RE: Red Hessian capital ship lore - Enkidu - 04-20-2017

After being recently reminded that this thread exists (thank you), I believe that it's reasonable for Red Hessians to have capital ships - they are a major regional power in the Omegas and have been refining their military technology over decades of conflict with the Corsairs. They're a mini-society of their own. It's entirely reasonable that they created ships of all kinds to cope with the conditions of the Omegas.

It is, however, odd that they manufactured the Hel, as the Red Hessian movement itself wasn't very old at the time, nor was the largest Rheinland Unlawful Faction at the time. Unioners usually roleplay it as a Unioner design, of which the blueprints were sold to the Red Hessians back when both factions were comrades, and over time the Unioners have manufactured so many of the things that they've sold Hels to every other Rheinland unlawful group. The Hessians took the Hel blueprints and modified it into the Vidar, once they got their own capital vessel construction facilities.

An infocard update to reflect that would be wonderful, but that's down to Wesker and the Devs.

As for Unioner caps (and the lack of them), that is a noticeable dilemma. It's not as if the Unioners can't afford them, or cannot produce them, or can't man them. It's more a state of dev time. Is it reasonable to wait for a year or so for the existence of a Unioner cap line? Do we need a Unioner capline? I would argue the contrary - there already is a Unioner capline: the Rheinland Lawful cap line.

The current Rheinland Lawful capital ships are designs that hail from the GMG-war era, as evidenced by GMG-war wreckage and ships from vanilla singleplayer, such as the Westfalen. Whilst the equipment and internals of the warships have doubtless vastly evolved, the hulls remain the same as designed by the Alster Union under the Rheinland Empire.

So what ships would qualify as Unioner capital ships? Simple: The Donau heavy cruiser, and the Oder gunboat. Other Rheinland caps would not qualify.

For what reason? It's simple:

The turtle, whilst an iconic GMG-war vessel, is enormous and doesn't fit the Unioner image of skulking around asteroid fields, trading artifacts up to Liberty. It's too big to imagine that the Unioners could make use of them in any significant number.

The Elbe is too new, being a recently designed vessel for the Rheinland/Liberty war, and thus the Unioners wouldn't have the blueprints. It's also too big for purpose.

The Tirpitz is even newer than the Elbe, and whilst you could imagine Unioners using battlecruisers, it's still too darn new.

We are currently working towards a 100% perk on RM caps, to go with our current ID. Since we are bound to cruisers and gunboats, we shouldn't have any problems with people using the wrong vessels. We are currently roleplaying a small stockpile of ancient, GMG war era vessels that had been intercepted by the Union on their way to the breaker's yard, following Rheinland's post 80 years war demilitarization, along with incomplete hulls that were obtained right out of the cradles when the Alster riots broke out. We hope to do the roleplay with Yber and RM, because it's their assets, of course.

This would also fix a major issue with Unioners only viably able to fly the condor gunboat, which doesn't make for very good gunboat options (the Kusari explorer is just too darn kusarian).

It's a good idea. But how did bundschuh get access to rheinland ships?
