Oddly enough this idea came to me after reading Jax's reply to the Tinker faction thread, mainly the lack of Hogosha and the seeming free reign of Junkers, deprived as they are of natural enemies. Enter the Yakuza.
Easliy the most notable of Japanese criminal organizations, the Yakuza range from semi-legitimate businessmen to common street thugs with different "clans" focusing on a variety of activities, some outlaw drug trafficking completely whilst another may rely heavily upon it, some run casinos or businesses or engage in human trafficking. In Disco this could translate into any number of RP roles with some new opportunities to make Kusari interesting.
The Yakuza could push Nox as the main drug of Kusari, that ties in the Gallic connections and gives a fresh take on the drug war with the GC and Outcasts, perhaps becoming the suppliers of the drug to Liberty and giving the Junkers a true opponent in smuggling. This is all just off the top of my head but it could have potential, thoughts?
Oddly enough, you just described the full range of Hogosha activity. There were already some Hogosha groups explicitly called Yakuza.
The problem isn't about changing anything in the Hogosha right now (they have become able to pursue those roles more effectively in recent time), the problem is in making (or inviting) people to pick up Hogosha and Do what they're supposed to be.
I had no idea, the Hogs always seemed more on the lawful side of quasi-lawful when I've seen them, an admitted rarity since I seldom travel Kusari way sans the occasional Liner trip. Once OSC| is settled and running I'll look into the Hogosha, feel free to drop me a line on skype some time (details are on my profile), I'm not much of a fighter but I do love me some smuggling.
