Unfortunately, it's not decorative, it's the point. It's more valuable than any other bit of kit on the SRP and isn't about 'snowflake status', it's about trying to give others an interesting experience, something to explore, some 'Discovery' to Discovery. I'd happily fly a starflea and just keep the IFF.
Again, not my fault 'Unknown' means 'Wilde' (when everyone and their mother knows who the Wilde are).
That's contradicting, though. You want that IFF so bad while you are more than aware of what it usually indicates and even already had the situation where it caused negative surprises. It's sad to see the stubbornness behind that. Yes, it's not your fault that Unknown means Wild. It's your fault to abuse that, though.
or people just don't know how to roleplay, if you see an "Unknown" then it means unknown, same to undercover Wild ships, if they do not have Nomad equipment on them, then they're practically human for all you know.
The issue is less about the IFF but what comes with the IFF, guys. It shouldn't be green to nomads and wild when it shoots nomads and wild. It shouldn't be green to nomad/wild NPCs either when it shoots nomads and wild. It shouldn't join nomad/wild battlegroups when it shoots nomads/wild. That happened yesterday, and it shouldn't happen again. When it appears green to nomad indies or other people who don't know that SRP and it's stance to the nomads/wild, the players don't know why to treat it as friend while the nomad mindshares KNOW it shot nomads/wild.
I don't get why people have trouble understanding it. It shouldn't be green to nomads/wild. That's the issue.
I interacted with your character today in Manhattan. I could not make heads or tails over it....was it an AI, is it human, is it a Nomad infected A.I.? I could not tell, so I just left that to the side as much as possible.
One thing though and something you should already know. Conn is the place for people to do the "Friendly" pew pew thing. A cop rolling up and seeing a Freelancer getting shot at by an "Unknown" IFFed player in front of Manhattan, would normally just throw out the two required lines of RP and shoot you down.
This isn't feedback on your character but more feedback on your writing. I've read some of your material and i'll say this much, you're certainly a gifted writer. It's rare to find a story that will capture my attention long enough to read past the introduction. You're not being predictable with your themes which is good. Though i've noticed for a few of your stories there's alot of digression: a lot of routine chatter for character building and context, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But the plot doesn't really go anywhere during this time which left me wondering what's the point to it all. This may have been the effect you were after, but if after 500 words i haven't got a feeling of momentum in the storyline then i lose interest. Mystery is good, but keep it to about one or two of things if you're introducing it it early on, You can develop more later. I'm looking forward to what you'll write next, so don't be disheartened by anything anyone may say. People can be harsh, cruel and spiteful to make themselves feel better. After all, this is the internet.

Thanks man. This is substantiative feedback.
It's mostly the limits of posting and immersion. There's a certain formula of checkboxes that need to be filled with Discovery which doesn't fit within having total control over the media - you have to substantiate your take on the universe before you can do slice-o'-life. Once I get to the latter, I like to stick there.
