Pimpship Guide - Update - Work In Progress

This guide was created and completed by @Dino. Credits to @Mr.Fabulous for numerous edits and spelling/grammar check and to @Regulus and @Machelvanius for creating color table (in spoiler). Updated 2021.05.29 by @ronillon

Pimpship is a feature which allows you to change color of ship's lights. The feature can be accessed via stations that contain the word "Shipyard" in their name, as well as New Haven in Connecticut. In order to start, dock with the station, go to the Ship Dealer's menu and type:

/pimpship
Show available ship pimping commands.

The command will display all available pimpship commands and their description.

/showsetup
Display current ship setup: hardpoints, their IDs and lights mounted on them.

The command will display a list of light hardpoints available on your ship, as well as the color of lights currently used, which interestingly include the docking lights if present.

Result Example:
Current ship setup: 11
Hardpoint IDHardpoint name/numberItem name
01HpRunningLight03SlowLargeBlue
02HpRunningLight04SlowLargeBlue
03HpRunningLight07SlowLargeBlue
04HpRunningLight08SlowLargeBlue
05HpRunningLight05LargeWhiteSpecial
06HpRunningLight06LargeWhiteSpecial
07HpHeadlight01LargeWhiteSpecial
08HpDocklight01DockingLightRedSmall
09HpDocklight02DockingLightRedSmall
10HpRunningLight01SlowLargeRed
11HpRunningLight02SlowLargeRed
As an example was used: "Corvo" Civilian Zoner Deep Space Explorer

Docking lights turn on during docking sequence. But they can also be turned on/off manually.
(GAME MENU - OPTIONS - CONTROLS - MULTIPLAYER - LIGHTS ON/OFF)

/showitems [from]-[to]
Display items that may be added to your ship in range of [from]-[to] IDs.
Use /showitems without additional paramaters to display all items.

The command displays list of all available colors in chat, but due to limited amount of text lines in the chat and high number of colors & types of light available, the chat is unable to show all of the colors/types that exist at the same time.

You can display a range of the colors/types. Command example:
/showitems 1-126 (Chat history limitation is 127 lines.)

Alternatively you can use the item color code table in the spoiler below.

/setitem <hardpoint id> <item>
Change the item at <hardpoint id> to <item>.
<hardpoint id>s are shown by typing /showsetup.
<item>s are shown by typing /showitems.

The command will change specific color on specific hardpoint. The command is written with the respective hardpoint ID instead of the hardpoint name/number and the item color code.
<hardpoint id> = the specific point on the ship that holds the light
<item> = the light code you desire

Command example:
/setitem 01 01
for Normal White on hardpoint 01

Every usage will cost you 100.000 credits.

Changes are made instantly and you will see the results as soon as you undock.

/setitem [hpID1]-[hpID2] <item>
Change items at hardpoints in range of <hpID1>-<hpID2> to <item>.

The command also supports change of lights on multiple hardpoints at once.

Command example:
/setitem 01-03 133

/setitem [hp-begin]*<every-n>*[hp-end] <item>
Change every n hardpoint to <item>.
Changing begins from [hp-begin] if the parameter is given, otherwise begins from first hardpoint.
Changing ends at [hp-end] if the parameter is given, otherwise ends at last hardpoint.

The command supports even more complex lights change patterns.

How to identify light hardpoints

There are two ways of seeing which hardpoint appears on which place on the ship. The original way is more tedious and has higher chances of failure, while the second way uses a third-party software called HardCMP. Unless you want to have one color and size (or completely random), the distinction is extremely important.

First method is a simpler one. Assign each of the light hardpoint to different type and color of the light. Purchase the change and undock. Now that you're undocked and able to see the difference and which color/type has appeared on which slot, write down required changes and dock again. If you have assigned a large pink strobe to a hardpoint where you want to have small blue light, consult the 'Color codes' list again, see which slot is pink using /showsetup, and switch it for a blue one.

Second way is by using the third-party software called HardCMP (click the link to download). It's a bit more complex, but it saves you credits compared to trial and error method.

In order to use this way, you first need to open Discovery installation (right click Discovery Launcher > "Open file location" ). Then proceed with "DATA" > "SHIPS" and search for ship nickname (listed below). Once it's found, remember in which folder it was and open HardCMP.

In HardCMP, click on "File" > "Open..." and navigate to a folder which contains ship you've been looking for. Open it and its model will appear. If you see it as wireframe, click on "Solid Wireframe" in the bottom right corner.

The ship I used to generate the list of light hardpoints is Lich, and after I have navigated to "DATA > SHIPS > DISCOVERY > frozen>ROS_VHF.cmp" , I am able to see Lich's model and list of all of its hardpoints in the drop-down list on the right. Click on it and find the hardpoint you are looking for (with same name in-game). Choose it, and it will appear on the model and show exact location of it.

You can also use FLStat tool, Ships tab, Nickname column. to find out the nickname for ship you want.

You can set all hardpoints to 1 colour by doing - in the numbers. Eg

/setitem - 125

So you use "/setitem [hpID1]-[hpID2] <item>" but you omit the start and end ids?
