So, according to Sindroms, the Civilian Shuttle given on restarts has different engines for different factions. I like this.
In fact, engine swaps were suggested a few times in the past. Shot down each time, something about ship classes I believe. Understandable.
But now every ship class has a distinct number. Every class displays seperately because the data files now store it seperately. I would hope that means you can set a command to check that and only allow you to use engines from a matching class, though Freelancer being what it is I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong.
This would allow, for example, Daumann Eagles to have Rheinlandic engines. Or a Junker ship could use any random engine because he pulled it out of a scrap field. Not suggesting limiting it, just throwing out some RP reasoning behind some obvious configurations.
And, compared to the lights, this is a far more visible customization, both to the user and to nearby players - especially on caps.
