At least I think this a good idea.....

I think players should be able to buy ships (with NPC's inside) that fly under their command. (they pretty much stay in formation with them). People might think why not use a real escort, but escorts are only temporary and these NPC's last forever.
Of course the pricing for your very own fleet would be expensive (like $500'000'000)
and could be limted to purchase by battlship owners.

But i don not know how hard this would be to add to the game.

Suggestion:
I think LF, VHF and HF should have a faster cruise engine speed because when your getting chased down by a transport (with a player inside) whose armoury, shield and fire power is always stronger than yours you need a quick get away. Personally at the moment the game is a bit unbalanced in terms of how strong transport ships are.

Thnx for listening

Blizz out
Better yet! Get a group of people to fly with you, by paying them!
yeah and we could call them escorts!

Maybe A subforum where escorts could advertise?
We have something like that already, it's called the employment forum.

(edit: the above is of course if you're referring to Hyung's post.)

(edit2: I better add something more useful.)

Unless they're extremely powerful, most players would just ignore them and go straight for the ship that owns them. Even the Bounty Hunter NPCs in Alpha weren't enough of a threat to my light fighter for me to stop focusing on the =CR= Viper I was chasing... and given that those who would attack a battleship would likely be in bombers or capital ships of their own, the NPCs are probably less of a threat to them than to my little Scimitar.

(edit3: btw, metroid, could you please chop a few pixels off your sig? it's creating a scrollbar for me on 1024x768)
I think this was brought up in a different thread that had to do with dockable Cap Ships, and it got shot down...:(
