Once the home to the Bretonia Armed Forces in Dublin, the Essex was the gatekeeper to New London, providing security to the multitude of miners in-system and scanning all ships that passed through the Jump Gate for illicit Gold shipments smuggled from Bretonia Mining and Manufacturing (BMM) operations. Due to the Gallic Royal Navy's all-out assault in New London, the Bretonian Armed Forces was forced to recall the Essex from its long standing orders in Dublin to face the invading fleets.

The climactic final confrontation around the planet eventually came following events elsewhere forcing Gallia to make a final push. With the two opposing fleets in full battle order, the Essex took up position on the Allied left, and faced off against the Carrier configured Castres as it attempted to flank the allied fleet. The Essex proved too much for the Castres, and the fleet was defeated.

Following the destruction of the Castres, the Essex saw itself up against the Athos, which had just finished its attack on the main allied fleet, and sensing the battle turn against the Gallic side, was attempting to escape towards Dublin. The Essex, exhausted from the battle, could not finish the job, and the Athos escaped.

As the dust settled from the battle, Essex, as a result of the loss of the Suffolk during the final confrontation, found itself responsible for safeguarding New London, yet the issue of the security of Dublin remained. Faced with limited resources, the Essex split a battlecruiser force off from the main body, and dispatched it to Dublin, while the Essex maintains operational support from New London.
