Planet Houston held elections today for a new planetary governor. The citizens of Houston overwhelmingly elected Chief Jonas Valent of LPI as the next governor. Sources have revealed that the "Valent for Governor SuperPAC" spent almost a billion SC "securing" this victory. While rumors of voter fraud and intimidation abound there are few facts to support this.

Running on a secessionary platform and promising a return to the roots of the Texas culture, Valent easily swayed the voters of this planet. Many observers including this news service initially thought the secession talk during the campaign was nothing but an attempt to pander to the masses. However, during Valent's acceptance speech he outlined the steps he was taking to secure the Texas system for Texans and Texans alone.

Valent stunned all when he announced that LPI had taken control of the Jumpgates, disabling them all, and were moving heavy forces in to cover the jump holes. As of the time of this Broadcast we can confirm that the Texas system has been completely sealed off from Liberty.

Reports from Liberty confirm the movement of all LPI Officers and assets into the Texas system. The sudden absence of the Police from Liberty has led to a crime spree of Epic proportions. Naval units not assigned to the Leeds front have scrambled to try to bring order back to the skies of Liberty, so far without success.

President Powell has denounced the actions of Governor Valent and has vowed to retake the Texas system using all necessary force.

So....

Texas has Seceeded from Liberty, locked itself off from the universe by closing the Jump Gates and blockading the Jump Holes into Texas and on top of that, all of the LPI forces have scarpered into Texas to take up residence there.

I wonder how long they will be able to hold out, what with lack of resources caused by the blockade, lack of trade etc.

I see the people of Texas needing to make some sort of deal with Traders of various sorts to get needed items.

Maybe those Traders who move interesting items will see a boost in pocket lining material for moving legal items in useful quantities past the blockade, because you can be sure that the Liberty Government is going to put thier own blockades in place at JH's in order to try and 'starve' Texas into submission....

Shame Valent forgot about that battleship conveniently located in orbit of the planet.

CNS Breaking News Update

Sources inside Texas report that the Battleship Mississippi has been boarded by LPI SWAT teams. Reports are sketchy but it seems Governor Valent was able to bribe the crew with an offer of free Sunbucks Coffee and Donuts. LPI Forces met with no resistance in capturing the vessel.

Aghast that Liberty Forces were bribed so easily, President Powell declared a Liberty wide ban on Sunbucks Products.

In a statement he declares, "It is evident that Sunbucks Inc is nothing but a pawn in Governor Valent's malicious game. I urge the people of Liberty to discontinue all support for this puppet organization."
