Talk:New York

What are we going to do about normal Systems? The infocard is only simple:
It doesnt take in account all the discovery additions.

I think this would be quite ok, but it should be updated to reflect Discovery changes. And I think we should also note what can be mined in the system (wouldn't be very spectacular in New York, but it might be interesting for Colorado, for example).

When we update this info, we could offer the updated content to the Admins to add it in the next version, that would improve Discovery, I think.

Is the word "System" in the title meant to capitalised? Tumble-Weed (ComLink) (Holocron) 11:01, 4 June 2008 (GMT)

Okay, about "criminals". Junkers are more of a neutral party, is it fair to them to lump them in with Outcasts and Rogues? it might set a bad model to follow for newbies if they think "Oh, hey, the Wiki said they're unlawfuls, so PEW PEW PEW I r TeH uBeR pWnZ0r Junker killah!"

You have a good point. I just put it in that way as that was what was on the infocard. When you read about Liberty system it lumps Junkers under Criminals. I don't like it either, but im not editing it. Someone else can (Tumble-weed :) ) Or we can talk to Igiss about changing the system infocard slightly to reflect the more accurate Lawful, Neutral, Criminals or something.

I think the system picture should be bigger, like almost touching the infobox frame. --Looqas 00:03, 23 October 2008 (MDT)

I'll try to edit the template to allow a larger picture, just like I said on the forums.
--Nathrael 05:19, 23 October 2008 (MDT)
Done. It's a little bit larger now, though I don't think making the thumbnail size bigger would look too good. You can click on the thumbnail for a full 1024*768-screenshot, though.

Should we think about if there are anything to be improved in the infobox's data fields? I mean is the "House space" item really needed (and should we have there Liberty) and what about the owner? I think we should follow the game's example in this owner matter. And in this case it's the LPI. Discussion is needed before we apply this nice template to other systems as well. I like the current picture. That's what I had in mind more or less. It gives a bit of an idea what New York looks like; the colors etc. --Looqas 23:28, 23 October 2008 (MDT)

Well, I don't know. The LPI is only the system's owner gameplay-wise, but from an IC position, they are just a corporation and not the government. I'd give IC information the priority over gameplay infos, but well, maybe we should make a poll or discuss this in the Wiki Editor Skype channel. The "World" category isn't really needed for House systems, that's true, but when you look at the Border- and Edge Worlds, it would come in handy in my opinion, as the BW and the EW are owned by a large number of different factions.

Looqas: 1) I think we should have the House field and all other info there. Why? Ok, everyone knows New York, but what about Omega-16? Do you know anything about it? I certainly don't. Omicron-99? Tau-44 Omicron-54 or Omicron Alpha? It would be nice to have more info that what is currently in the infoboxes, wouldn't you agree? I feel it brings the wiki to life. 2) The owner of New York isn't LPI, they are a major force there, but they aren't the owner. Same with other places. Think beyond Liberty space for ideas on how to improve the info boxes. We need the template to apply to ALL Systems, not just Liberty ones or well-known ones. 3) We are just tweaking this template on a live subject (New York) until we are happy with it, then we'll mass apply it to all the other systems as well. There may be other things we need to add and haven't thought of just yet.

Perhaps we should apply it to one system from each major house. I suggest 3 of the main (well-known) systems and 4 of the comparatively unknown systems (need independent systems included). It would also be good to apply it to a guard system and see if there is more info we need. On-the-job-applied-research, as it were. -Chovynz 02:12, 25 October 2008 (MDT)

Good, good. Taking the bigger picture into account. I'm just stirring the pot and keeping the issue afloat (by throwing questions and such), so that it does not become "de-facto" without discussion and more careful review. I'm willing to go whit what-ever is decided in the end. --Looqas 04:51, 26 October 2008 (MDT)

Badlands = Dark Matter?

I read in the lore that the Badlands were a particulate cloud subject to fierce electrical storms. However, it does not resemble, visually or mechanically, a dark matter cloud as seen in Texas, Galileo, and Kepler systems. Those are all dark grey clouds, where the Badlands is blue, and are highly radioactive. The Badlands is only radioactive in certain regions. This suggests to me that the Badlands is not, in fact, a dark matter cloud. Where in the lore is it stated that it is dark matter? --AndreDelArco 23:32, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
