Flying in cruise back to Curacao she wondered if she should really go and check on her parents, having noticed by now the longer she kept her silence with them the more she lied about them. She looked at her PDA, more staring at than anything else while the Aurochs continued its way in cruise. After some staring and flipping and turning her PDA while pondering on what to do she finally called the number of her parents. It having been well over two months since she last spoke to them, but the excuse for it seemed easy enough. That is if the BPA or any other authority of Bretonia told them she wasn' t a Reaver. But she also thought of telling the whole truth well excluding a few details that she thought didn' t matter to the story like her more intimate moments.
She moved the PDA onto her ear to make a phone call to her parents home, just hoping and at the same time wondering if they would be at home or not. But the doubts were soon taken away as she heard a familiar voice.
--’ Richard Sweetwater.' it simply sounded through the phone, a unexpected father of Nancy, not having seen the number as she always held it hidden when calling. --’ Hey dad.' she said slowly, her voice sincere and sorry in a way. Feeling bad about having neglected her part on keeping contact, especially after all that had happened. --’ Nancy?' her father sounded in surprise, not having expecting his daughter to be calling, although he had been waiting for it for some time now. --’ How are you doing.' She asked, keeping her voice careful as she didn' t want to say anything wrong. --’ Health falling back again, just after I was showing some progress. Too much stress the doctor said.' --’ Sorry for not calling earlier.' She apologized, not needing a second guess as to why he mentioned the stress. --’ But you are okay, right? I mean, we were called about a Bretonian inspector or something alike, officer uhm-' --’ Goodman.' She interrupted but in a calm way. Remembering how he had called her parents when she was shot down and laying in the hospital. --’ Yeh Goodman. So you' re back working with the Bretonian Forces?' he asked, again wondering if it was the Austin Goodman he knew from the 'news' . Although he mostly knew him from his own military career. --’ Was doing a secret operation yes not supposed to talk about it of course.' She explained though the whole operation part itself was already a lie. --’ And you got hurt?' he asked her, the concern more obvious in his voice. --’ Shot yes, though nothing badly, some rest should fix it. Although I guess it will leave some marks when healed. But how is mom?' --’ Worried, too worried I would say, I told her over and over again you would be fine in the end. Although we were surprised you weren' t in the hospital when we arrived. Are you sure you' re alright?' --’ I' m fine, was another precaution. They thought we were followed to the hospital, so I had to be moved. Couldn' t tell you in case they' d turn to you. Of course we had the men around to watch over you two in case of an incident. Didn' t notice them with your army nose?' she joked, trying to keep the conversation easier. --’ I haven' t noticed anything besides the few armed men that were still at the hospital. So where are you now?' --’ Curacao, spending my time. Was given a holiday to cool down from the events. Although you the only way you can cool down here is via swimming. Which is kind of hard with this shoulder. But the weather it nice and relaxing. Still stuck on Leeds hm?' she asked with a light tease. --’ Not stuck Nance, but glad you seem to be taking care of yourself at least, well mostly. But I suppose that' s the risk of the Job. You did roll up that 'gangster' right?' --’ Yes, he' s caught together with a few key heads from the same mafia kind of thing. They shouldn' t be smuggling anymore. But can' t share more than that' She said, simply lying on about the operation thinking it was a good cover to use, doubting her parents would find out more unless Austin was going to run his mouth about her again.
She was glad her dad seemed unaware about the whole thing. Unless he was hiding it but she doubted that, as her dad was normally straight forward with her when he' d dislike something. And her turning out to be a Reaver rather than working for Bretonia as he always had wanted her to do would exactly be one of those things he' d start a argument over as soon as he' d be aware of it.
--’ and dad, since I was in this operation, there is a little side-effect.' She said slowly, getting another lie in her mind to cover her tracks. --’ a side-effect?' she asked somewhat curious but not expecting anything good by the tone of her voice. --’ Not all men were caught that were supposed to be caught. And they are spread all over Bretonia. Which means I can' t return to Bretonia until this blows over, neither can visit you and mom at home.' She said, acting a sorry tone as if she wanted it differently, which was actually the truth but feeling strange about having to lie about the actual reason. --’ I guess I can understand. Know when we can see you again?' he asked, wanting a time rather than 'until this blows over' . --’ I don' t know how long this will take dad, I will be out of actions for some more weeks. But can meet on a Freeport if you can bring up the flying or perhaps just skip onto a shuttle?' she offered. --’ Freeport four?' he asked her, to offer a location more directly. --’ Should be fine and close enough. I' ll call you when I can make it there, for now I need a few more days rest before thinking about moving anywhere.' --’ I understand.' Her dad spoke again slowly and somewhat thoughtful. --’ Mom at work?' she asked wanting to hear her mother' s voice, though expecting now wasn' t the time. --’ She is call us again tonight?' --’ I' ll try my best, but I was told not to call too much, in case it gets traced. You know how hackers sometimes work.' She said trying to keep away from any obligations for now. --’ I'll tell mom you called' --’ and that I love her' she interrupted. --’ of course. Tell us when you need something, and Nancy' --’ Yes?' --’ I' m proud of you.' Her dad said somewhat smugly, knowing she didn' t like those kind of compliments. --’ Dad' Nancy said in annoyed way though appreciating it but only because it confirmed the lies had worked out for now. --’ I mean it. Take good care of yourself while you' re out there, okay?' --’ I will dad. Love you' she said in a way to make a end on the call. --’ Love you too.' Her dad said and hung up himself.
Nancy let out a long breath when putting down the PDA. Relieved that all seemed to have gone well and that she at least had gotten over the barrier to speak to her parents again, even though most of what she said was a lie. Besides her injuries and her planning on staying on Curacao to get some rest. Not too worried for yet another lied message she had send Steve to explain her being later at the bungalow, in case he decided to visit early.
Reminding herself not much later she had to call the kid that was supposed to watch this ranch for a small payment that didn' t bother her, it seemed to have given the boy the brightest smile ever, thinking it was exciting to do a little spying like work and the payment was more than he could' ve imagined. Again she picked up her PDA to make another call this time to the boy, going by the name Marcus Morris.
--’ Yes?' it sounded over the phone when she had dialed his number and had him on the line. --’ Hey Mark, saw anything?' --’ Nope, all quiet here.' --’ Right, he' ll be there soon I think. But don' t need you really to spy on him further, you watching the house was already a big favor which is why I have the credits already wired to you but ' I do want to stay in touch, well if you want to, of course?' --’ For another job?' he asked, excitement coming from his voice as he thought about more money. Thinking this was a lot better and more fun than his afternoon job after college. --’ For another job yes. Stay in touch and I might throw you another, alright?' Nancy asked trying to hide her amusement as she actually found the boy funny while he acted like who he truly was. --’ I' ll sure do that miss Sweetwater.' --’ uhuh.. what did I tell you?' Nancy said with some mother like tone, only acting it for her own fun. --’ I mean Nancy.' The boy corrected himself. --’ Good, I' ll call you when I got something new, and you can call me if you have any problems too.' --’ Alright, thanks Nancy.' --’ No biggie, talk to you later Marc.' --’ Bye Nancy.'
And with that the phone call ended. Again another successful call. Glad she had evaded more drama concerning Austin. With that in mind she continued her way towards Curacao.
Just returning from a refreshing dive she walked back onto the beach of the bungalow of Curacao, having decided she would stay here until she was fit again. Which according to the doctor should be about now. Besides a little rosy colored mark on the front and back of her shoulder she seemed fine. The gunshot wound having fully closed itself and anything that was messed up within the shoulder had restored itself to being able to be used again. Only a few more days to go before the rent of the bungalow would be over, one that stood on a small island within the oceans of Curacao. White beaches all around and only tourists came here. Besides the people that worked here to keep the tourists happy.
She seemed enjoy herself though, a bright cheery smile on her while she dropped herself on a towel to let the heat and warmth from the sun dry her off. Letting out a content sigh while her mind went on about the few thoughts and plans she had made with Steve, also reminding herself to call Austin again and see what progress he had made with the Odin, simply being curious about it. The smile got only more cheerful when she went over the thought of seeing herself and Steve buzz around Gamma. Seeing a few screaming Corsairs in flaming Titans run away from them.
Feeling rather sorry for the boy however that she didn't have much more jobs for him to do. But he seemed to have enjoyed the little talks they had shared over a few calls. At least that's what she assumed since he always seemed a good listener and wanting to share his stories with her without much signs of hesitation. Maybe there was a job, now that she was thinking about it. Still not feeling too content with seeing Austin again, finding it amusing she was about as paranoid as Austin. But sending the boy over to Austin to check on the Odin was perhaps a good idea. At least she wouldn't get in harms way, if there was even such thing still.
Content with the thought she let out a quiet sigh and looked at her hand, the ring sitting around it with a light blue diamond, supposedly a Gallic background. She smirked lightly at it before closing back her eyes to enjoy the sun. Everything works out, always does...
Nancy sat in her Serval, watching over the space of Gamma, trying to get her thoughts straight about the changes that were happening in her life. The Reavers being the main thing where her thoughts went out to. Silver having left her in charge of the colors. Something Nancy hadn't expected, as she wasn't one of the oldest members.
Silver always seemed to be careless about life, but she wasn't careless about everything, her life seemed to be just Reavers and nothing else, concerns about the colors and having them do their job in the field. Being the guns for others and helping certain causes. The Reaver group being declared unlawful in half of Sirius by now. It made her wonder what good there was to be found still. But Kusari was something she couldn't afford to lose.
Nancy glad about how things went with Kusari, having been convicted as a Reaver, work for Kusari and prove to be a useful asset to them. That just to not end up in their prisons for the criminal acts she had done to the house of Kusari. Maybe that was the reason why Silver had appointed her as a leader, as there was a certain form of attachment now.
Being here in the Omicrons with Steve gave a certain feeling to her she couldn't explain. Even though most of it seemed to be sort of fantasy story. Steve, being the leader of the Mandalorian, and her Nancy now the leader of the Reavers, both flying sorties over Gamma to take names. A Gallic fighter together with that of a Bretonian. The thought once more made her smirk. Maybe it was the confusion of the Corsairs that made them such easy targets. Or was it some magical trust between her and Steve. She couldn't tell. Even when he had broken that trust before, the time with Steve always seemed enjoyable and fun.
The longer she spent in Gamma, brainstorming about her life the more ideas came to mind. Her wondering if she would become as known as Silver was. Because who didn't know Silver, the symbol of the Reavers, bounties one by one stacked onto her name. And she always managed to talk them down and the Reavers ended up with a new profitable contract. To do that it would require talent Nancy figured, wondering if she had it in her. But making sure the Reavers would live on as a tight group was the main cause. The closer they are the better they do their job, the more profit, she reasoned.
With those thoughts she had set the ship in gear and flew back to the Freeport to meet back up with Steve for another sortie and after that, off to talk to her men, the Reavers.
