what kind of ship do I need at leased for a hyperspace scanner?
Any ship with a Class 1 equipment slot. e.g. the CT-73 "Stork" Civilian Advanced Train

A cruiser is fine.

Oh yes, sorry. You are Correct.

No gunboat has a Type 1 Equipment slot. In that case a Cruiser would work fine for your purpose. Be mindful of the cargo requirements for the Fuel needed unless you have a supporting vessel supplying you with fuel.

So that means if you put on armour upgrades your hold capacity will obviously be less. And the minimum space I'd recommend is about 900 For solo scanning with a Mk1 or Mk2 scanner and using oil, H-Fuel, Deuterium or Helium-3 only.

And if you are using MOX, the minimum space I recommend is 750 units.
Can a stork support a hyperspace survey module AND a jumpdrive, or do you need two equipment slots? And why do certain battleships have THREE, when theoretically you might only need two slots. One for jumpdrive and one for survey module?

You need two equipment slots. Not sure why the stork even has a Type 1 Slot. It doesn't have the powercore To do any scanning or jumping.

The reason some battleships have three is this:

One for a Hyperspace Survey Module Mk2 or Hyperspace Survey Module Mk3

One for a Jump Drive Module Series III

One for a Jump Drive Module Series IV

"But why a series 3 and 4?" You may ask.

Well, the series 3 is a battleship jump drive. It will jump the battleship to any coordinates you imput, provided you have the fuel.

The series 4 however will force other ships near to the jumping ship (within 300m) into the wormhole and so can be used to move fleets of capital ships.

But, the series 4 also uses significantly more fuel than the series 3 due to the fact that it can jump multiple ships.

The stork can equip either a jumpdrive or a scanner (not use them). The stork can also have a lot in its cargobay, unequipped. The battleships, I'm not sure, must have been a derp with the dev team.

No, Not necessarily, it is so that you can have a Series 3 for just jumping yourself and a series 4 for jumping a fleet.
