The placement had to be somewhere where the thing, once picked up, had a ways to go both to Liberty -AND- New Paris.
That and I was very much concerned that GRN would blockade people from getting into Gallia, if that was the case, and just took the gem on their turf and returned it without a snag.
No worries, experience gained, will make the correct adjustments for the next event tomorrow/after tomorrow.

Yes, but ideally the gem would/could have been dragged past an ongoing furball to a point where it would need to be returned past enemy forces. As it stands, the 'safe zone' was about ~10k away from the one fight that was ongoing, as there was never any incentive for people to push deeper into Gallia than Tau-23 itself.
The event would have been a lot tenser if the gem had made it out of Gallia and into the well-populated systems. Imagine the ship in California, trying to get into NY. The closer to the selling point, the more people would have taken part, would have tried to get their hands on it. A lot more factions can interact there, more than CR and GRN as it was today.
That would have been pretty cool madness, a lot nicer than a furball that 1 gunship could easily break up and then a 5 minutes empty flight back home.
The event type is cool, didn't manage to rise to its potential this time though.
The tension was really high when we (GRN) realized we were trying to down someone who suddenly didn't have the jewel anymore.
A shame the jewel didn't get further, I feel kind of awful for letting it end that fast by dropping it off. Was kind of afraid that this would happen.
And yeah, I'll echo the statement that the jewel should've been further in Gallia somewhere. Gallia has a -lot- of exits and you could go the long way around if one side was barricaded.
I give the event a perfect 5/7. Not getting a lot of chance to PvP I take every opportunity I get. So far superjunker only got his bum super kicked by Lea. Good job on that. My Collector never stood a chance. I have to rethunk my choice of ship and it's layout, but you can bet on seeing me around next time...or not seeing me at all, if I'm good enough...
Editing to congratulate GRN on getting their diamond back. Flew all the way to Dauphene to personally congratulate GRN Amber as well.
