Independent Republic of Alberta [IRA] - Ata - 05-24-2010

[font=Palatino Linotype]The Beginnings
It was the year 814 when Caine Tarban, captain of the LSF cruiser Halifax, was betrayed by the Liberty corrupt government. He was ordered to report to Alaska to test a new weapon. That weapon was something of alien origins; something that mankind never saw; not even in the Nomad War from 801 A.S.

Captain Caine was assured that everything runs safely. The reality was different. His time in command of Halifax had to end. He accumulated too much information and they considered him to be a danger for Liberty. He accepted the mission but he sent most of the crew to the escape pods just before they started the tests. "Just in case something goes wrong. There's no reason to risk the whole crew" he said. With the crew in the escape pods, ready to launch, he began the test. Everything went fine till he fired with the weapon. A huge fire started on board of the Halifax and Caine ordered the launch of the escape pods. Soon after that, explosions started to shake the decks of the cruiser and Caine observed that those explosions had nothing to do with the fire since they appeared in the other side of the ship. He then decided to run a full scan for "foreign devices". He found explosives all over the lower decks and he found simple solution to deactivate them. He loaded an EMP bomb and fired it inside the Halifax. The electromagnetic blast deactivated all the electronic devices, including the primary ones. Now, the ship was drifting in Alaska. The last of his crew members died in the fire or survived and now they were his trusted comrades.

Five soldiers on a Cruiser in a system "patrolled" by aliens, Order agents, LSF and Liberty navy that wanted them dead. Lucky them, the first to find them were their friends. A repair ship commanded by Catalina Cruz and a full wing of LSF light fighters were on their way to repair an LSF installation but they found the Halifax. Catalina and Caine knew each other since they were students at West Point. After explaining what happened, they started to repair the cruiser. Catalina became the Caine's XO and the rogue LSF group was growing. One of the LSF fighters that was escorting the reapir ship decided not to be part of this but offered them five hours to leave the area before reporting the incident.

The Halifax managed to jump to Ellesmere and with the help of their anti-scanner devices they managed to jump to Oita. Then, in Illinois, they fooled the LPI officials and managed to run to Colorado and from there to Galileo. Searching for a place to hide, they found the Jumphole to Cassini and met the Rogues. They managed to make them to listen to their story and won a worthy friend. The rogues took them to Freeport 14, in Yukon and even offered help in fixing their ships.

[font=Palatino Linotype]How it came to life
Since then, Caine and his men stayed hidden on the Freeport but some recent events offered them the opportunity to take a stand against the Liberty Government. In 817 AS, a large strike took place on Red Deer Station. The LPI personnel was dissatisfied with working conditions and wages decrease. Caine offered them and alternative and almost half of the station, mostly the young LPI officers and other workers followed his advice. They became rogues and before the navy came to the station, they were gone. Reports about Caine started to appear and the LSF as on full alert. But something happened and they understood that their effort was in vain. Caine chose to address the nation and, his message was broadcasted all over the NeuralNet.
Quote:Libertonians! My brothers! It is time to make a stand. It's time live in a real democratic state. It is time for James Powell to resign. It is your time. People from Liberty! Help us fight against this corrupt government. Three years ago, I was working for them and I'm not proud of this. But they attempt to assassinate me and my crew helped me to open my eyes. It is time for you to know the truth. After the Nomad War, LSF started to work on a secret project, hoping to design weapons, using alien technology. Of course, you will say that those are all rumors and that you've heard them before. The problem is that they never managed to build those weapons and they sacrificed thousands of pilots and ships testing prototypes.

You ask yourself why they started to decrease your wages? It's quite simple. They need money for that project. So I ask you, people of Liberty. Stand up against the corruption! If you want this, together, we will win!
Those were the exact words of Caine Tarban. Soon after that, more strikes started to appear in the systems with low navy influence. Yukon, Alberta and even Ontario became animated by this message. The battleship Ottawa was attacked by Xenos almost every day. Workers from Hamilton base started to go to Freeport 14 and got recruited in what soon became a popular movement. Seeing what was happening in those systems, the Liberty Rogues decided to maintain their friendship and offered Caine docking rights on Fort McMurray. Now, Caine had a base, several fighters and the support of the masses. He decided to declare the independence of Alberta and its border systems, Yukon and Ontario. he named the newly formed state:

The [color=#FFFFFF]Independent Republic of Alberta

They soon started negotiations with the Lane Hackers and obtained docking rights on Cochrane Depot. Also, the rogues offered them ships and equipment. Catalina found some studies about Planet Edmonton. The planet could sustain life, even if it had rather harsh temperatures, bases could be built on the planet's surface. Hearing about this, Caine understood that IRA had a real future. He then looked to the economic side of this newly formed republic. The mining exploration on Huron was a very important source of income and he made that one of his major objectives.

[font=Palatino Linotype]Present days
Now, IRA is growing bigger day by day, fighting the Liberty Navy and the LSF and winning. It is expected that Caine will make an announcement regarding the declaration of independence.

//So, I reserved those two posts. You may post your feedback now but keep in mind: It's not ready yet. I still have to add... things.

Independent Republic of Alberta [IRA] - Thurgret - 05-24-2010

IRA? Really? You realise what anyone who has not seen this thread will assume that that tag means?

Anyways, have you contacted the people in charge of the factions mentioned? The Rogues aren't up for the sort of thing you have described, either in vanilla or Disco canon. The Hackers were in vanilla, I guess. You've also powergamed the 'fighting the Navy' and winning thing a bit there, too, aside from the diplomacy.

Independent Republic of Alberta [IRA] - Tomtomrawr - 05-24-2010

I do not see why the Libertonians needed to cripple - with the actual intention of destroying - one of their own cruisers to get rid of Caine Tarban. A much more cost effective way of assassinating the man would have been to get him while he was off the ship, perhaps taking some free time on a planet or a station. Or even getting a crew member to dispose of him quietly while he was on the ship.

That cruiser could have proven valuable on the Liberty-Rheinland front, the Liberty-Order front, or just in general house patrols. But why did they need to try to destroy it?

There are several other points as well that I could talk about, but I'd either like to hear your answer to my first or I probably wouldn't have time to ask the other questions (exams and all that).

Independent Republic of Alberta [IRA] - Zapp - 05-24-2010

OK. This... Probably... Isn't... Gonna... Work.

Sorry pal. You got beaten to the punch. Ontario had a huge RP a bit ago in trying to gain independence. Didn't work, ended in the LPI declaring martial law and shutting down the entire system pretty much. As it stands, we're still doing that RP. 95% of Ontarians support "Citizen Katz" as their leader, and in the recent elections wrote his name in on the ballots for governor. They wouldn't support some upstart ex-LSF on a powertrip.

And as for Alberta, I think the Rogues have taking Red Deer out on the agenda as operation Dead Deer.

Add to this that my immediate, in-RP reaction as Chief of Police is to roll the Leavenworth and two dozen SWAT divisions into Alberta and start laying the law down with mortars and SNACs... Let's say the Rogues would stop supporting you once they realized how much trouble you were bringing them.

I'll send you the RP on Ontario when I get home (on my phone atm), and if you have Skype I'll throw you in the Ontario planning chat, but I gotta say I don't see this working...

Firstly, well done on the structure of your post and the ease with which it can be read.

Now onto the rest.

Those are a few points in your story that either are too presumptuous or downright power-gaming. Either way, they will all need to be addressed somewhat. Namely the Rogues and Lane Hackers (Maybe ask them for their ships first, since they decide if you can have them or not) and the point about winning against the Navy.
You are 1 cruiser, 1 repair ship and a few fighters. How can that stand up against even a small sized Navy battlegroup?

Something very important too is the sudden appearance of this.
You can't go from the 23rd of June with no ships and no history and then expect an entire empire appearing at your feet on the 24th.

If you want I could write about how the LSF chased you down and obliterated you all in Ellesmere?
It would be just like what you have done here.

Roleplay each step.
Do the LSF cruiser thing in Alaska on the server.
Then the move to Alberta etc.
Then, working for a few months or more at it, get that magical 'support of the masses' somehow.
Without simply saying "I have this and that and that's it!".

You can't simply write down that you have all of this and expect to suddenly get it.
You need to work for it.

EDIT: Ninja's are everywhere.
Just to re-iterate, IRA is a very very poor choice of tag.

Independent Republic of Alberta [IRA] - McNeo - 05-24-2010

So, we've got Ontario...

Now apparently Alberta too...

Who knows, it might be Yukon next?

Minnesota?

While we're at it, New Hampshire?

Pennsylvania?

Or the old chestnut, Quebec? Why hasn't anyone tried that yet?

I think people tend to underestimate the lengths at which nations go to protect their territory, from both the inside and outside. A large country tolerating the unlawful breakaway of a chunk of its territory makes it look weak, and encourages more of the same. Ontario is enough, and is going to be an SAR anyway. Also, an interesting claim that you're "fighting the Navy and LSF and winning". I might as well be fighting the nomads on my own and winning. Im Trent, after all.

Goodness knows the other houses need some love at this point.

That you haven't talked to us means that currently, the plans for Ontario and its surrounding systems are not going to fit at all with your plan for Alberta. As for the plan to annex Alberta, if you ever tried, the LPI/LSF/Navy would be all over that system and completely crushing everything there. Small-time two-bit piracy is one thing, but the unlawful seccession of an entire system is another.

Expect the Maryland/Durango on your doorstep. Im sure the 90192380575783 other Liberty Capital ships can hold Texas for a few days.

I do however like the font and organisation of your initial post. I just don't like the content.

Quote:Or the old chestnut, Quebec? Why hasn't anyone tried it?

If anyone would listen to me once in a while, they'd know that the original draft of my actual OLF was a rip-off of the FLQ, a paramilitary group of the '60s who tried to get the indepence of Qu?bec through force. (Quebec Liberation Front)

As for that IRA thing... I just think that it's not possible. Ontario has already pushed the concept far, and we really don't need any more place trying to claim independence. At least, not the way you put it. Like, the part where you say that you are winning is powerplaying. You can't decide that by yourself.
