Interstellar travel... a dream. Oh yeah, we do it.. we actually came here 800 years ago this way. But as it is now we are restricted to jumps.. jump gates are remarkable, but I see some problems: they are fixed points in space, they are owned by governments, companies and so... and they can be blown up, as we have seen in the Liberty-Rheinland war. Jump holes.. fixed points too, but my work can start from them. Sometimes new one appears, allowing us even to find new systems.. if I can understand how to reproduce that formation, well, then we could explore every corner of Sirius. I'm sure there's still a lot to find.
Seems simple but it's not, the concept is there, a wormhole that bring you almost instantly to point A to point B. If I can reproduce the formation on point A, then I should also create one on point B, the exit point, or I could connect to an already existing hole.
Then, there is another theory.. hyperdrives. Like that ship appearing some years ago.. the Vengeance. But that requires a great amount of power and thus would be restricted only to giant capital ships.
So.. my journey of discovery begins. It has to be this way. After Leeds became a battleground I had to load my small transport with all my research. Initially, I thought Cambridge would be a good place, but then I realized that those "academics" sometimes..well, often, are too close minded.
So I made a decision: i needed to travel. And explore. So, while exploring anomalies, jump holes and so.. I also began to trade along the way, useful to make money, meet a new people, heard rumors and so on. One day i'll need a new ship, some kind of science ship, with room for a small lab onboard.
But I can't do it all alone. I need a base of operation, and maybe people to work with, even if I've always been a lone wolf. There has to be some group interested in this kind of research.
Actually, sailing Bretonian space I heard about Nebula Complex and its remarkable labs... I don't know what they study inside, but maybe I should make contact. The other day, returning to Cambridge to recover a few things, I met a guy from Freelancer Escorts & Repairs, but I only gained confirmation on those labs, and have not obtained any contact. Maybe I should send a transmission to them directly. On Cambridge I also heard rumors about a scientist who have a theory about hypergates.. could be an interesting lead.
Well, I'll head to Manchester and try to knock Nebula Complex's doors.

While on Manchester, my sensors detected a strange spike in the nearby system of Cortez, and I went there to investigate. It came from a jump hole near planet Curacao, but by the time I arrived there the situation stabilized, so I wasn't able to gather much data.
I was about to return when I heard on open comms a chatter... approaching their position, they were a crayterian, a maltese and an artificial intelligence.. no, it's not a joke. The two were chatting amicably, while the AI was observing. They even mentioned the Daam K'Vosh, the supposedly advanced race who created the Nomads, and a rumor about an alien jump gate. Should I search for that gate? Should I study alien technology to help me reach my goal?
I was about to contact the AI.. but then I don't know much about them. Could be an idea.. if they indeed are logical beings, my final objective should be logical enough for them to help me... and I think it would be easier working with them that with the majority of humans...wait... what did I just say? I should remember to delete that last sentence from the log...

Nothing interesting to report the last days. I'm not making much progress. Oh, I'm exploring new places, I even found an ancient jump gate in Coronado... that structure is interesting and scaring.
Well, there's a small news, I could afford a new ship. A Voyager.. albeit still small, I could find place for a tiny lab inside. I sacrifice cargo space, but I don't do much trading, so..
Anyway, today, studying the jump holes in Coronado and Cortez.. yes, I'm still searching for that strange spike I detected last week.. well I made an encounter. First time i was so busy that I didn't answer the comm.. I don't know... that guy, Jimmy, must have thought I was asleep. Fortunately enough, there weren't hostile ships nearby.
We'll meet later on Barrier Gate. He's from Freelancer E&R so maybe he could help me get in contact with Nebula Complex, or give me some information about them. And.. he seems to travel a lot, could be useful. We'll see..

So, I've met that Jimmy guy. Actually, I bumped into him.. anyway, at first i thought the encounter wasn't worth it, as I was told that Nebula Complex labs are not open yet.
What came later was instead really interesting:
- The guy came up with a proposal, he wants to build a base, and as he seem interested in jump holes, he would build a lab for me in that base! And..practically at no cost for me. He just wants a portion of eventual money we would gain from my research. He wouldn't claim my research..at least, he says so.. well he seems reliable. Will pass some time until the construction begins, so I do not have to decide now, but I'm inclined to work with him. The alternative would be the IRG, but I cannot risk a "no" and having no alternative.
- The other interesting part is a little trip we made. He told me he already been there some times. Kansas system... there's a jump gate hidden in a nebula... very ancient.. seems more ancient than the one in Coronado. We took it, and I scanned®istered all I can.
Boy, that was a trip! I'm almost certain that the gate conducts to a place outside Sirius... and that would be also a goal of my research.
In that system, we had to make it quick, as there is a darned radiation who liked my hull.. it was eating it very well.. he brought me to some strange structures, energy cells of some kind.. and to a sort of jump hole plaza. Lots of jump holes, all very near.. he already mapped many of them, and every one of them conduct to a key system in Sirius. New York, New Berlin, etcetera... so, I don't think it's a coincidence, they must've been created recently. This would confirm my theory, 'bout the possibility to create them, and there's more: the exit point isn't visible from the arrival system.. so could also be that they can be redirected! All these clues leads at what I want to achieve. Maybe that power cells create the energy essential for that.
I'm just theoryzing.. as always.. I still have to study the data gathered... that radiation did make some damage, so I've lost something... oh, and I have to send the exit point to New Berlin to Jimmy. There was a Nomad and he ordered me to jump. I instintively jumped but then felt regret in leavin' him alone. Fortunately it seems it all went well.

In these days, I assembled a small crew: a friend of my brother as pilot for my ship, and two scientist I knew years ago on Cambridge.
While I wait for Jimmy's project, I made my "mobile lab", and with the pilot I can do a little trading while we study, We will need the money so I opted for that. I don't know for how much that poor pilot could resist bringin' around us three, but until he keeps a percentage of the trade earnings I guess he's fine.
Today, special assignment. We've received the broadcast and guess what, a Sigma-Colorado jump hole appeared! Someone's beaten me? I certainly are not happy with that, but then, on the other hand, I should be, because my goal is possible. So, of course, we've headed for that hole.
Funnilly enough, while on Colorado side, we've met Jimmy passing by with his transport. Maybe now I know why he's interested in this research.. trade opportunities! Heh, that guy... anyway, this jump hole is unstable, but we took the trip to Sigma and back. The exit point was not exactly near the hole on the other side, due to its instability.
Now we'll remain on Colorado side, and while we're here, we could obtain some gate parts at Pueblo... yes, that little crew idea was good, the pilot is in good relations with them.. he'll make the purchase and I'll remain in shadow. Apart from that, there could be a way to stabilize the anomaly, we will work on that, but i fear we don't have the tool nor the power for doing that, and there's little time.
Now, it would be interesting to met the ship who created this anomaly...
