Hey Doc - we haven't ever talked much, not for a long time. Wish this was just for a pleasure chat.

Anyway - as Freeport 1 Interim Administrator, a new friend of mine, Callie Rotch, let me know that were sorely lacking on medical facilities. Half of which got removed for a casino *sigh*

Well, thats going bye bye.

I've got, like, four thousand units of Pharmaceuticals coming to stock our Med Facilities. As well, they're also being restored back to the old specs, as in, not housing video-poker machines.

Would really mean a lot to me, and our citizens, if we could persuade you to have a genuine, patented, Doc Medbay on our Freeport.

Let me know, and if not, take care man. Maybe we'll be able to have a friendly chat when the world isn't so crazy.

Dane out.

Kallisti, Mr. Summers,

I do apologize for the delay. Storms have recently ravaged over Gran Canaria, the first of which knocked out my communications which were only put back online yesterday. Asides some damage to my estate and Midori getting a mild concussion after getting hit on the head by flying debris, we've gotten through it OK. She will be fine.

As to your request, I make no bones about my dislike of Freeport 1, not because of the base itself but because of the posturing so many people do around it. Bretonia, the Corsairs, Red Hessians and reports of a pirate group known as Fury claim to make it home. I also loath the fact that prior to your arrival and even prior to Dakun, a previous administrator gave in to Bretonian demands to allow the crown to have say in it's operation. I didn't sign that agreement, I don't honor it nor do I recognize claims of the Omega 3 system. As a result, Freeport 1 is the one base that I avoid and have instructed my own people to avoid. I also find it foolish that due to Bretonian restrictions that Zoners have to ask permission to fly a destroyer to the base.

There is soemthing else I want you to think about.

Uploads a file of 800 names and pictures

These are 800 people, mostly women and children, who were murdered in a Freeport 1 and Freeport 9 attack some time ago. I keep it as a reminder. They were slaughtered because on group didn't like the politics of the administration that signed over rights to Bretonia. One of those was one of my own medical professionals. She left behind a husband and two children, her children barely surviving themselves.

I'm still undecided about your request between past losses and current political situation there. I have forwarded this message to the commander of Med.Force.Two, Commander Sarah Coyle. I will discuss this matter with her and leave it up to her if she wants to bring a medical team to the base. She commands a Corvo cruiser which is NOT, I repeat NOT a combat vessel. Ultimately, it'll be her decision as to whether she comes out or not.

We will get back to you.
Dr. John Henry Holliday

*deep breath*
I've been going over these files you sent. A few people have told me of some of the history that this place has had to deal with in the past. I wont lie, it's a lot of the reason I'm staying here. And no, that reason is not because I'm crazy.

*long exhale* I don't know how much you know about me - I'm so totally the wrong man for this job. I haven't bathed in a week, and before this crisis started, the only care I had was whether I needed to go dirt-down on Manhattan for new guitar strings. Ever since we talked in my last big message to space, where I cut ties with everything holding me back, and became this space drifter, I've had no care, no responsibility. I go from place to place, meet new and interesting people, try and woo pretty girls, play my guitar and sing songs.

When I came here to try and salvage something out of this awful mess, I dunno what I was thinking really...I guess it was just a sense of...this is too interesting to not get involved in...

Then I came here. this place was in a shambles. It's people were scared. Many of them still remembered the violence only a short time in the past, and thought this was when the other shoe would drop. Some people had just given up. With Patriarch gone, a lot of folks here thought they had lost the only person who ever cared about them.

For my conscience, in the choices I've made in my life, I felt like I had to do something.

So, I've maybe slept an hour or so in the last four days. I've been supervising the rebuilding. Balancing the politics as finely as I can. People are looking up to me now.

I'm terrible for this Job, but I have one thing that I think matters the most. I care. I'm gonna break my back for these people, because very few have in the past. The pictures of the people who have died are just further motivation. We can't quit just because its hard. Otherwise 800 is just the start.
Too many have lost, too many have given up. In the end, what these people deserve is to be able to live their lives in peace. That's my motivation.

I hope, in being truthful, your not still convinced I'm a crazy person, or a power mad idiot.

I hope Sarah Coyle agree's. And I understand why you have to keep your distance Doc - this place is really...well...unique. But I've rushed in to rescue it. Maybe others follow my example. Heh, like the motto of Med Force One - building hope where little exists.

I'm building as much as I can.

let me know what Sarah decides.

It's good talking with you Doc - I'm sorry about the storm on Canaria - I hope everyone is ok. Give them my best wishes, and luck.

Dane out.

I normally don't do this but at some point, I'm going to visit you with my shuttle at Freeport 1. Why? You say you aren't the right man for the job there. Considering the political climate and the clientel there, no one is. It's a VERY hostile place as you are finding out.

Back when I was chairman of the old Council of Zoners, Freeport 1 was always a hotspot. The Bretonians wanted more control of it, the Corsairs threatened us if we allowed it, the Hessians and the SCRA felt that allowing the Corsairs to dock there was collaboration and "harboring the enemy." These claims never end nor will they ever. While I don't miss it, men like you and I take such work for the reason you mentioned, because we care. My caring is why I created Med.Force.One and Two. They go where others won't, treat those that can't get help anywhere else.

Commander Coyle has decided that she will fly out to you to render assistance. I even had a few volunteers medical people agree to stay at Freeport 1 for awhile to staff the medical station there. She is securing the permits to fly into Bretonian space. Once there, she will notify you.
Just so that you know, she has been ordered to render medical aid only. Her ship is not one of combat and she is not a diplomat. If things get ugly there, she will make way for Cambridge until things settle down. I will not see her caught up in politics there. If situation allows, treat her right. She loves coffee and at the end of shift will often enjoy a decaffeinated cup with a mild liquor in it.

Mr. Summers, I do hope this helps.

Yours in Eris,
Dr. John Henry Holliday

I met Sarah as she came in, and we talked a bit.
I like her. I'm....well....this is kinda the first time that I don't really have the words. I don't think i can really explain how happy and relived that I am. I don't think you could ever know hot grateful I am. I just don't know how to say it.

This last week, I've been feeling like I'm in a sinkin' ship, bailing out buckets of water. This feels like I've sighted a friendly port, and everything is gonna be alright soon. Truth is, its not - not by a long shot. But the boat is moving, and safe harbor is out there - and I know were going in the right direction.

I've also been doing lots of reading, so as not to be ignorant of this situation. I know that Freeport 1 sits astride, or is buried beneath, a sea of rough politics. From bretonia, to rheinland, to corsairs, hessians, coalition even. It's a crossroads of so many competing interests, and everyone is makin' their devils' deals.

So am I, really. I cant not. I've got a station full of people who need my protection, conscience, and what little virtues I have, in order to make sure I don't tick off one group or another and get everyone killed.

Ah, well. I've been making a lot of speeches lately. At the end of the day, what I said was right - I'm the wrong man for this job, because I'm a kid, whose never had any responsibility in his life. Ran away from rich mommy and daddy, and only ever wanted peace and freedom. But there is more to me then that, and that's why I'm the perfect man for this job. The perfect man is the one who cares the most. And I think I do.

If you do end up stopping by Doc, I'd love to sit and talk. Even about the unimportant things.

Let me know.

Safe travels out there man,

Dane out.

Mr. Summers,

I'm glad that we had a chance to chat a bit upon my arrival to Freeport 1. Since then, we have off loaded a good deal of medical supplies, equipment, food stuffs, water and oxygen. After a meeting with the staff here, you will have a four man medical team staying with you. Due to the recent hostilities in the area, they are also accomplished hand-to-hand fighters and will have side arms as well. Let's hope they won't need them. They know what their mission is, to provide medical to those living on and visiting the Freeport. Once established, my mission will be done here. Supplies will later be flown to the base as requested by the staff. You need not worry about them, TAZ will supply them.

Now, since I'm here for an overnight anyway, let's get your mind off of things a bit. Dinner tonight?

Sarah
