GPV - Guild Patrol Vessels - Semper Paratus

The GPV is an IMG security group that operates in the Tau region and consists of "Thanatos" Colonial cruiser class vessels that are specifically equipped for duty in the asteroid-rich environment of Tau 23.

The following Cruisers form the GPV group:
  • IMG|GPV-Pathfinder
  • IMG|GPV-Pioneer's.Fate

The following Commanders qualified for GPV:
  • Cdr. Elizabeth Hudson

The motto of the GPV is: "Semper Paratus" - "Always ready", meaning that at least one Cruiser is ready to immediately unmoor, ready for action, at any given time. The force is a QRT, a Quick Reaction Taskforce whose mission is to provide help to anybody in need of it as fast as possible.

The mission parameters for these ships consist of:
  • Protection of any Guild Operations and civilian shipping
  • Patrol Duty to ensure the safety
  • Search and Rescue Operations (S&R)
  • Technical Assistance for damaged ships (TechA)
  • Customs and Excise Enforcement (C&E)
  • Anti-Smuggling Operations (ASO)
  • Anti-Piracy Operations (APO)
  • Assistance of IMG Defense (Code Red)

Prerequisites to becoming a GPV Commander:

Cruiser Commanders have to be approved by the Guildmasters and an appointment to the GPV requires special training. The Rules of Engagement (RoE) are taught in this course and they have to be followed throughout the service. Furthermore, every operation has to be followed by an Operation Report in this channel. Moreover, GPV Commanders have to understand that their Cruisers are not primarily warships but that their mission is much more to protect allies, avert harm and ensure our people's safety. Offensive operations are not typically the mission of the GPV.

Crew on a GPV Thanatos Cruiser

The Crew normally consists of 18 human members and one MISU droid that work in three 8 hour shifts.
  • 1 Commanding Officer (CO)
  • 1 Executive Officer (XO)
  • 1 Sensor and Radio Operator (RO)
  • 1 Electronic Technician (ET)
  • 12 Boarding Crew
  • 1 Mechanical Infantry Support Unit (MISU)
  • 1 Medic
  • 1 Cook

Standard Equipment of the GPV Cruisers

GPV Cruisers have a wide array of situations that they have to be able to deal with. From fixing technical difficulties to Search & Rescue operations, long range patrols and reconnaissance missions to defensive operations, they have to have the right equipment on board to be ready when their service is needed.
  • Small Arms (for the boarding crew)
  • MISU Infantry fighting vehicle
  • Food rations (for longer operations)
  • Medical Supplies (for first aid)
  • Repair Commodities (for fixing damaged ships in space)
  • Fuel (to refuel ships that ran out)

=================== OORP ===================

The GPV is inspired by the Coast Guard, especially the show "Sea Patrol". The IMG| tagged and IDed Thanatos Cruisers are not random lolcaps and pew-toys. They are primarily roleplay toys that assist indies and officials in the Taus. They do everything that the Coastguard would do: from confiscating contraband, to towing home damaged ships, from chasing off pirates to roleplaying patrol duty, etc.

Short summary of rules:
  • carry roleplay cargo (not all commodities are needed, but have some)
  • strictly no minimum-rp capwhoring
  • no unprovoked pvp on GPV cruisers
  • roleplay is more important than the blue message or success
  • pvp death for the Cruiser is the rest of the day, not 2 hours.
  • reports (use the form!) must be written about every meaningful rp that happened

The report has to have the Short Operation Report to look standardized and at least a short description of the operation in the Detailled Report. Pictures are very much encouraged. Look at my report to see how it could look.

If you (still) want to fly an IMG|GPV- Cruiser, contact the Guildmasters. You will have to prove that you are at least average in a Cruiser and that you have a good command of roleplay, as well as a solid understanding of how caps are used responsibly.

Detailled Operation Report:

Commenced Routine Patrol at 0930 after Java sensors showed multiple unknown contacts.

Encountered Vessels:
  • Lizard (IMG Hegemon Miner)
  • JM|-Sharp.Scrap-R1 (Pilgrim Liner)
  • JM|-Gear.Golem-R1 (Salvage Frigate)
  • JM|-Honey.Badger-R2 (Collector VHF)

Checking the Niobium fields, a Hegemon miner named Lizard was found, accompanied by an empty Junker Pilgrim Liner JM|-Sharp.Scrap-R1, carrying the unknown transponder tag JM|.

The IMG miner claimed not to work under duress, still I decided to stay in the field to discourage any attempt of a potential criminal act. The Junker captain tried to buy ore from the miner, but claimed to have no money on him.

Consequently I warned the unarmored Hegemon commander to relocate to Java station, as the situation became more and more suspicious with the arrival of more Junker ships, namely JM|-Honey.Badger-R2 (Collector VHF) and JM|-Gear.Golem-R1 (Salvage Frigate).

The IMG miner moored to Java, as the situation became more and more suspicious, even though no crime was committed by the Junkers and none was alluded to.

The interrogation of the Junker vessel resulted in nothing special. They can be described as opportunists and that is not much of a surprise.

As an Outcast snub class vessel passed, I decided to escort the Junkers in order to discourage any hostilities and to see how they are with the Outcast enemy. Cali was not firing at them and the Outcast did nothing to harm them, which also comes as no surprise.

The three Junker ships headed off into the direction of the Tau 29 hole, when our sensors spotted a suspicious vessel, Pirate Train class, heading to Tau 37.

Encountered vessels:
  • ZLPA-HUI-Cupcake (Freelancer Pirate Train)
  • CL}Vulpe.Felanis (Contari Lance Cougar)

We changed course and gave chase, intercepting the smuggler near the T37 hole with Disruptor fire. It stopped and was scanned.

The scan found Blackmarket Munitions that are not explicitly listed as contraband, so I decided to question the commander and find out more about the destination for this cargo.

But instead of answering, the commander decided to make a run towards Cali, encouraged by the Contari Lance pilot. After several warnings and warning shots, we opened fire on the transport.

The ZLPA-HUI-Cupcake was damaged heavily before it docked at Cali and I ordered the Pioneer's Fate out of the station's gunrange. No hull damage was taken, around 200 shield batteries were used.

Later reports by Ms. Morrow claim that the ship was sighted in Tau 37 near the jumphole and chased by the transport Commander to the Omicron 81 hole which connects to Alpha. So my suspicion was correct.

After another patrol, I moored the Pioneer's Fate at Java.

The Patrol started with a sensory contact reading of the ZLPA-HUI-Cupcake, the smuggler vessel we encountered yesterday and that ran to Cali. This time, the Pioneer stayed out of range and coordinated an IMG Defense Bomber Wing that was putting up an ambush in Tau 37. Comms state that they hit the Pirate Transport, forced it to drop its cargo and destroyed the cargo. A detailed report will be done by the Bomber Wing.

Encountered Vessels:
  • ZLPA-HUI-Cupcake - Smuggler neutralised (Cargo destroyed)

- APO

Continuing the Routine Patrol at 1830 after a Java Defense Bomber Wing reported two enemy Asco Gunships in T23 that they could not take out. The vessels were IDed as D.Tutashkhia (Asco) and Evil|R| (Asco). The Bomber wing docked to rearm and for repairs after the skirmish, protected by the Pioneer.

Not having the forces to engage them and with no necessity for a confrontation, we warned all civilian shipping operations in the area and checked the mining fields. Consequently, no harm was done by the piracy group.

Encountered Vessels:
  • Evil|R| (Asco)
  • D.Tutashkhia (Asco) - damaged lightly by the bomber wing

- Code Red

The enemy called for reinforcement, forcing a Code Red on us that had around 30 ships in Tau 23. The Pioneer was able to keep the Ascos at bay and provide cover fire for the snubs for about 30 minutes before the CL}MNS-Bisanzio - the Lance's flagship - uncloaked in the mid if the fight. It overpowered our capital core defense, consiting of a Colonial Zephyr Carrier, a Sagarmantha and myself, taking the Carrier by surprise.

The Pioneer held up bravely, inflicting heavy damage on the Lance's warship, but was taken out by massive incoming fire. The ship had to be abandoned after it received critical damage to its rear engines and the upper deck hull was breaking up. We sealed all bulkheads before abandoning ship, and hope that damage is not as bad as it looked at that time.

The Patrol started in Tau 37 after a short friendship visit at Freeport 10. On our way back we encountered a red contact, Outcast Falcata bomber. It jumped to T23. Vectoring his course, RO found out that he was heading to the Niobium fields. We gave chase, arriving in time to warn him about making a demand to the MiCo miners and transports. He made a demand and two salvos dropped him.

Detailled Operation Report:

- Code Red

While patroling Tau 23 and Tau 37, calls came in that revealed the presence of Outcast Stortas in Tau 37 endangering our supply flights from the Freeport. The GPV Pioneer went to investigate the sightings, accompanied by a small patrol wing.

What The Pioneer encountered were 3 Storta Class Cruisers. Alexandra made short work of their bomber escort, while I was taking on the first Cruiser.

The two Cruisers engaging first were only lightly armored and thus broke up quickly under the fire of the Pioneer's batteries.

However, the Whirling Dust was heavily armored and it did considerable damage to the Pioneer's hull, while I was concentrating fire on their second cruiser to reduce enemy firepower. The Whirling Dust was taken out together with the GDV Oceania that arrived at the perfect time to save us.

The Pioneer is in the Tau 44 drydock for repairs, but as these are not substantial, we expect to be ready to launch within the next 12 hours.

Detailled Operation Report:

- Code Red A

A Storta with the name "Liutel" was spotted approaching a fight between the Lance and Junker Marauders on the one side, and IMG on the other side. The enemy cruiser made the mistake to underestimate the Pathfinder and was destroyed. The Pathfinder was drawn out of the fight after her main targets had been taken out.

- Code Red B

The Hispania, an Outcast Dreadnought class, was in Tau 23. It was aiming its attention on an Order warship that was close to Java. With a little ruse IMG managed to create a situation which looked as if the Order warship was sent out of Tau 23.

The MNS-Hispania fell for the trap, left the Cali vicinity to engage the Order warship. GDV-Oceania and GPV-Pathfinder jumped in and attacked it surprisingly. The Order warship held long enough to absorb most of the damage but was taken out later by arriving Outcast reinforcements.

Pathfinder and Oceania managed to withdraw in time.

- Code Red C

A snub patrol called in a MNS in Tau 23 and so we rerouted to help out. The MNS-cc.Navarra (Cruiser class) was engaged in combat with a Bounty Hunter gunship and Alexandra's Patrol Ship.

The Pathfinder fired 6 missiles from long range, alerting the enemy of the presence. With the shield downed, I commanded the Pathfinder into close combat and took the Cruiser out with no damage to my ship, as the shields held. The Outcast commander was caught by surprise and released the nanobots too late. It was a lucky strike, however well-deserved after some days of bad luck for our forces.

- Code Red D

GPV Patrols spotted Corsair warship signatures in Tau 23. Closer investigation proved Anakin, a Corsair Cruiser class. The threat decided to engage the GPV vessel after RO tried to hail it. As the Cruiser went into close combat fast but was lighter armored it was ripped to shreds.

Most of the damage it inflicted was taken by the ablative armor plating of the Pathfinder, the damage was light and could be repaired in less than 6 hours in Tau 44.

- Code Red E

The Pioneer was on duty when a large Outcast and Marauder raid came in. When confronted with multiple light transport class vessels, the Pioneer was called in. After inflicting heavy damage on some of the enemies, a Cruiser missile hit a friendly and destroyed the ship in the first blue-in-blue incident in the history of the Pioneer and on my watch.

The pod and the ship were recovered and the Pioneer withdrew from the fight in which the numbers made another engagement too dangerous.

A patrol wing called in heavy support after it spotted a Dreadnought class Outcast warship in Tau 23. When the Pathfinder cruised in, it was already firing at the IMG patrols who were delaying them for the Cruiser.

Pressed by the bomber, always evading the punishing fire of the warship, the Pathfinder could not inflict much damage but used a weak moment of the bomber craft to destroy it with a barrage.

The Hornet, commanded by Alexandra McKenzie took out their fighter craft, clearing the way for me to focus solely on the main target.

Unable to take it out alone, as every approach to it was close to suicidal and we had fire all long range missiles, we radioed in the GDV Achilles, another Thanatos Cruiser of the Defense Fleet that was on standby in Tau 37.

With coordinated strikes we managed to take out the Dreadnought in the end.

Another bomber (mr.Robber) that tried to assist the warship was heavily damaged by a Barrage and retreated after his attempt to save the warship failed. We did not give chase.

The Pathfinder had by that time run through all her bots and batteries and had taken some from the Achilles. The ship was docked to Falkland, emergency repairs were conducted and then rerouted to Tau 44 for longer repairs.

We expect the vessel to be fully operational in 72 hours max.

Omega 3 Emergency Frequencies picked up calls from the Freeport that there is a Corsair Battleship in the vicinity. The Biscayne Bay was launched to investigate the vague reports and confirmed the presence.

The Battlecruiser engaged the warship from a distance, doing medium damage to it in the process. However, the enemy commander managed to use the slim profile of the ship to make long range mortar attacks hard.

An IMG Bomber assisted and fired shield torpedos at it. The Corsair escort fighter engaged the bomber, forcing it to act more carefully. An IMG fighter escort arrived, as did a Corsair bomber.

Distracted by bomber fire, trying to assist the bomber that was under heavy fire, the Cruiser got into firing range of the Battleship and took heavy damage. We managed to get back out of range and to retreat heavily damaged to Aland Shipyard.

Tau 37 Falkland reported an Outcast Dreadnought class and an Outcast Tridente operating in the area, thus interfering with IMG Border Patrol operations. Reports suggested the warship was only lightly armoured, so the Pioneer was sent out to take care of it.

After some short but fierce fighting, the Pioneer could take out the warship with the assistance of an Union Corse bomber that was also engaging the Outcasts.

The Tridente tried to engage the Pioneer that had taken considerable damage in a broadside, but succumbed to Primary and Cerberus fire at short range fast.
