Server Request Timeouts - Asgardian - 08-06-2010

After getting new internet a couple of weeks ago (Its still Wireless, but its "nice" wireless), I've been experiencing a few problems with connecting to Freelancer servers.

Usually I can see the servers, but when I try to connect with them, the connection times out. This also happens when I try to ping the server in cmd prompt. Then, it randomly connects some time after I initially try.

Even more recently (Ie: Today and yesterday), I've simply not been able to even see some of the servers when I load up the server list. Again, the servers randomly appear/disappear...

Any ideas? I'll upload whatever network info you guys need. Eg: You need my PIN code, its 12345.;)

New internet connection, but not new PC ?

Unless your new ISP is using blocks of IP addresses that has been banned on the firewall level here (very few of those, so not likely), you should be able to see Discovery RP 24/7.
So I am more inclined to think it is something on your box. What is the OS you are running on ?

I'm running Windows 7 32 bit.

Thing is, it worked fine with the wireless internet I had before (A little USB dongle). We switched to something called "Vividwireless" which is a crapload faster and comes with its own all-in-one wireless router.

I'm wondering if its the router somehow blocking it?

IPv6 might be the interference here. Try disabling IPv6 so your box only uses IPv4.

If it is wireless check the signal strength. Freelancer uses, like most games, UDP transmissions rather then TCP ones, which means if the connection is flaky, a lot of packets get lost. Too much loss causes lag, jitteriness and unstable connections. This is why, as a general rule, most dedicated gamers do not use wireless.

Try using a network cable to see if the problem persists (most of those wireless routers still offer four fixed cable network ports). If it does, make sure ports 2300-2400 UDP outbound are allowed to connect to the internet if you are using some kind of firewall. For Freelancer connection requirements, see:
