1. Went to Acers website and got the latest BIOS and chipset update, and did a fresh install with the latest Intel HD and Nvidia drivers (285.90) from there. Didn't do anything.
2. Fresh install of the 296.10 Verde driver. Didn't do anything.
3. Updated to the latest beta (304.79) from Nvidia's site. Didn't do anything.
4. Removed Nvidia and Intel HD drivers completely, disabled Optimus/Nvidia in the BIOS and let Windows detect and install drivers for the Intel HD. Updated those to the newest drivers available from Intel. Then did a fresh install of the latest Nvidia Beta (304.79). Didn't do anything.
Interestingly when I go to sites like "Can you run it" or Intel Driver Update Utility website, both recognize my Nvidia Card - I don't know how they work, but perhaps they just take a peek in the device manager, which of course is saying that everything is fine and dandy.
I tested it by running skyrimlauncer to see what video card it detects, as well as manually adding the proper one to the ini files, starting the game and looking through the output render log file. For every set of drivers, I tried running it with the Nvidia GPU as default/by adding the relevant executables to the whitelist/by running them with the Nvidia GPU through the contextual menu.
I think it's time for the computer repairman. Luckily I have 5 more days left on my warranty:) Thanks for the help.
Do the Nvidia and Intel cards work properly on all other applications?
If so you could spare your time because you cannot claim any warranty because your chances are really small to get something done. The hardware producers are not liable for the product of the software producers, however it might worth a shot- if your GPU is somehow broken you might get it changed, with a lot of luck they might also give you a new comparable to yours as parameters laptop.

The Intel card works just fine, but not the Nvidia. When I set the Nvidia GPU to default, it is supposed to kick in even when watching HD videos (I also remember it doing this in the past), but now it says zero activity on the Nvidia GPU when doing that. Also other games only recognize the Intel card. It's difficult to troubleshoot, because Windows and the Nvidia control panel keep saying everything is fine and dandy, yet in praxis the Nvidia GPU never kicks in.
Make sure to make good use of that warranty while you still have it! Don't leave it for the final day. By the sound of it there is a hardware issue or some kind. So yeah - send it for repair and if they can't fix it then you might as well get a new laptop for free.:P
