Ok, so today I was thinking about 'police-specific' weapons, and why they dont have any. All the police players are currently stuck with civilian-brand weapons or military/navy weapons, which would hardly fit police work. In an RP sense, police need specialized weapons designed more towards immobilizing and disabling enemies, rather than destroying them outright - but they still need heavy firepower to fall back on when opposed by some of the more powerful enemies they have to deal with. Since police players tend to use light fighters, the 'mk2' versions of which are maxxed at using level 9 weapons, I developed a 'brand' of police weapons with three levels of guns in three different categories - shieldbusters, standard guns, and hullbusters.

These weapons, as shown by the infocards below, are produced by a private weapons firm in liberty (perhaps detroit munitions/ageira? or just an anonymous group) and would be usable by all police forces in sirius - but ONLY by police forces. only players with Liberty Police, Inc. / Bretonia Police Authority / Kusari State Police / Rheinland Federal Police ID/tag would be allowed, in-rp, to purchase and use these weapons.

They could be available for purchase from each of the 'home' planets in sirius - meaning Planet New London, Planet New tokyo, Planet Manhattan, and Planet New Berlin.

Infocard:
The Taser-type pulse gun is manufactured by a private company based in liberty for use by police forces around Sirius. The Taser does extremely high amounts of shield damage, but virtually no hull damage. This weapon is most effective against positron shields and weakest against graviton shields. Comparted to other pulse weaponr, Tasers do more damage but require more energy to fire.

The Benelli is a close-range, high-powered particle weapon designed by a private company based in liberty for use by police forces around Sirius. This weapon is most effective against graviton shields and weakest against molecular shields. Compared to other particle weapons, Benellis do more damage but require more energy to fire.





One more thing to note:
What I did was look at current class 3, 6, and 9 pulse, photon, and particle weapons - then decided on a speed/range suitable for each weapon type. The shield damage, hull damage, energy usage, and credit cost of the weapons were then all multiplied by 1.2 (20% increase) to make the weapons deal more damage, but also be more taxing on energy levels to fire.

The pulse weapon has long range and high speed making it easy to hit with, but has very little hull damage - so once your target's shields are down there's really nothing more the weapon is good for. The photon weapon has average speed and range, lower than a lot of laser weapons but higher than some tachyon weapons. The particle weapon was given very low range and average speed, so it's more difficult to use which counterbalances the relatively high damage it deals.
They seem good. Although I wouldn't mind seeing a class ten shield buster with like 1000 shield damage. So that way we have a more up to date ver. of sheild buster. than just the corsairs with the De cids
Well thought out, I definitely like the idea. The military should also have access to special weapons like these though... or even more powerful ones, given to the fact that their job is much more dangerous. To resemble the way things work in RL, civilians can get their hands on "law enforcement ammo and weapons", but at a high cost, civilians getting their hands on military weapons is even costlier. High tech military grade weapons are usually extremely rare and often illegal to posess.
How would we stop ordinary civilians from buying these, or corporation pilots for that matter?
It would be adding a little more work to the Admins trying to keep this in check if something like this happens though, and they are overloaded as it is.

That works well with GADC. Police and Navy always needs stronger weapons to keep up with the growing population of HeavyBombers piloted by Rebel. Good work.

Just needs to say in the infocard "this weapon is only available to police forces". If a non-police player buys them, they could be sanctioned for it, or dealt with in-rp as buying weaponry off of the black market, or stealing from police forces.

//edit - take out the "in Liberty" part about the company that makes them; the more generic sounding the better; will avoid confusion later. Make it clear - Police ONLY; NO ONE ELSE. Although the Civ debilitators are good enough, I like the idea of Police only weapons- perhaps just shield busters that do no damage to hull at all. They might need to be reduced a bit alright though - the damage is pretty huge BUT no one takes police orders to stop seriously so it might encourage smugglers to consider doing what they're told to avoid a Rodney King type situation.
If you want something for police, perhaps you should add class 8 versions? Most (all?) police factions primarily use Light Fighters, which have two Class 8 and two Class 9 gun hardpoints.

Also, the Benelli III does 150 more damage than the Kraken Type 2 with about the same speed, even beating the Black Widow by 120 damage for barely any more power... seems a bit overpowered.

It does more than the Colada, its Level 9 and projectle speed of a PG Chain Gun as well as using alot less energy. A bit uber dont you think?
Prehaps make it use the same energy per shot as a Archangel. 118 is way too low for the dammage/speed it dishes out.

Maybee 2.00 refire or 3.03 for the Benelli's.
Its hard to enfore the police only thing, if you could, then it would make great RP for police but might make them a bit overpowered.
