This is to be the first official report of Samuel Vimes. Today was a typical patrol but I did run into one anomaly towards the end- a Liberty Rogue Armored Transport simply named "Kill_Me". It was engaged in battle around Newark station. I ordered him several times to drop his human cargo as he first held Manhattan orbit then began to move towards the debris field.

We bantered for a moment before delivering an ultimatum; drop the pilots or engage in combat. Truthfully I had doubts about my chances but he had been wounded in his fight around Newark. I was able to cripple the vessel and spill its cargo hold. The survivors are being treated at Manhattan Medical now.

Lt. Rivers here,

After sudden and seemingly random technical difficulties during a flight through Kasas system, I returned to Freeport 4 in magellan for a techncial check up of the Guardian craft I was flying.

During flight in Kansas system the reactor over-heating alert suddenly went off but according to the crafts on board systems and its diagnosis program, the heat in the reactor core was at perfectly normal levels. Still, to be sure I was sent to Freeport 4 to check the craft.

It turns out I was very lucky and had I not turned around I would not survived that flight. But for further information I am adding the report the Freeport 4 technical crew sent to me this morning.

I was also advised to visit the nearest navy medical facility for a thorough check up on radiation damage just to be sure, therefore, I also would like to request a bit of time to see to that.

Freeport 4, Hangar Crew Report Wrote:Dear Ms. Rivers,

We have concluded our examination of your craft and are glad to report the following results to you. Please forward our report to your high command, it contains important information on the incident.

--- Freeport 4, Hangar Team

Technical Report:

The crafts external hull was in good condition, external damage was minimal to non-existant. Signs of damage (singular, one hit) repaired by onboard repair systems (nanobots).

Sensors were operational and working at capacity. No errors.
Engines were fully operational and working at capacity. No errors.
Computer core was fully operational and working at capacity. No errors.
Reactor core was fully operational and working at capacity. No errors.

Energy grid was fully operational with the exception of a singular damage, more information following.

At first sight we found no apparent cause for the reactor overheat warning. We were able to replicate the error, however, as we started the craft's engines and initiated stand by mode in the hangar.

As we continued our examination we found a minor damage in the energy grid at a certain relay point. This point was neither directly connected to the reactor, nor to the on-board diagnosis programs and warning systems. However, we found that the damage at this relay point of the energy grid caused minor portions of energy to spring over to another nearby relay-point. And this second relay point was directly connected to the craft's reactor core and also to the onboard diagnosis and warning systems due to its importance.

During our testing we found that the energy portions that were springing over from the relatively unimportant relay point 1 to the very important relay point 2 had the potential to essentially short-circiut the relays. This would have caused an immediate reactor melt-down, resulting in the instant explosion of the craft.

The only reason this has not happened was that the buffers of both relay points remained intact, buffering the energy that sprang over between the relays randomly. But those buffers, which are installed between each relay and the next on both sides are made to last, and are optimised for low-amplitude, continuous fluctuations that are inevitable in every energy grid, but not for random and frequent energy spikes as was the case with the malfunctioning relay point.

Therefore, the buffers were eroded and in less than optimal state. We exchanged the two relay points, including buffers and tested the two malfunctioning ones further, to see how much more strain they could have buffered. After five minutes and fourty one seconds of (emulated) normal engine use (on standby mode in the hangar) the buffers and the second relay fried. We estimate that had the pilot flown for another thirty to fourty clicks in cruise speed that this would have caused an explosion of the craft.

Of course, we searched for a reason how such an unlikely series of events could have happened and we found the solution in the repaired hull damage of the craft. The location is exactly proximal to the first, relatively unimportant energy relay and it was the weapon's large calibre (and frankly bad luck) that a single shot hit the craft without shields at this specific location, in such a manner that it would not only damage the energy relay but also in such a particular way that it would affect a nearby, fully protected and buffered critical relay point.
Due to the repaired state it was difficult to determine the exact nature of the weapon that hit the craft but the sheer size of the repaired area spoke for a large calibre weapon such as cruisers or battleships use.

Of course, this raised a concern to us for the safety of other pilots flying such craft, so we interviewed the pilot and she confirmed our suspiciouns: The craft was hit by a gallic battleship stationed to guard a jumpgate in Edinborough system.

Under these premises, the situation makes sense. Small craft are not build to withstand large calibre fire and even though the initial examination raised concern, we are confident that there is no need for concern about the design or production of the crafts.
We believe that this particular incident was simply bad luck, and quite frankly, a lot of it. However, your pilot also was incredibly lucky at the same time for had she flown the craft only a bit further, the craft would have exploded violently and suddenly, chances of her surviving a sudden explosion like that are very slim.

The craft was repaired and is now operational again but we suggest that it is flown to next Navy Yard for a thorough and more in depth check up.

We have still not found the reason why the reactor over-heating alert went off, when there was no over-heating happening, but whatever the case your pilot is lucky it went off, even if faslely. We suspect it to be a related malfunction of the energy grid that was damaged.

//oorp info: a random muse to add some flavor and rp to a random and otherwise irrelevant ingame incident. During the last event I was hit by the stationary gallic battleship in edinborough exactly once and it cost 4 nanobots to repair. But lateron I had to drop out to tend to RL stuff. (I flew back to land under the premise of a reactor-overheating warning Big Grin)

So I thought I would add some rp flavor to it. If there are any problems with it, do feel free to let me know and I will see it changed immediately. Smile

Ensign Underwood, reporting in.

Another short report today, concerning a patrol of the New York System conducted yesterday. Straight away, undocking from Manhattan a hostile contact showed up. Turned out to be a Xeno Marauder, call sign "Black.Mamba". He seamed eager to start shooting, opening up on me almost immediately. He was quickly dispatched, however. Not a moment later though, another hostile contact showed up before I even had a chance to repair and restock. This time an Outcast bomber call sign "Re-Robber", also extremely eager to see me dead. He too, was killed quickly.

Underwood out.

Howdy sirs.

Another eventful day filled with the usual pirate scumbags and even a few other interesting types this time. Namely Rheinlanders. Patrol started off with reports of a Rogue controlled destroyer, Pure Destruction, but the situation appeared to be under control at time time as there were several capital ships and a handful of fighters chasing it. Myself and Morse decided to patrol the lanes, I covered New York, and Morse started to head to California. During my patrol I decided to swing around and take a run through Pennsylvania to check on the miners, but the lane was blocked by a Rogue pirate ship by the name of True Challenge. I told the yahoo to get lost but he was not having any of it. That is when a Rheinland cruiser suddenly appeared and shot up the Rogue and then went after me. Morse quickly arrived on the scene to lend a hand, but the Rheinland ship had already killed a Junker merchant by then, and was very keen on blasting the two of us. We were able to lure the ship back towards the trade lane where the LNS Prometheus was able to blast it to pieces at close range with her cerberus turrets.

The Prometheus arrives
The cruiser is destroyed

The thick particle clouds of the badlands prevent clear guncam shots, but the cruiser's hull is visible in the second shot here.

After this we redeployed to Ontario to assist in patrols as the LNS Iron Peak was going through her shakedown cruise. En route though, I was notified of a Lane Hacker bomber harassing traders near the Colorado gate. The ship fled into the scrap fields with me and an LPI Eagle in pursuit. He turned to fight us, but the battle only lasted a few minutes. In the end the rascal tried to hit me with a nova, but he collided with a nuclear mine I launched and his nova detonated on a piece of scrap metal an instant later, vaporizing his ship.

The Roc explodes

Only after that were we able to help get the Iron Peak through her shake down cruise. During the final tests on her engines we were notified of an Outcast battleship hanging around in California, so I had my bomber prepared to launch. By the time I arrived there were three battleships! Myself, Morse, and the LPI stayed at range while we waited for backup. They came in the form of a bounty hunter bomber, and eventually Teerin, who was immediately attacked by all three battleships. With the Prometheus and several smaller craft en route, the bombers moved in to take the pressure off Teerin and distract them until backup arrived. An unmarked ship going by Marine.Ball attacked our forces several times in the battle as well. Backup for both sides slowly trickled in, our forces were even backed up by a Council cruiser going by the name Cassini, which was escorted out of our space after the battle had finished.

The second
The last one is destroyed

They left an awfully big scrap field behind. Got to get some guys in there and clean up the place.

Flight Log #3
Subject: Lots of fighting and destruction today

First woke up today, and was ordered to report (via Kreugan) to section 2E to assist a group of Navy in defending a DSE platform base.

-- Location: Pennsylvania System --

I met the resistance, and engaged fighting with The.Bass.Renaissance this fighter appeared to have four HEIMDAL weapons, and some Debs. After about 30-45minutes of combat, a mine ruptured my left wing, and I luckily jettisoned my escape hatch.

-- Location: New York System --

After being picked up by a passing trades ship, I proceeded with a new fighter, to cover the Penn Gate. From there I arranged multiple cap ship vessels to enter Penn, and assist with an Outcast Battleship which was reported in D2/3 in Penn. Unfortunately, the base was already badly damaged when the Navy finally had arrived; and was destroyed. (Many reports on specifics of this likely will ensure on the comm link).

I also provided cover of the jump gate to ensure no backup was to relieve the base attackers. After much of this, and Outcast layed a few shots on me, and I had to engage. It seemed as if he was retreating, so as I turned around, I was CD'ed by Golden.Flare, who was obviously called in as backup. I took him out with mines just as the Outcast destroyed my ship...just as I noticed my backup had arrived.

That is all to report for now. Ensign Atlas signing off.

Summary of July actions can be found here.

Additionally, I encounted [C]-CLT-Charlmanne, a Council "Pachyderme" which is apparently a gallic train of sorts. I found it outside Houston, transporting 4935 human organs. Before I could say anything, it docked on Houston and reappeared later full of Food Rations. Evidence can be found here. It isn't my decision on what to do with this evidence, however I did issue a stern warning to the Councilman before leaving to assist Vice Admiral Sanders.

Attention High Command,

Vice Admiral Sanders had organised a little chat with Grand Admiral Golanski of the Order. He seemed fairly level-headed about the situation, however, his associate - Miss Simms - had a bit of animosity towards the Navy. A similar animosity I feel towards the Order, but nothing that can't be overcome with time and hopefully a few Whiskey's.

The comm logs that I've attached with this message detail the brief conversation Sanders and myself had with the Grand Admiral.

Good day,

I am pleased to announce the creation of the new Grizzly combat freighters that our engineers at -ERROR- have recently come up with to augment the Liberator's inability to provide adequate fire support.

Clitoris Class

This state-of-the-art ship packs 4 forward gun slots plus 4 gun turrets to provide a maximum of 8 guns shooting at an enemy. It sports a narrow and sleek profile which makes it hard to hit. In lieu with that, I can consider this ship to provide immediate and ample firepower in the face of being outnumbered.

Developments in propulsion systems have been tantamount to the ship's cruise speed that rivals that of the Light fighter, albeit a bit slower.

Several weapon's experts have tested that two Grizzly ships packed with Vengeance laser weaponry can -penetrate- a battleship' shields.

The full-capabilities of the Clitoris-class have yet to be unleashed, but I am certain that this ship can fill-in the demanding roles of both Interceptor and Fire Support.
For Freedom and Justice,
Captain Remus Sius
