primary fleet also arrived a notice of my promotion to Nito Kaii.

Packing my things and saying farewell to Lt.Cmdr. Takahara and the rest of the wing, I departed to Planet New Tokyo Fighter Division Base.

It saddened me a little that I was going further away from home, but if I could ensure the safety of the people in Planet Junyo and of Kusari by acting in the main fleet, I wouldn't even consider it a loss.

Just a few hours after I had arrived on New Tokyo there was a scramble order. Outcast ships had been detected nearby Shinjuku station and the taskforce was sent to intercept and destroy. I launched in my Chimaera and arrived midway trough the battle. According to a report by 2nd Lt. Teta Nakamura, the enemies consisted of a destroyer escorted by a bomber and a fighter. Superior firepower and coordination achieved a victory for the KNF forces, although I was bogged down in a losing dogfight with one of them before other pilots were able to assist me.
With the Outcasts defeated and my ship damaged, I was forced to return to base and unable to proceed in the following patrols.

On this day a joint operation between KNF and the Rheinland Military was to occur and all available vessels were requested to sortie. It seemed that some sort of alien artifact or component was found in Rheinland space and they wanted to investigate it in our facilities in Kansai Research Station in the Honshu System. We assembled at Akita Border Station in the same system and waited for the Rheinland convoy to arrive. Amongst the present was the fully commissioned KDS-Izanagi which I had met before, and also Kaisho-ho (Rear Admiral) Hijikata of KNF High command.

A few moments passed, and from the vicinity of the Sigma-13 jumpgate came a lone rheinlander fighter. The pilot was a bretonian in service of the RM and it seemed that he was the carrier of operation target. While assessing what happened to his escort wing, we were ordered to proceed to Kansai while a fighter detachment proceeded to Sigma-13 to assist in some sort of search and rescue operations for the rheinlanders.

As we arrived at Kansai, the RM pilot started to behave in a erratic way, shouting nonesense and most certainly being affected by the prolonged exposure to the alien object. While our officers tried to persuade him to hand over the object safely, we received a message that the rheinland convoy was under attack again and requested assistance. I was ordered to leave the Kansai area and go assist the KNF and RM forces in Sigma-13, but could not arrive before 2nd Lt. Ujisato Gamo was shot down.

Arriving at Naha station in that system a standoff between our forces and elements of VWA and Kusari terrorist organizations (relevant information could not be retrieved). An order to engage the vessels was issued the commander in field, and we begun to battle the enemies. However I was struck by some interfering phenomena (could not determine if it was a ecm device) and my ship's navigation and tracking was disabled. Almost immediately I felt that the some of the terrorists were aiming at me, and ejected from my ship before it exploded from concentrated firepower of an enemy fighter.

Fortunately the closeness to the Naha Station allowed my pod to be recovered quickly, and after a few hours I was aboard a transport ship to Planet Honshu with the other pilots who were recovered form the skirmish.

These last days have been frenetic, with the KNF facing hostile ships almost everyday throughout the most populated systems. Our domestic targets have been quiet recently, but we had constant encounters with Outcasts in the core sectors, sometimes bringing capital ships into the tradelanes of New Tokyo. Not only them, but Junker smugglers and even Lane Hackers have been increasing their presence in the vicinity of Shikoku and Tau-23 systems.
Normally these would be handled by the police forces, but it seems that recently they have been a little out of the scene, concentrating on suppressing the Blood Dragons and Golden Chrysanthemums. There have been rumors that a recent change in the power structure of the Dragons has begun to be noticed in recent events.
We also had to increase the frequency and firepower of our patrols, for there was an increase of activity Nomad vessels and Order agents acting in Kusari.

I have been able to keep myself safe, even if sometimes I had some close calls in some of the patrols, having to defer to my comrades the finishing blow. I just hope I can improve fast enough so I can begin repaying those efforts.

It's been awhile since my last writing. I guess I'll have some days to catch up now. At the moment I'm in the medical ward after a confrontation with the Aoi Iseijin in this system.

Yesterday I lost my fighter during the fights in the Taus. It was a strange spectacle, so much war and bloodshed happening so near to our borders. Such bloodshed would have reached our planets if the decision to stop the war had not been taken. It is this young peace, this fragile republic that the Navy defends.
The situation out there is complicated, I'm sure of that now. But even inside Kusari, and even amongst the KNF there are dangers.

I had heard from the veterans that a year ago a full division had deserted our ranks for unknown reason and escaped Kusari. Many guessed that the mysterious disappearance of a high ranking official during operations in the Taus was the reason, but no official report was issued, and rumors stood just as rumors.

However, certain events have brought these issues back to the fore. The missing division suddenly returned to Kyushu and surrendered to our forces. Apparently their leaders were of great interest to high command, for several operations were halted and many squadrons were put in high alert.

A certain task force was assembled in New Tokyo and instructions were given to it's members. According to intelligence gathered from the deserters, a high ranking officer had been cooperating with foreign organizations to weaken the strength of the navy, and was in the process of defecting.
The taskforce encountered the fleeing officer aboard his battle cruiser in the New Tokyo System. The officer was none other than the Kaisho Nagata of the main fleet.
A long pursuit to the north ended in Tohoku, were the fleeing vessel led it's pursuers into a trap. To my surprise his allies were the iseijin, the humans who had become possessed by alien entities, and the vice-admiral was amongst them. Their forces overwhelmed the destroyers leading the taskforce and proceeded to eliminate all of the navy forces.
I was amongst the pilots shot down, and only by luck did reinforcements from the battleship Sado prevented the capture of many of the stranded pilots.

I have been wounded on my shoulder, and while it's not critical, it will take some days before I'm transfered to Hiroshima or New Tokyo for full recovery. Doctor said it would take at least a week to be discharged from the hospital, and probably a month until I could recover completely from it.
