ya... i was flying through bering, on autopilot

and i kinda flew into the sun... litarally, and i lived to tell this tale
so like... in bering... is that normal?

All the stars can be flown into if your ship is tough enough to survive the corona. With a fighter, not gonna happen. With a transport or bigger, certainly possible.

What were you flying? In a battleship you can take anything short of the Razgriz.

Spam-Prevention Edit: The question, blunt, is whether or not you can get OUT:lol:Interestingly, the Alaska sun doesn't have a death zone, and the asteroids actually proceed into it.

Some stars can be flown into with fighters, such as the Omega-41 star.

VERY severe radiation there though.

Omega 41's neutron star doesn't really have a corona, though, or does it? I haven't really had much of a chance or reason to try it lately...

I did some testing in singleplayer once, with the help of IFCE. I gave myself 10000+ bots and bats and flew an eagle from FP9 into the sun in Theta, madly pounding away at the g key the whole way. Bounced right off the star's surface then too.

Come to think of it, back to the original question, why would the autopilot fly you into the star at all? Normally, the only reason it would try is if you told it to go to the star. Even then, you start by circling the star for a little while before it drives you straight in. (Yes, I have done it before, while checking out a Vanilla glitch in Tau-37)

The omega 41 star does not have a corona, but has two rings of radiation. The center one can start damaging capships.

Can it really?
I regularly strafe it in my train, and only take one bar of damage

bering sun - Smiley_ - 09-29-2007

Yes, it can really, but onlyif you are stupid enough to sit in that radiation field for long enough.

Strangely though, running into the planet will only damage your shield and your weapons. Only the collision damage, which is rather pathetic, affects your hull.
