I saw one of the Angels post something like this in a thread but can't find it now, so here's a quick tutorial I made for a new player because I've seen this asked a few times already (Feel free to copy & paste then make a better one. Also I have no idea if this will change with the April 2015 update) :

When you start up DSLauncher this is what you see - http://i.imgur.com/Jof5sPO.jpg
Highlighted in red is where you switch between game parameters and accounts. When you click on "My Accounts" you'll see a little menu drop down with which you can do stuff like edit existing or create new accounts - http://i.imgur.com/yW15SFq.jpg

To create a new account give it a name and description then click on "Generate" to create a code and signature for the new account - http://i.imgur.com/LHA1qUO.jpg
Now you have another account, allowing you to have another 5 ships. To move a ship to another account, first set a move code.

To set a code for it, log in with the ship you want to move then type : /set movecharcode <code>
You should see a message on screen if successful. Moving a ship costs 2mil credits.

To switch between accounts just double click on one - http://i.imgur.com/yW15SFq.jpg
On the bottom left you'll see "Current Account" which shows what account you'll start the game with.

Now that the ship has a move code log in with the other account and create a new ship (the name is not important as you'll delete the ship within a minute or 2).
As soon as you're in game type : /movechar <name> <code>
You will then be kicked from the game so the account can update - that's normal. Wait a bit then log back in. Your ship should now be on the new account. This is also how you transfer ships you bought from other players.

When you have multiple accounts and ships it's a good idea to back them up - http://i.imgur.com/rZJR2rX.jpg
Your save files are in your computer's registry so you have export them as a .xml file. As shown above, on the bottom left of the launcher you'll see a little menu for it. It's easy to use. You can also import your accounts to another computer this way.
I will continue by posting some usefull chat commands :

You enter them into any chat window by pressing the ENTER bar to open the chat,
then typing " / " to note that it´s a command. Exemples often used :

/s ( system wide chat )

/l ( local chat in scanner range )

/g (group chat )

/r ( reply to last green / personal chat message )

/pm <name> ( private message to <name> player

/givecash <name> <amount> ( give player <name> a sum of >amount> cash )

/conn ( if docked and with empty cargo : go to Conneticut )

/return ( if docked and in Conn : return to last base )

/renameme <name> (change character name) 1x in 1week, costs 2mil cash

/restart <template name> restarting using a restart template , must be docked to use

Do you want this moved to the tutorials section? It might get lost here.

And yeah, moving this to the tutorial section &merging the 2nd with the first post would be great. You could also format it a lil' to make it look a bit prettier :3

If you want. Thanks for offering. I did put specific words in the title exactly for that reason though.
Hope this is not off-topic, but in the launcher there is also an option to log chat. If it is switched on, does it automatically log all chat or do you need to press some buttons ingame? Also, where are these logs saved on harddrive?

And what does the option show flight text do?

It automatically logs the chat and a few other things to the DSAce.log file in Documents/My Games/Freelancer when the option is switched on, which you can open with Notepad or something similar to view the contents.

I believe the "Show flight text" option just toggles whether or not the game shows the "Press space to return to free flight" text in-game when you're using go-to, docking or otherwise not flying with the mouse.
I see. And wow i would NEVER have found that, thank you for the explanation.
