Kusari Naval Forces
39th "Sankyuu" Mobile Taskforce

Ship Designation: [KNF]Shipname|39th

"The largest challenge to a Navy is not wartime itself, it's the phases of peace between conflicts. Foes and friends alike suffered greatly from ill-faded decays of discipline during these times. The new 39th Taskforce is the first step to keep our auxiliary assets in excellent shape, ready for deployment at any moment."

- Kaigun Gensui Okamoto, Matsumoto Command.

Background

Known for roughly a decade as the "Sankyuu" Squadron, the 39th was a mobile training units consisting of previous ground force assets and other career changers aiming to join the ranks of the Naval Forces. Often belittled as rookies incapable of handling tasks on their own, the squadron saw little attention by comrades and command alike.

By the year 833 AS, the landscape of the Sirius Sector changed rapidly. With half the sector in crisis mode through faltering economies, strained supply lines and significant pushbacks for all major colonies in their battle against outlaws, the Admiralty Circle held an emergency meeting with the Shogun and Defence Ministry. In sight of the IKN-Sado's failure, the destabilization of the food industry, the notorious escapades of the 66th in unknown deep space and worrisome hints on further decline within the colonies, another conflict appears imminent. Against who or what was unclear, all that mattered was to keep the Empire's forces ready.

In order to guarantee the Empire's superiority in future conflicts, the 39th Mobile Taskforce was created. Acting as successor to the old training squadron, the 39th are not permanently assigned to specific regions and are granted relative free reign across the Empire's spheres of interest. Consisting of various types of assets ranging from fresh commanders, academy graduates to returning veteran pilots, the 39th are one of the most diverse units of the Naval Forces.

Primary Tasks

The 39th Mobile Taskforce serves under direct command of Kaigun Gensui Okamoto.
Their operations generally involve:

General peacekeeping duty
  • Destruction of hostile elements
  • Interdiction of contraband

Rotating assignments with the permanent fleets:
  • Acting as reinforcements to bolster patrol strength
  • Training sessions

Rumours persist that special KNI tasks are handed out to 39th personnel from time to time.
