Well I've been playing freelancer on and off since I bought it in 2004, I always seemed to finish the SP campaign, hit level 40 then get bored. I then downloaded discovery and played like a madman. Once I finished the SP campaign I went on until I felt I knew the ins and outs so I would be ready for the multi-player. I have already been playing for a couple of days on the server and now I want to join a faction.
I've already wrote a backstory, but I don't know if it is neccesary and wanted to tailor it to whatever faction I eventually decide to join. I was just hoping for maybe a few offers or suggestions before I chose one to settle on.
My main interests are heavy equipment (I love it when 6 shots is all I need to down a target), a dangerous environment (constant fighting), and a large group of both allies and enemys so game play is more interesting.
btw I don't know how to make avatars or signatures or anything so a little guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The previously mentioned factions are all fine groups. But they also know they all fail in comparison to the Outcasts. For in time, all of them will be addicted to the beloved Cardamine & under Outcast control;)

Categorizing previously posted factions as good groups is a true statement. Even if a few of them end up as cannon fodder from our guns. The Sirius addiction to Cardamine tactic may take longer than we expected & your grand kids will probably have grandchildren before it ever come close to achievement. The exclamation of "YARG!!!" is a copyrighted term used solely by the {SOB}, ok.. it really ain't copyrighted, but we catch some other group using it we will be very upset & send hordes of spam into your PM box in protest, actually, we probably would forget to do that & just be miffed for an hour or so until we find something better to do. The shooting of the Corsairs & CR vermin is a factual statement, although, they tend to shoot back & usually with some accuracy that may find you yelling "Oh CRAP!" while ejecting in your escape pod. But it ain't that bad lately. Sure, there's still some idiots who fly in half a klick from a lawful base and kill you with barely a word, but people have started to get the picture that it's against the rules, and at least you know that most of the unlawfuls in factions around here have a sense of fair play. /bias
My recommendations are as follows: The Order, Rheinland Military, and the Bretonian Armed Forces. The Order is always fun. We're fairly open, and if you want to join the player faction, Black Squadron is pretty cool. The RM is great. If you want an angry Germanic fascist, we're your men for the job. And of course, there's the BAF. It's always nice to get a few more Brets down here.
Of course, those may not be your style, but look around a bit. There's lots of stuff going on around here. Whatever you choose, good luck, and may the Lettuce be with you.
