Heya again....

I was just wondering... Im lagging a lot, sometimes ( And I dont mean the FL Hook problem just now ), even though i have 10Mb Cable, and I live like 5 km far from the server... Do you guys lag ?

I lag in totally un-logical situation... when is there 15 people I lag so much that when i exit lane, I runt thru planet, and then when theres 150, I dont have even a slight lag...

And any tips to avoid it? No kicking into router wont help (tested(:D

Could be your NIC card. If its an intermittent fault then you will see results as to what your describing. Do you have another laying around? If your using the on-board LAN in your motherboard, it could be your motherboard.

Have you checked with your ISP to see if there are any faults in your area?

Have you checked your router/modem and the cables connecting to it, it could be a faulty router too.

Do you experience lag in other games such as a first person shooter or another RPG?

In my experience on how the server handles Freelancer depends on how its feeling on the day. It can handle it very well, there was a time where it never crashed for days. And other times when it crashed lagged and decided not to boot up again after auto-maintanance.

Also, when you lag, ask others in TeamSpeak, MSN, Skype or in-game if they are lagging out too. Might help you determine whether it is a server side or client side problem.

Hope this helps.

After playing on a few servers now, sometimes it can be the smallest of things that cause lag. i.e. someone with a low connection speed ( dial up or less than 1mb ) Someone downloading something as well as playing on the server, someone playing on the server and someone else on the same network also online, these can all affect the whole server and cause lag.
Not pointing any fingers here before anyone jumps down my throat :D but these can all cause lag for everyone.

Are you sure it is lag and not the computer choking on packets?:$
