Constructed at Yokohama Shipyard in 798 A.S. the Battleship Matsumoto is one of a select few Genji class Battleships built primarily as mobile bases and for securing key locations from pirate forces rather than the crushing brutality of frontline capital ship warfare. As a result the Matsumoto lacks the agility of it's sisterships but packs a considerably higher amount of armor, sensor systems, and firepower.

With the end of its assignment protecting the Otaru Border Station construction, paired with the deteriorating situation in Nagano, in 824 A.S. the Matsumoto battlegroup was issued new orders. The forces were re-deployed to the contested system with the bulk of the KNF Northern Fleet in support, intending to stop further Blood Dragon incursions within the new territories.

Developments both in the Sigmas as well in the Taus forced the Kusari Naval command to withdraw the Matsumoto to her previous post in the Hokkaido system, in order to prevent a surprise attack and rapid advancement from Gallic forces. Should it happen, the Matsumoto and her battlegroup now stand ready in the Hokkaido system, prepared to deploy their strike craft at a moment's notice and hold the system. Meanwhile, the battle hardened and veteran pilots of the Matsumoto group resume their previous assignment, fighting off Blood Dragons and Golden Chrysanthemums in the nebulas that envelop the Hokkaido system.
