[color=#006600]"Dusk" (Part I)

In less than an hour, Islay will end it's day...

Damien McEwan stands with his arms crossed, & a scowl worn as he looks past a large window that covers the majority of the south wall of his office....& peers down into Hell.

Thousands of large celing fans blow a warm breeze through the corridors & alleyways, that does nothing to circulate the hot, thick haze that hangs in the air.

From his elevated vantage point, he looks down the main thoroughfare as the patrons mill back & forth, & the employees go about their business prepairing for nightfall.

He tries to catch a glimpse of the opposite wall beyond the humid haze of heat, & simply fails.

The Green Hell is a big place...& for the sixth day in a row, he stands above it all, & feels very small...

"Dusk" (Part II)

As Damien casually walks down the main thuroughfare, his eyes dart about, taking in all the information they can see.

At the moment, they see a huge fountian in the center of the park that the road leads to.

His boots click on the cobblestones until they meet the grass, & Dimi kneels to sit at the base of a tree that grows up to, & past the gigantic cavern roof, between large exaust fans that circulate the air with enough force to deprive the tree of a canopy, a little over 30 meters above.

From the fountian in the parks center, the cobblestone walkways spoke out in every direction, each one twisting & curving, until they dead-end into the cave wall, 450 meters away, give or take.

The walls rise to the roof as a functionaly beautiful mixtue of man & nature, the grey stone peppered everywhere with steel, steam, &...life.

The Green Hell is evolving an ecosystem.

...& has been, since long before it's grand opening.

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-06-2008

"Dusk" (Part III)

The Green Hell is many things. Primarily though, it's just a bar.

Much in the same way that it's just a small town, otherwise ignored, on Level 66 of Islay Station: Edinburgh, Bretonia.

Level 66 is a bit of a misnomer...In a coup of brilliance involving embezzling large sums of money away from the Green Front throughout his carreer, Caulobacter Phage bought the entire level, over 25 years ago.

There are six seperate sections, & six floors...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey Dimi!...come check this out!..."

The young boy responds to his guardian's call, & climbs over a gigantic pile of freshly blasted rubble, & into an empty, newly-created chamber.

He slowly walks in, scanning his eyes back & forth...his jaw dropped in complete awe of the sheer size of the place.

For the first time, the young Damien McEwan stands in the center of the new cave, looking up.

Caul flashes a smile & shakes his head behind the back of the boy, & shouts out to him:

"& this is only one of six!"

He stands below it all, & feels very small.

"Dusk" (Part IV)

Damien stands & brushes himself off. He wipes the sweat from his brow & leaves Murphy Park...headed west on Rue Mal-heur, towards Dreygon St.

He looks at the shadows cast by the daylights & realizes he needs to hurry...It will be dark soon, & he left his coat at home...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Well, at least the rent is cheap!" said Caul to a circle of friends, as they all take a break from building a wall that will one day be a part of the tallest structure on 66.

"Before you know it, this area here will house my office." He said, as he reaches into a cooler & passes out Gaian spring water; packaged in bottles made of sand.

Nothing is ever wasted by a Gaian, & they can, more often than not, find use for something wasted by others. It shows in Gaian arcitecture, & It shows in their cuisine but, to the teenaged Damien, nothing beats the bottles.

Most bottles of Gaian manufacture are made of sand or clay. The pocess of heating the base materials creates a gas emission that is collected & pressed into a very durable, & easily degradable film that provides strength to the container, & protection to it's contents.

before the clay & sand bottles are filled, the pressed gas film is melted onto the surface, & imediately cooled...resulting in a very tough, very reliable container.

As the friends & workers finish their water, Damien gets up & collects the bottles after receiving an almost imperceptable nod from Phage. He grabs a bucket & collects the bottles & walks down the cavern hill to the fire-pit.

one by one, he touches the tops of the bottles to the flames, & the pressed film snaps apart just enough to rip them off, he then wads them up with a crinkle, & tosses 'em in the fire. The heat melts the film back into the gas it's made from, & he tosses the bottles as far as he can throw...making them disintegrate back into their original sandy form on impact.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Damien turns right on Dreygon & begins to walk uphill past Laowai Alley. Towards the green highlands of Hell...towards Erinloch...

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-07-2008

"Dusk" (Part V)

...The daylights will sink into their casings, & the moonlights will rise...

Level 66 exists in a climate all it's own...situated ontop of Islays' generator level, it endures a massive & constant wave of radiating heat during the day.

coupled with the copious & hearty plantlife scattered throughout the Green Hell complex, Level 66 is not unlike a hot & sticky jungle.

Before Level 66 was a level, it was simply a buffer zone of rock insulating the residents of Upper Islay from the generated heat in the lowest & uninhabitable section of the station...but unused real estate tends to be the best, according to Caul Phage, & Level 66 resulted from years of mining, & shady bribes.

Each of it's six massive caverns boasts something unique.

The central chamber houses the vast majority of the Green Hell's business. Bars, brothels, stores, schools, restaraunts, everything a human could need or want...& all within walking distance.

Looking to the west, you can see the wide & gigantic opening that enters into Erinloch...a cavern equal in size to the central chamber, but much less populated.

To the east are the Downs...A valley cavern. The south cavern is for employee housing, the one in the north is best descibed as a botanical laboratory, & the lower chamber houses the Ampitheatre of Blights.

The difference in elevation between the highlands & the lowlands is not very much...the 6 chambers are almost identical in size & shape, so the celing remains constant, but the landscaping changes a few things.

In the central chamber, Colin Tower rises almost to the roof...close to the equivelent of a 10-story building. over to the left in the Erinloch highlands, the tallest structure doesn't exceed 3 stories, ...& so on.

Along with it's climate, The Green Hell also experiences the cycle of day & night.

Throughout the entire complex, the lighting system is programed to mimic the sunlight shining on Gaia from it's twin suns. They slowly move across the cavernous 'sky' & give the Gaians the closest aproximation of the outdoors that they know how to muster.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Damien enters the Erinloch cavern, & walks down the street to his humble & newly aquired lakeside home, to grab his duster before the fog rolls in.

"Dusk" (Part VI)

...Soon, it will be night, and that radiates it's own power:
'Cause Islay will end it's day...now, in less than an hour.

Dimi catches a reflection of himself as he passes a bathroom mirror.

He pauses & leans over the sink, while gingerly scratching the corner of his eye. They've slowly been clearing up...the whites of his eyes still an unnatural shade of red, but clearing.

...At least the brusies on his throat are almost gone.

Two weeks ago, Damien was choked to death...in the moment before he blacked out, the same pressure that blocked his air, & burst the vessels in his eyes, made something pop in his mind.

He died as a flood of locked memories washed over him, & swept away a constantly tenacious headache.

For reasons he dosn't understand, he just didn't stay dead.

Less than a minute later, like a growlng & rabid dog, he savagely turned on his master, & beat Caulobacter Phage to his death.

He pushes those memories to the back of his head until they become a painful ring echoing in his mind.

heading for the door, he zig-zags past a maze of moving boxes while throwing on his coat, and the generators of Islay Station switch to 'standby', causing a subtle rumble to stop with the very audible sound of nothing.

He locks up & begins to walk to work as night falls, & the moonlights bathe the beergarden complex in a different shade of green.

...Hours pass as the clock strikes midnight with an unnoticed click.

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-07-2008

"Midnight" (Part I)

Dimi spends the first five minutes of his lunch break walking back to his neighborhood. He passes the front door of his place, & continues walking to the end of the street.

The fog, long settled into a fairly thick layer covering the ground, spans the whole of the complex. The buildings to his left, all compacted together, are home to both living quarters & businesses. The dark stones used in it's construction imported from Dublin, & built without the need for morter.

To his right, is the loch: the Green Hell's source of drinking water.

Erinloch is a new name for this particular cavern. Until a year & a half ago, it was simply known as 'The Highlands' but, out of a longtime respect for a former resident in this section of Hell, the residents voted to rename the place to 'Erinloch' in honor of his deceaced wife, Erin.

Mackenzie St. ends at Dimi's favorite pub, & he walks inside, to keep a promised appointment with Uncle Quitcherbitchen.

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-09-2008

"Midnight" (Part II)

He enters the doors, & everyone in the pub looks up to see who enters, & immediately return to their own business.

Dimi walks up to a gigantic tree root that's hollowed out in specific places that allows it to double as the pubs bar...

The man behind the bar cracks a smile as he approaches, & pours the proper amount of the proper Gaian tequilla into the proper glass.

"Heya Joey...how's the life?" asked Damien, as he downs the shot no sooner than the moment it was placed in front of him.

"Been alright I guess...How're you holding up kiddo?"

"To be honest, I don't know if I am. I feel...kinda, numb."

"Well, you know what they say:" replies Joey, ..."That which dosn't kill you..."

Dimi rolls his eyes at hearing a slogan the bartender has repeated...over, & over again for as long as he can remember. He smiles respectfully & finishes the slogan with him, as they say in unison:

"...& if it does, then your dead, & have no more problems."

Somebody else enters the pub, & everyone looks up to see who enters, & immediately return to their own business.

"Cold out there tonight." says the stranger in a friendly tone, as he approaches the bar & takes a seat.

Joey Romack pauses his & Dimi's conversation & looks at the tourist with complete contempt.

Damien quietly laughs to himself & sips his beer with a shake of his head.

'...wait for it...'
'...wait for it...' he thinks to himself humorously...

"Oi!!" yells Joey to the stranger at the top of his lungs, forcing the other customers around the pub to a suprised start.

(& there it is)

"Quit Yer Bit**in' ya little scrape! It's cold EVERY night! Now,...drink or be gone!" he says, while pointing to a sign that very clearly reads (among other things) 'No Bit**ing'

Joey pours a pint & takes the tourist's money with a sneer & sends him off to a table were the strangers friends have been waiting.

Welcome to Trees Lounge...

..."I'm glad you popped in boy, I got ya something..." the barkeep says as if a beat was never missed, & reaches under the counter to grab a coffee mug & slaps it on the surface.

Damien takes it in his hands & reads the printing on it with a smile:

'Mayor of Crazytown'

"What is this?" Dimi asks him with mock confusion.

"It's a coffee mug...ya know, coffee?...it's the stuff you put in your tequilla in the morning fer flavor, ya git!"

"Is that what that is? Yeah, call that crap coffee if you want..." Dimi replies with a wink.

Joey, with a severe look of anger, says nothing & again points to the sign, as those within earshot let out a series of chuckles.

"By the way kid," Joey moves on, "...what happened to your accent?"

"What accent?"

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-09-2008

"Midnight" (Part III)

Dimi follows the small brook that flows downhill from the Erinloch cavern, & into Dis.

Accually, the tourist was right... he thinks to himself as the temerature drops further & the walls begin to re-freeze for the night.

He dips his neck & sqares his shoulders against the cold as he gets closer to Colin Tower. As his boots continue to again click on the cobblestones, he looks up to see the building. An impressive creation to say the least. Thanks in equal parts to the finest Dublin rubble, & some not-too-shabby Gaian masonry, the tower at first glance, appears to have grown out of the walls of Islay itself.

He enters Colin tower to the far end of the lobby, & climbs the stairs to the tenth floor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Damien enters his office that overlooks the Green Hell from a very large panoramic window on the out-facing wall.

He goes straight to the kitchen area & fills his new mug with a fresh cuppa joe, then plopping heavily behind his desk & propping up his boots.

Dimi takes a moment to relax. So far, it's been another long night & he is really not looking forward to dawn.
He sips his coffee, & allows himself another chuckle...'Mayor of Crazytown huh?'

Steeling his nerves, he shuts his eyes & activates his neural net.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dimi McEwan does, has, & always will hate his neural net.

To this Gaian, simply having it is beyond insulting. He's had it for twenty of his thirty-five years, but out of a combination of stubborness, & mild tissue rejection, has never truly learned to use it to it's full capacity.

Twenty years ago, Dimi stole Caulobacter Phage's VHF, & slipped into Leeds for a midnight joyride.

Long story short: he was arrested by the authorities for simply being Gaian. It was argued at the time that the reason for arrest was the hundreds of pounds of synthetic marijuana meant for distribution on the planet...

The day he was convicted to life, the Bretonian supreme court had yet to present anything more than circumstantial evidence.

He was immediately proccessed, & sent kicking & screaming to the nueral install clinic before his transfer to prison.

Two weeks later, sitting in his cage & plotting a way to escape, he hears a sickening 'squish' just outside his cell door.

Phage & two other Gaians rush the freshly killed guard into the cell with him.

Both suprised & 'not at all' at the same time, he flashes a quiet smile as Phage tosses him a gun.

"If these Teabags can throw you in a cage like an adult," he proudly begins to whisper, 'then you can fight your way out of it like one!"

Dimi, filled with given pride, felt invincible. "Wait!" he loudly whispers as the four Gaians begin to exit the cell & prepare to blast Damien out of Jail.

He lunges forward & snatches a large bowie knife sheathed on Caul's hip, & quickly uses it to seperate a hand from the dead guards' wrist.

"We don't have time for this!!" Caul quietly & impatiently barks.

"There's ALWAYS time for a last word!" he quickly barks back, & Phage can do nothing but roll his eyes & wait, as Damien takes the severed hand & arranges the five fingers into one vulgar expression & gently places it on the pillow of his cot.

Exiting the cage & grouping up with the four other Gaians standing watch outside the cell, Caul looks Damien in the eye & says:

"If we live through this, when we get home... your grounded!"

"I'll live with it"

"We'll see..."

At fifteen, with the help of seven other Gaians, Dimi recieved his very first Royal warrant by busting out of prison like a force of Nature.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Checkerboard,' Damien sent through his neural net, 'want a job tonight?'

'Sure' came the reply.

'Locate Yersinia Pestis, & bring her to me'

'Yeah, ok, why?'

'You beat me in that race we had a few weeks ago, & I need someone quicker than me to go get her.'

'...Oh!' Dimi continued, 'take about eight guys with ya...she's gonna put up a fight.'

'.........UNDERSTOOD.' came the next reply after a thoughtful pause.

'I've uploaded a waypoint to your navmap...You have untill dawn.'

The Green Hell Beergarden - Marburg - 03-09-2008

"Midnight" (Part IV)

Just a couple of blocks from Colin Tower, a fight comes crashing from inside the doors of 'The Fellow Hoodlum'...

Damien, returning from speaking to the lanlord of one of the employee housing blocks, hears the scuffle & the shouts & runs up the street in a dart, as a throng of people form a curious circle around two combatants.

The fighters end their scuffle as one brawler pulls a gun, takes his aim, & murders the unarmed other.

The shocked onlookers can only take a moment to stare, as blood flows downhill into the gutter, flowing from a headwound resting at the feet of (as of this very moment) a condemned killer.

A fair number of onlookers submit to an instant rage, & rush the bloody victor.

As four former spectators hold the guilty party down, two others take the liberty of breaking his nose, eye-socket, etcetera, untill Damien comes crashing into the spectator circle at full gallop, making a hole.

"STOP!!" he snarles, while violently ripping the two agrressors off the man.

Damien stands between the doomed, & the angry mob, and paces back & forth furiously panting for breath in an extremely horace rasp.

"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!" he screams at them in rage.

"YOU ALL KNOW BETTER THAN THIS!!"

His words crash into the group of onlookers with a sound so low on the register, that it disapates a portion of the crowd as they decide to walk away & return to their own affairs.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A couple of minutes later, after Beergarden security arrived, & a large number of statements have been made, Damien again continues to pace back & forth. Calmly this time, but still pacing nonetheless. He addresses the six men who originally leapt onto the guilty party, & is beside himself with disapointment.

Glaring at each & every one of them in turn, he turns on his heels & walks a few feet away to grab the murderer by the scruff of his coat, as he's being attended by a medic.

He forcefully leads him back to where the other six men are standing, & pushes the bloodied man to the ground.

'S**t, I hope I know what I'm doing...' Dimi thinks to himself as he orders:

"ON YOUR FEET LITTLE MAN!"

He reaches down & again grabs the scruff of the guy's coat, & roughly helps him to his feet...& Dimi stares venom at the nervous man with his blood filled eyes.

"You ever been here before?" he angrily barks.
'.......'
"ANSWER ME!"
'yes!!' he replies...his nevousness quickly being replaced by fear.

"Then you know the rule don'tcha?"
'.....'
"SAY IT!"

'Don't be a fool, follow the Golden Rule!!' the murderer patheticaly repiles, turning away from McEwan's gaze, & liberally begining to sob & wet himself.

"...Yes."

"There are multiple people, including myself, who witnessed this whole thing tonight..." Dimi continues...

"Bottom line: In the heat of the moment, you took the time to pull out your gun, took more than a second to aim, & killed an unarmed man in cold blood..."

"Around here, we consider that pre-meditated murder."

Without hesitation, or a second thought, McEwan draws his own gun & murders the murderer, as a wave of blood & gray matter spatters onto the onlooking six.

Resuming his back & forth pace, Dimi breathes through his nose & returns to glaring at the group of men, each in their turn, allowing fear & the gravity of the moment crush them with the subtlety of a tzunami.

"As fer you lot..." he addresses, "Four of you held the guy down. Normally, that would warrant a free drink...but after these other two stepped over the line & started beatin' on him...y'all CONTINUED to hold him down."

"The way I see it, all you guys need to learn a lesson or two"

Damien walks over to one of the security guards standing off to one side & shares a few words.

After a couple of moments, along with a number of agreeable nods & mumbles from both sides, the security guard turns away & approaces the group of six & places them under arrest.

With the signal given, the surrounding guards swoop in to take custody of them all.

"You all are hereby sentenced to 24-hours of payback. The six of you will recieve four beatings each, in the same manner that you are guilty of yourselves." the head security officer officially states to them unapologetically.

The men are escorted down the road towards the Downs valley, & into the gates of Arena 66.
