Synopsis

The Cambridge Stellar Research, is a group devoted to the forgotten practice of exploring unsettled and remote planets, primarily in Bretonia and the surrounding territories.

History

While the Sirius Sector have been inhabited by mankind for more than 800 years, it's exploration have been unsteady at best – albeit now habiting at least a 100 seperate star systems, humanity mostly focused on the resources it could exploit – without the ambition to really discover and understand the galaxy that surrounds us. It was therefore that while most planets suitable for colonisation have been thoroughly explored over the course of years, the ones unsuitable for colonisation or without important resources have been largely passed unmarked and ignored -This, however, have all changed in early 818. A.S. The widely recognised geography professor, Paul Eckhardt Dawson from Planet Cambridge have been working in the field for nearly 40 years – and since he's been mostly ignored, or even looked down upon for his chosen field of research, he came up with a plan to make both develop his field considerably and make it widely known: to form an independent research group conducting investigation and surveillance missions in space.

The professor's efforts to organize such a research group would have probably been in vein though – his old age did not allow him to travel for off-world expeditions, nor did he have the will or the funds to organize such a venture. It was Alexander Giles, and a bit later, Sebastian Nash who changed the situation. Despite coming from very different backgrounds – a young, Bretonian intellectual rebel and a middle-aged Zoner with mysterious origins – they soon found a common tone, and the Professor's professional knowledge, Alexander's leadership abilities and Sebastian's financial background called to life one of the most extraordinary enterprise to be found in Sirius history: the Cambridge Stellar Research. The two young titans first investigated the moon of Ashington in the Newcastle System, orbiting the Planet Carlisle – and while almost having been unstrung by the bureaucracy and intrigues of Gateshead Station, they successfully conducted their research. What they have found was beyond all expectations – that it was not Planet Carlisle where the lifeforms present on it's surface have originated from. Such findings immediately brought CSR to the center of a somewhat unexpected attention. Alexander Giles is now the Head Researcher of a group with daily applicants from the fields of geology, astronomy, history and even commerce to flock under the banner of exploring our world to it's fullest. With the group's current headquarters on Planet Cambridge, him and his second-in-command Nash as his Executive Field Researcher are now struggling to organize the waves of applicants into a new faction dedicated to reveal the last undiscovered secrets of the world and planets that surround us.

Diplomacy

With the group still being born, so is their diplomacy. But most importantly, the CSR is an independent researcher organisation, dedicated to the exploration of Sirius regardless of politics. Hence the group is following an attitude similar to that of the Zoners. Despite this way of thinking, no official connections have been estabilished towards the group, however, all CSR ships have been instructed to be exceedingly friendly towards them. With the group's current location located on Planet Cambridge, they are currently under the jurisdiction of Bretonian Law. However, CSR's relationship with the authorities are far from ideal – albeit the group's operations are entirely lawful, certain voices of importance amongst the authorities dissatisfied with the quick rise of the organisation are doing their best to put CSR at a disadvantage. CSR is friendly neutral with the Bretonian Police and Military, cooperating when needed but far from being allied.

Equipment

The CSR is a civilian organisation, hence it uses all ships utilised by civilian engineers. Plans to extend the used line of equipment are still undergoing. The faction's most important vessel however is the X-Shuttle, a ship capable of surviving the extreme environmental conditions most surveillance missions are conducted in..
