History

Prison Liner Hildesheim

In 812 A.S. the Rheinland Federal Police ordered a prison liner to be built by Republican Shipping. The vessels used before, mostly modified Pelicans, had been intercepted by accomplices of the captives to free them. The government wanted to make a clear statement and in 813 A.S. the prison liner Hildesheim was launched from Alster Shipyard. As one of the few prison ships in history the Hildesheim has had a maximum security ward aboard and was capable to hold 2500 prisoners and pretrial detainees. Cells for one, two and four persons were located all aboard the vessel. During the transfers of subjects up to 300 guards and 150 members of crew were stationed aboard. Her first assignment was to transfer around 250 criminals from Planet Hamburg to the facilities of Vierlande.

Right on her first voyage a couple of Unioners intercepted the liner and they have tried to free some of their cronies from the Hildesheim but the attempt failed. From that time multiple raiding parties tried to crack the defense of the liner but only two incidents were close enough to a prison break. While not needed, the ship was moored at Vierlande Prison or back in Alster Shipyard for repairs and upgrades.

Within october 814 A.S. the flights of the liner had been stagnated for weeks because of Liberty raids within Rheinland territory. Once again the Kanzler Reinhardt was focussing on the war efforts against Liberty, there was no need for the liner and it was sold to Sirius Red Cross in 815 A.S. for a very low price to support the humanitary work and - as it is rumored - to get priority support for their own soldiers and pilots in the war.

An abandoned cell block aboard the Hildesheim as seen over security monitors.
Life is a prison,
Oh God let me out.
No one to listen,
To hear when you shout.

Climb the walls of insanity,
Ride the waves of despair.
If you fall it don't matter,
There's no one to care.

Used to wish for a window,
To see birds, trees and sky,
But you're better without one -
Stops you aiming too high.

Transfer to Sirius Red Cross

Once again the Hildesheim came to Alster Shipyard to be handed over to Sirius Red Cross. A delegation of SRC came from Bretonia to bring the vessel to New York because Deep Space Engineering made the best offer for a refit of the vessel. When the director of the Red Cross came aboard the "Hildesheim" for the first time he was shocked, Rheinland Police nearly ripped everything useful away and the vessel itself was close to nothing but a flying hull. During the transfer to Liberty commanding officer Professor Mitchell nicknamed the liner assembly kit. Only with maneuver thrusters and the trade lane network, the by that type unregistered, vessel was brought to New York to be rebuilt and refitted at Baltimore Shipyard.

After 5 months in the drydock of Baltimore the christening ceremony was held with delegates of all four sirian houses to show them the business of the Sirius Red Cross. Fortunatly there has been no diplomatic incidents with the Rheinland delegates in Liberty space.
Now known by the name "Sacred Heart" the vessel is to be found at various places within charted space.

Configuration

Ship Systems

  • 9x Transport Turrets Mk III (only used in selfdefense)
  • 1x Enhanced Countermeasure Dropper
  • 1x Advanced Transport Graviton Shield
  • 1x NavStar Navigational System
  • 1x Standart Transmitter (Code: Red.Cross-Sacred.Heart)

Medical Setup

  • Patient wards (marked red)
  • Intensiv care unit (marked yellow)
  • Diagnostic radiology (marked orange)
  • Surgery rooms (marked green)
  • Waiting area for visitors (marked white)
  • Senior physicians office (marked blue)

Wards

Due to the different diseases and injuries there are some kind of wards to suit the needs for the specialized treatments. Regarding this, most of the ICUs are located close to the surgery rooms to respond as fast as possible to emergency situations. There are also different areas for diagnostics on each deck to prevent that patients have to be brought through the whole ship.
With the war between the Kingdom of Bretonia and the Kusari Empire still fought close to Planet Leeds the engineering division of the "Sacred Heart" has built a pediatrics ward to care for children injured during combat situations. The first visit to Planet Leeds had shown the need of the ward and now there are thoughts about expanding it to make it possible to treat more children at one time. Maybe there will be a comined ward to not have the children seperated from their wounded parents.
Even a small psychiatric ward was installed to deal with upcoming stress, traumata and anxieties of the patients.

Crew

Aboard the "Sacred Heart" is a total staff of 226 crew members but in distresses there might be a staff of 300 people aboard. Most of the crew is in the medical division as they are doctors, nurses and therapists. Organized within their subjects there are several senior physicians directly under the command professor James Alexander Mitchell.

The senior staff consists of the following persons:

Under normal conditions the divisions are splitted to:

  • 166 persons in medical crew
  • 60 persons in ship crew

Informations

The fundings for the "Sacred Heart", her crew and even the treatment costs are coverd by donations to the Sirus Red Cross. By not taking direct fees for treatments the vessel obtains her neutrality with most of the parties in Sirius. Still some freelancing pirates are not capable to understand her mission and already tried to pinch credits from her crew.
Due to her massive consumption of pharmaceuticals there's a special business contract between Cryer Pharmaceuticals and all Sirius Red Cross vessels allowing them to buy the medicines needed for treatment for smaller costs.

Some times it is not possible to return military, police and corporated pilots to their affilated stations while the "Sacred Heart" is in their house and they are brought to another - even hostile - house. By now none of the patients has been consigned into enemies hand and they never will be. Only treated and healed criminals are consigned into proper authority hands.

Diplomacy

The "Sacred Heart" and all other vessels bearing the marks of Sirius Red Cross are working completely neutral to everybody in Sirius. Following the hippocratic oath nobody will be fired upon or will be rejected when in need of help. Regarding some incidents from the past, the crew of the "Sacred Heart" is cautious while encountering some groups.

Cooperations

  • With the large amount of needed pharmaceuticals aboard the "Sacred Heart" an exclusive contract between the Sirius Red Cross and Cryer has been established. Supporting the good cause, Cryer sells the needed commodities for the costs of production. Shuttles are travelling on daily bases between Cambridge Research Station and the "Sacred Heart".
  • After the foundation of The Medics, the chairman of Sirius Red Cross and the representative of the medics agreed to cooperate in every sector. Patients and medical staff can be transfered between the vessels and pharmaceuticals are shared when needed. That way a much better treatment of the sick and wounded is established.
