OK, discoverygc.com/forums has a "Player Utilities" section that points to "Rules".

Trying to learn the rules. There seem to be a couple of missing links to appropriate forum posts that give further details:

Quote: Player should follow the restrictions and allowances listed in their ID
Is there an official (non-wiki) list of the restrictions and allowances for each ID? Perhaps with commentary on various decisions, such as the meaning of "unlawful activity" (does it include smuggling, for instance?). Links to such info in the rules would be really useful.
I've founds hints and bits in various discussions, but nothing I currently recognize as "official" as I go based on location of info, not who posted it, because I don't know who gets to speak "officially" and who is only providing opinions. And I've read several posts that are quite explicit about the wiki being "not official" in any way.

[edit]:
is this the relevant post, found in the tutorial section: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=126908
Although it still doesn't define "unlawful activity" (for a Freelancer).

Quote:All bounties must be posted on the forum.
How about a link for "the forum" to the correct one? Do you mean this one: http://discoverygc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=63
http://discoverygc.com/wiki/ID Here you can check the ids.

And yes, smuggling is also an unlawful activity.
Restrictions and allowances for each ID are explained in the ID description itself. Unlawful activity and other stuff like illegal goods or ships all depend on the system, or rather space you're going through and what factions claim rights on that space. They all have their laws which you can find here and here. For example, having Cardamine is illegal in Liberty while you can legally have a certain amount of units in Bretonia. There is no "official" law as each house and faction has their own. It's pretty messy for a new player but reading the laws thread I gave you above covers most things.

To your 2nd question, yes that's the subforum where you post your bounty. You find a thread of a faction/character you claimed the boutny on / want to register for, and then you post your screenshots of the enemy's ID scan and the kill (blue message).

According to other posts, no it's not. (example: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=121214 )
But that's why I'm looking for an official statement as part of the rules themselves, not opinions in random forum posts, even if they're from people who might be server administrators.
I'd like a clear and definitive statement as part of the official rules. Is that too much to ask?

I've been wondering if people who have been here forever have had the time, over the years, to read ALL the laws and ALL the posts that are scattered around. As a new player, I would rather not have to take weeks of time just reading through all the bloody forum posts to try to piece together a set of rules, or at least the ones that are going to get me kicked off the server or permanently nerf my character in some way.

I believe this is incorrect. Yes, it is "illegal", but by Server Rules does not count as "Unlawful".

If it was, a freelancer couldn't smuggle without breaking the rules, and that would be a bit silly Big Grin

/ / . please inform me if I'm wrong!
Smuggling is an unlawful activity and you can fines or destruction of your ship ingame, it is not against the rules so you will not get sanctioned by server staff.

Lawful/unlawful is an InRP distinction to help drive interaction between players, server rules are the rules you must follow to play here.
ID for Freelancer states:
Quote:Pilot carrying this quasi-lawful ID is a Freelancer, who:

Can attack any ship in self-defense or to protect an friendly or allied ship.
Can fulfill any bounty and escort contracts, and may treat transports as combat targets when executing a bounty or escort contract against them.
Cannot use any transports with more than 3,600 cargo, except for the Pirate Train.
Cannot participate in unlawful actions except as described above.

Now smuggling is a tricky one here since it is not really smuggling but just trading things that might be frowned upon in some areas but allowed in others, anyone can smuggle.
There are no rules around who may carry what commodities, just expect InRP repercussions for some goods in some places.

Hope this helps.
"Cannot participate in unlawful actions except as described above. "

Yep, you hit the nail on the head there I think .

You won't ever get in trouble with the admins for smuggling, but you might get in trouble with the police factions in game... but that's the hard life of a professional smuggler.

No. No! NO! Don't make guy confused here.

By unlawful actions, the ID rules means actions which means piracy and destruction of lawful faction ships. Nothing else. If it wasn't the case, Freelancer ID wouldn't be able to smuggle Cardamine, Slaves, etc. Smuggling according to the ID rules is not unlawful action.

What doesn't mean it is not against local laws of the Houses and you can be in roleplay fined for doing that.

Since we are talking about Freelancer ID and I got clarification regarding what is 'escort' and 'hired on spot', here we go:

- Escorting is protection of a transport concluding trading (it includes smuggling) activities - if you do not have transport and/or you do not trade, it's not escorting.

- Being hired on spot falls under bounty hunting line and it is working alongside your employer to combat things. Only non-generic (e.g. LPI, Kruger, Dragon) ID can hire on spot.

- Pirate ID cannot hire on spot for combat, but it can hire escort only if Pirate ID flies a transport and trades goods.

- The same logic applies to Miner ID and Freelancer ID - both of which can only hire for escort job. This means FL ID gunboat cannot hire snubs for protection, because it is 'hiring on spot' - not escort job (see above).
yea toris got it right. Tongue

also smuggling is not considered 'unlawful' in terms of ID language
From what I've been able to gather, if the rules say "don't do something unlawful" what they mean is "don't do something that's frowned upon by all factions in Sirius. So attacking locals is always frowned upon in Sirius, and is thus "unlawful". Carrying certain goods is only frowned upon in some areas of Sirius so it's not "unlawful" in the rules.

Which means that it looks like it's only unlawful if it's a Sirius crime.
