Buy something small with a train CD, but traders for 1 mil at a time and CD them when they don't give it to you.

wat?

Piracy is fun, but hardly a way to earn enough creds for a battleship. And doing this ^ is dirty, won't earn you any friends.

If I'm not mistaken, pirates pirate because this lets them earn money more easily than working as Fort Bush's janitor. Actually making money while doing it is fine. The traders you're pirating are also trading to get money, after all.

It'll never be as fast as trading, no, but it definitely is a lot more fun.

Edit:
And yeah, for some reasons that only the (balance) devs comprehend and that go above everyone else's heads, the Sabre has been nerfed repeatedly while new civilian and borderworlds ships have been added that are better than the .86 Sabre.

Just get a Falchion. More responsive than your average heavy fighter, about the same size as one, with VHF firepower and unusually high survivability (68 bots/bats and such a tiny little front/back profile is nothing to scoff at).

What about Bayonet? It used to be great in 4.86, haven't tried it in the current version though
The Lane Hackers have a few of there own ships, they have two heavy fight the Bayonet and the Falchion. They also have a gunboat.

As for cruise disruptors, I like the train CD (range of 3K with a refire rate of 1.0), the Renforced CD has longer range (3.5K) but doesn't fire as fast (0.67 (or something like that)).
The Bayonet's still a really neat ship. Fast, fairly hard to hit. The way HFs should be, really.

The Falchion is probably an easier ship to master, however. Although it may just make you very reliant on boxing - it does that awfully well.
