● Good morning, mister Polstari. My name is Ernson Carver and I’m private investigator. Here’s my assistant Michael Rosse. Your manager has hired us to help Zoners return what they have lost today. So can you tell us what exactly happened five hours ago, between Kyushu Gates and Nago Station? And a small note... our conversation is being recorded.

○ Kallisti... is it normal to jump on me like this, right after I woke up? This is a hospital, a place where you let people recover, before you bother them with your investigation?

● True… But, time is a luxury we don’t have, Sir. Zoner vessels were attacked and all details are strange a lot. Please, help us and help your colleagues. ● But weren’t you crossing the frontline between two opposing Kusari sides within? Were you about to cooperate with Kusari Naval Forces? Could there be any sabotage from the Imperial side?

○ No-no, I wouldn’t say there was any cooperation. We are never picking sides. Our cargo was actually to be delivered to Omicrons. I just had to take some equipment details from Kansai, along with the substance and then haul it to a place in Omicrons.

● Right, I’ve seen your mission logs already. How about enemies? Do you, or your project managers have any? Any idea who would sabotage your project?

○ No, no enemies or saboteurs I’d know about.

● So far your words are matching with statements your manager gave me. Yes, I spoke to him first. Alright, tell us more about the attack itself.

○ We docked to the trade lane from Nago to Kyushu Gate, shortest way. We spotted few neutral contacts, with unknown signatures. According to ICQ-Code they were criminals. Additionally, they were using ships and equipment popular with highjackers. Well, we were ready to be taxed by pirates, no problem. We warned them about attacking Zoner ship might have consequences, like losing docking rights at Freeports. So… we tried into negotiating our free pass. But... In one moment I started to doubt they were just common robbers. They weren’t very fluent in our language. I’ve never heard such accent before. And rhymes... Did they try into a poetry? I can’t say… However, they told us we can’t keep the artifacts from our cargo. Ah, was that their problem - infected by Nomads? They could easily originate from that misterious Tau 117. I’m not an expert, ya know.

● Tau 117? Or maybe Drake? Are those two different systems?

○ I’ve no idea, honestly. So… After some talk, they strongly demanded our cargo. Ok, life is short enough already, so I decided to hand it to them all. Unfortunately, cargo bay failed to open. In that moment I recalled we had some trouble opening it for loading our cargo, but we had no time to check and solve such minor issues. Our attackers were waiting a minute more, before they started opening our ship with their guns. Large metal parts started to float around our ship, glowing red-hot in empty space. Thanks god I was close to ship’s evacuation pod.

● Mhmmm. I guess that’s how the rest of the crew died. They weren’t that close to escape pods like their captain.

○ B-but!... What could I do? It all happened so fast! I w-was..

● … scared as hell! From your medical file I see they hardly pulled you out from your four-man escape pod, my dear Mr. Polstari. Rosse, let’s leave this man with his troubles. There’s nothing more we could do here. And… you can turn that camera off now.

○ Welcome to the Myoko, Lara-san.

● I want to see your Commander, I don’t have time for Lieutenants. But, before that, you could explain why those men forced me out from my warm bed, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the weekend? And they brought me here, with little chance to even dress up? Am I arrested, or what?

○ Isn’t this room a bit too nice for a warship? It’s like sitting in some of Manhattan’s museums. Always loved how you Kusarians preserve your culture. So... lemme guess.. Is this all about a missing pilot of yours?

● Hai. It happened three days ago, as you know. I’ve sent two CSI groups to investigate sectors bordering the one where it happened, but we are still empty handed… We suspect attackers have crossed Liberty border at some point and there we have no jurisdiction. Personally... I’m not looking forward to cooperate with the LSF in this matter. How would I know if they weren’t sent from Liberty to provoke incidents? Our scout’s log reads that unaffiliated contacts were spotted, so he decided to check them up from closer. One of attackers had some sort of artifacts aboard and our scout backed up. Then you arrived there and... next thing is our pilot was missing. And no one but you can say what happened there. We would be really pleased if you tell us what happened after our scout intercepted the smugglers group?

○ They were not smugglers, Sir. They actually appeared recently from nowhere. So far they have been noticed dwelling around Bretonia and Liberty borders. A criminal group of fanatics, I’d say. We know they robbed some lawful and few freelancer transport ships. They robbed even some smugglers, as far as we know. That day I saw intriguing picture of three of them close to Deshima. I saw their odd signatures on my scanners and they were matching to those I memorised in Bretonia. They are probably getting criminal files in Bretonia and Liberty, as we speak.

● So... can you tell us any more details about that group? We’d file them all and send to Kusari Crime Database, together with deeper details the accident itself.

○ Okay... We have no clue who they really are and where did they come from. All we know they are new in highjacking business. There are no previous records about their crimes or any other activities. They are intercepting transports all around borderworlds, using civilian ships and weaponry. Their accent is specific. When you see one of them, be sure some more are not far. They are scouting solo, but team-work when on their prey. They probably use neutral bases as hideouts and to resupply and repair their gear. We don’t think they are popular between regular hijackers, because of their rather fanatic approach. I’m not really sure, but some reporter named them The Lumen group. Do they call themselves like that, or it was just the reporter? Who knows... Well, that’d be all I know so far... not much, really. I’m sure there’s much more to be revealed.

● There’s something happened in Taus some days ago. Kishiro corporate transport went missing after interaction with unknown group of freelancers. They tricked the captain to escort him for free through the dangerous parts and not long after that we lost connection with him, somewhere in Tau 29. Any knowledge about Lumen activities in Taus?

○ No, not really. But they might transit Taus on their way to Kusari, maybe via Bretonia, as I suspected. Personally, I never saw them before that incident with your scout. He was trying to contraband their cargo, no matter they didn’t look like they would hand it willingly. He tried to scare them a bit, in order to be more convincing. After some threats exchanged, they became nervous. They openly refused your scout’s demands. But, in the process, they were slowly approaching closer to Galileo anomaly. The one with strange cargo went in first. Rest of them remained on Shikoku side. Then your scout jumped and one of them followed him. The last one remained calm, but kept watching me. I still feel creeps crawling over all my skin, when I recall his gaze. He was trying to block my jump to Galileo, but yet I jumped after distracting him with short burst over his head. On the other side, your scout and criminals were leaving my radar’s range. I wanted to cruise, but was disrupted by third one criminal. That behaviour I didn’t like at all and we started dogfighting. How did it end? Well, I’m here, you see and he’s not. I know this sounds strange, but I have no idea where last criminal is. His ship exploded and there was no escape pods left after that. Some ammo and space debris were all I could read on my cargo scanner. Do they use escape pods at all? Do they wanna really end their lives shooting on enemy? Or... would they have access to some new technology, like cloaked pods? How could random criminal group get so advanced tech? But, they didn’t seem like ordinary robbers to me…
Welp... It’d be all I know. Night is still young and I’d like to leave now, Commander. And thanks for the tea.

● Achtung! Dast ist Muster Research Station, we got a few unknown contacts reading on our overspace locators, they are approaching Osnaburg orbit, suggest moving from the Hampshire side. The main scanners shows neutral, supposed Freelancers. Danger distance to the secret object. All Military patrol and security wings, do you copy?

○ Delta Seven patrol wing speaking.. We are currently in the combat actions along with Eta Nine and Delta three. The Bundschuh movement organized a bomber wing to the Dessau, we have to refuse the call Muster.

● Dast ist Battleship Braunschweig, 2te Versender Monika Rothschild, the patrol wing Eta Five just departed from the Battleship’s area to the conflict point, they are not in the action yet. Retransmitting the channel… Eta Five, das ist Battleship Braunschweig, we are canceling our previous order. The unknown neutral contacts approaching Secret Object Muster, require for the check. Lead them out from the Muster and after that, return to the previous order. Over.

● Dast ist Muster, the unidentified contacts have entered the Osnaburg orbit area for few minutes and are holding there. At the moment, their position has not changed. Scanners are reading another type of contact. It’s a beam or missile, moving right from the contacts to the Planet’s surface. Be careful maine harren, it might be Bundschuh provocation, hold your defensing systems online. Over.

○ Dast ist Holtzmann, Eta Five wing commander. The Freelancers are not posing much danger to the Muster, and as well they are not working with Bundschuh. They are here to explore something on the planet, we’ve intercepted and confiscated their drone. About to lead them out. Over

● Battleship Braunschweig, Eta Five again.. The Freelancers has pretty odd and obscure behavior. They are claiming that they has no idea who Kanzler is, and what is that. They are literally trying to insult our Laws. We’ve rechecked them in the general database and no results were catch up. Waiting for orders…

○ Understood Eta Five, lead them to the Braunschweig, if they refuse to comply, you are clear to engage by the order of arrest. They are in Rheinland! They must respect the government and Rheinwehr!

● Muster Research Station just reconnected to the channel. All contacts have gone from the locators, they have just vanish. Sending searching group to the last point of contact.

○ This is the searching squad - Eta One, we are approaching the waypoint. Still no contacts.. Wait, we’ve got a signal reading, supposed coming from the Planetary surface.

● We found them! This is Eta Two, we found several ships, they are reading no signals, scanning for the life-form… No results, seems like they are all dead along with our people.

○ Attention, Rheinland Military of the Bremen region, dast ist Kalina Rosenkranz of the Marinenachrichtendienst. We’ve got order from the Hauptsitz to withdraw the material which left after the unknown group. If you’ll notice the same affiliation ships trying to pass the order, intercept them immediately. ○ Good morning sir. The prisoner is already there. Some tournaments, ultimatums were done and now he’s ready to cooperate with you.

● Okay, let’s say I believe you. The freelancers, who are they? Where did they come from? How do they look, colors-names.. Origin.. Everything..

○ Their ships.. They were pretty odd.. Like dead. A flying wreck or something. The ships had some symbols, unknown to me. Never seen such before. Their manners, It was really disgustingly for my ears to hear them.. They are prolly even worst than a preacher’s speech manners. Their accent is also doesn’t sound nor Rheinlandic, nor Libertian nor Kusarian.. And they are definitely not from Bretonia. Can’t help with their origins.. All I know is they came from the Omegas. Now you can freely even kill me.. I told you all I know.

● I’m not a murder as you Jack, so I’ve to disappoint you.. But you will stay alive, and will spent some years at the prison. Will be actually your luck if you will get death as court decision, but I won’t give your kind such a prize. You and your people still stole my cash.. Currently they have been noticed within all four Houses, the Gallia part is unknown for us but since they also wander around the Tau sector, it might as well be possible that they are usual guests for the Gallics.

● Excuse me for the interrupt, but I’ve a question. Is that possible that they are hidden provocation project of the Gallic Intelligence Directory?

○ As for now, we’ve two other theories. But before coming to the theory, some facts. Exactly the fact about the body, which the LSF Agents managed to withdraw from the crashed Fighter on the planet Edmontom. Few autopsies and some experiments showed us that they had some percents of the Aruze gaz, which states that they were under the Nomad influence. But they are not infected, the autopsy and scanning of the brain shows that they were humans and had full own control. Here comes few theories: Since previously we’ve been working under interesting project, where the nomad incubus have left the host - infected human body, the fact states, that the human will return to the normal own life, but still some specifics might left - such as feeling of the Nomad presence, but it’s all about the organism specifics. There’re a lot of such situation with the Nomad leaving happens. The Nomads, themselves, were selecting their target for the infestation, the selection was accorded by the need of something. Such they are keeps on for present days. After they took the defeat at the Nomad war, lot of uncovered humans were useless for the Nomads, so Incubus might leave them. But there’s also a theory that before leaving they try to kill the host. As well, there’s lot of accident fixed after the Nomad War, when the incubus left the host - and those humans, were already unsocialized. About thirty percents of survivors actually suicided and fifty were seek of the Nomads, they were already addicted and the rest kept normal life. As well, the engineers have loaded up their Navigation maps, and they are much old. So if to admit that the Lumen are group of post-infection people, who did organize into one community long ago, and were living all that time separated from the world, they might have worked out their own subculture, ideology and such. The other theory is more phantasy, but has place to live, they are humans.. But not from here, they might be the alternative human life-extension after the Coalition-Alliance Sol War, maybe there was a sleepership we don’t know about, which is somewhere closer to the Sirius or..

● Professor. My apologies, but I’m not here for the fairy tales. I have few important to our Republic questions: are they somehow danger to the Government or our economy, possible sabotages, the alliance connections with the criminals - Hackers? Legion? Xeno Terrorists? Possible core system? Where do they park and such. How do they live at least? I really doubt that some percents of that gaz turned them into ultra-humans, they still need to eat, drink and sleep.

○ Alright, I’ve understood. Your version about Gallic spec-project as well has reasons to live. We did not found their starting point on the Navmaps of the dead criminal. But we’ve connected all the places they were visiting last week and much of the routes have been crossed somewhere between Nord Omicrons and the Top of Gallia. I will personally force the agents to work under this version and will report as soon as there will be the results. As for the economy, they are not fans of using Freeports, since they are much ignorant to the No Fire Zones and as well connections with any known criminal organization has not been found yet. They appeared pretty early, so they might lack allies for now. So they usually park on the Freelancer and dependent bases as we know. But there’s actually something else you should know, they are preparing something. They seek for special list of materials, they do not rob everything. That might be the answer for your question about the Government security.. I guess you should be careful for them, since we still don’t know what they are using such the materials for.

● Alright-alright. Well professor, you still have a lot of work I see. I’m pleased much for your lecture about fantastic science suggestions, but please prepare more useful information. The route to the Kodiak is much dangerous, so I will not spend my own time and won’t risk with myself and people getting here and listing such.
