The covert network of the Gallic Junkers existed not only in the Houses of Sirius. Once the Gallic officials received information about the Corsairs and the Outcasts, they wanted to learn more of the two groups. A narrow path in the minefield blocking the Omicron-80 Jump Hole was created, small enough only for the occasional small ship with precise knowledge of the path, which allowed the Junkers to continue gathering information about these factions. Lixheim, along with Lodeve, are the two stations where those mine runners are stationed.
Presently Lixheim's importance has somewhat diminished. Minerunning is no longer done for intelligence-gathering purposes. With few other means to survive, the Gallic Junkers at Lixheim have begun to use their knowledge of the minefield to smuggle small amounts of cargo through to, and from, Sirius.
