Prelude to War Chapter I - Kyushu raid - Char Aznable - 02-13-2015

A woman of Kusari origin stares into the camera. She is middle-aged, her hair already starting to grey out a bit, leaving her in the unpleasant phase of life where the youth is gone, but the time of retirement is still far away.
Although wearing a uniform of the Kusari Naval Forces, she looks... Off. Menacing. As she speaks, every comms channel in the immediate vicinity of the convoy silences. A Navy Emergency channel, you realize. So this broadcast is seen in all of Kyushu, then?
She straightens as she starts to speak, in a loud and clear, surprisingly pleasant voice, which at the same time doesn't fit her and seems to underline her authority.

“Citizens of Kyushu. This is Sakuma Hitomi, Kaigun-Chusho of the Dai San-Yon-San Kaigun Kokutai of the Imperial Kusari Navy. Some of you may remember my squadron as the Shoguns personal guard, unless the republican Propaganda didn't erase the memories of the people who fought for you in the Tau War, and against Gallias onmarching assault.”

She bows a bit, seemingly paying respect equally to the citizens as to the soldiers who died for them.

“Citizens of Kyushu, I bring to you a message of hope. Your one true Master, Tenno Kogen, is still alive, and he is still fighting for the right of the Kusari people to be free of the gallic foreign rule. The Tenno still is the only person living who bears the mandate of heaven, and that makes him obliged to save you from the gaijin who took over the rule in this most wonderful of all the human Colonies.”
Her face suddenly shows the start of anger, only to be calm again as she continues with her speech.
“Citizens of Kyushu, I am just one woman aiming to do the right thing. One Samurai, true to her oath and loyal to her master, like the old way, the one thing that makes us Kusari, dictate. I urge you to do so. I say to you that the time is right! I propose you that the corrupt government will fall! I say that the people of Kusari has had enough!

She makes a fist with the right hand, a gesture she possibly adopted in the long days fighting alongside Bretonians and Libertonians alike.

“Citizens of Kyushu, we are Kusari! We are one people! Aside from all our differences, apart from everything that sets us apart: We. Are. One.
Unite under the flag of your true saviour, and the weak Ronin of the Naval Forces will have nothing in their arsenals to stop us. We got your back. We will demonstrate you how weak the Naval Forces are.”
A gesture, and a convoy (Your convoy!) flickers on the transmission. It is headed for Nansei, flying in the depths of Space. Suddenly, you realize that there must be something making this transmission, some camera, but where the heck... Above!
As the Bomber wing of the exiled Naval fleet cuts through your convoy like a katana through paper, you realise that an attack has begun. The Komadori, the gunboat sent from Nagumo, goes up in flames. You charge the guns. This is what they pay you for. In the comms channel, you hear panicked chatter, and on one frequency, almost like a chanting in the background, one voice, bellowing an order.
Tora! Tora! Tora!

// Oorp information

As the exiled Fleet has gone with bretonian and council resources for a very long time now, there are many supply lines to be satisfied. With the reappearance of the 343rd, though, those supply lines are not sufficiently equipped with transports. In desperate need of tankers to supply their fleet, the 343rd turns to the only viable option - attack. They attack a tanker convoy supplying Nansei Research station with H-Fuel, while making sure that the people of Kusari hear of their efforts in the name of the emperor, in the hope of instating a rebellion by showing the weakness in the rotten KNF.
Plan:
The first Exile attack, one of their characteristic torpedo assaults, gets the convoy by complete surprise. The gunboat escorting it gets taken out with the first salvo, leaving the convoy in chaos. The torpedo Bombers immediately flee, giving Nansei the possibility to dispatch a fast response unit before the second wave of Exiles arrives, in fighters this time, pinning down the escorts with the intention of drawing them away from the transports. Meanwhile, the Transports are attacked by assault shuttles sent from the Kaga, who is hiding in the distance, covering the retreat of the entered transports and the surviving fighters. Despite the good planning, the Exiles hadn't seen the State Police patrol coming, which patrols nearby and decides to take on the strikeforce in the hope of driving them back.

The general intention of this event is RP. Respawns are only allowed for the Exiles (as they change from the retreating bombers to the fighters, and only then. Shot down fighter means shot down fighter.). Exile strikeforce is commanded by the {343}, as they initiated the operation. In general, it should be possible for the transports to be taken, as the fighter pilots know that they have to get the tankers out at all costs.

As long as it won't be battleship or another cruiser, sure. 343 want to capture ships, not to be ganked afaik.

Some points I want to ask regarding this event:

- After such a motivating (and open channel speech) to Kusari, the first thing you do it targeting a civilian convoy. It's not a very wise thing to do in terms of logistics and public relations.

First, it confirms the Republican propaganda view that the Exiles (and the BD in similar events) are warmongers and terrorists. Second, Being near a research station, and close to one of the main military installations of the KNF (BS Nagumo), I doubt the KNF would only send a "check if everything is alright" 2 snub wing to the area. Third, if you Really want to target Kishiro, and have these ideal conditions, you could prey for a convoy heading to Nago station (T-29), where the KNF would be slower to respond.

- Kishiro participation. It seems from a few contacts that this event is news to them, as they hadn't heard of it beforehand. Do you intend to work with indies, or want the cooperation of the player faction?
How is the transport convoy to behave, if you want to fight and capture them, but not destroy? What re the triggers for the change? What transports are they fielding, in your view?

- Event date. Usually this is planned in the reverse way. You suggest a date from the start, so that people may check if they are available and can participate. Then adjust accordingly the day and hour to allow the best outcome. Being aware of when other events occur is ideal to prevent overlapping.
