Planet Wichita has seen countless attempts at taming its wild and unpredictable self. From small bands of colonists to the Natio Octavium, very few have seen success or longevity in such an endeavor, especially within the mysterious and desolate system of Kansas.

Ataraxia is a medium-sized sub-terrainian complex, previously serving as a hub for the Auxesian populace. Its primary intention is to serve as a research facility to study the planet's primitive lifeforms, unusual weather pattern, and the system of Kansas its self. The facility was heavily modified from its original design to house an increasing population of civilian and military personnel, and operate low-level production facilities to manufacture fighter craft. The process however is significantly slower than most, due to a scarcity of resources. The surface complex of the facility is dotted with guard outposts, anti-ship batteries, and a shield generator to protect from weather elements and incoming fire.

All entrances of the facility are sealed with bulkheads and airlocks due to the frequent floods that occur on the planet, as well as maintaining an artificial pressure and gravity level inside the facility in comparison to the lower gravity on the surface. This is to compensate for the frequent shift from the facility to space, and prevent adaptation difficulties to new environments with differing pressure, which may cause potential health problems if left unchecked. There are over two dozen levels beneath the surface, each with a varying security level. The more 'civilian' sections of the base mainly consist of residential, botany and recreational (training simulators/video entertainment/lounge) rooms. The research sections tend to vary in security weight. From standard R&D to the more mysterious and illusive Zeta Section of the facility, with varying sections in between.

The base its self is powered on three separate reactors. A standard, a backup and a prototype Azurite Generator hidden within Zeta Section. The Azurite Generator mostly sees use as a test bed for powering smaller sections of the facility every now and then to determine the effectiveness of the prototype generator. The Zeta Section of the facility spans the depths of the underground base, reaching the lowest levels with the highest security. Very few see what lies beyond the armored blast doors and security checkpoints, and even fewer are able to disclose what lies behind them.

The exterior of the base is a mixture of deep forest and swamp due to the frequent flooding the planet suffers from, which makes the establishment of outposts difficult. However, the surrounding area of the central island sees frequent patrols, mostly consistent of Initiates and Wardens to test their resolve in the untamed wilderness of a foreign world. It's very rare for a patrol to disappear, but it mostly occurs during a flood or severe storm, where contact is limited, and if a patrol does not return to Ataraxia in time, they may succumb to the elements of the foreign world. There are very rare occurrences of encountering primitive animal life. Mostly small, amphibious creatures that occupy the wilderness and have yet to be identified.

The wilderness its self within the central point of the island is at its thickest, and sees the least amount of flooding. It isn't immune, however. Streams of water flow through and out in to the oceans constantly, and the terrain is rough, muddy and rocky. A small, abandoned settlement is present which is planned to be investigated in the future to the East of Ataraxia. It is unknown who occupied it or why it was abandoned.

Other islands of Wichita remain inaccessible to Ataraxia without a short flight to investigate. All contain similar lifeforms and treacherous terrain. Some may even be submerged during flood season. Ataraxia is designed to be capable of surviving for several months while submerged in case of a significant flood occurring and endangering the base population. Botany experiments are planned for internal farming for sustainable food supplies, whilst water is desalinated and made drinkable via a purifier connecting to the ocean. Various vents and pipes dot the wilderness surrounding the surface complex, and can be sealed on a whim by the central mainframe.

With the Keeper's Hall being closed and re-purposed as the population is redeployed elsewhere, its command center retains a direct line to the EIDO Uplink for review and Control purposes. A full map of the facility as well as unhindered access to all databases, star charts, research projects, cameras and more. The Command Center is concealed behind the Keeper's Chair, out of sight through a secure blast door. The various consoles and work stations will often not only see use by the Keeper, but by the Curator, and on some occasions - The Venators. This allows the Inner Phalanx to take control of situations from the safety of the depths of Ataraxia, well beneath the surface of the planet. An ideal location for security of Auxesia's highers.

Beyond the Command center, a personalized training room to keep in shape and partake in the occasional sparring match. A bath house and sauna to relax, and various personal storages. The Keeper's Hall was designed not only with elegance, pride, honor and ceremonial status in mind, but efficiency as a hidden central point of operations. A few hidden tunnels are present which connect to other parts of the facility, including the Inner Phalanx residential, general R&D, and Zeta Subsections within the base. The entry points of which are keyed to the Keeper and Curator, for ease of access to the rest of the facility beyond the incline elevators. The chamber its self is heated naturally, and many elements of the cave it was built in line the walls, where the natural waterfalls pour through in to the purifier system, to ensure clean, drinkable and usable water throughout the facility.

The Residential Sections of Ataraxia vary from single bedroom to multi-bedroom apartments designed and furnished equally for even the highest ranking officials within the Inner Phalanx, excluding the Keeper's home, which was modified to replicate a single story bungalow. The Residential areas of the facility consist of civilian sections, paramilitary, and the Inner Phalanx residential, all of which occupy multiple floors to ensure enough spacious accommodations for all personnel within Auxesia. All of the apartments feature simulated external lighting for comfort, as being underground may cause claustrophobia in some individuals. The simulated exterior lighting is set on a timer to simulate the day-night cycle of the planet, which gives a fixed aspect of time judgement for everyone.

Each accommodation features a fully stocked kitchen, and is designed to be self-sufficient in their own way. The botany experiments on the surface and within R&D to replicate food are put to use in supplying many who occupy the facility with fruit and vegetables that would otherwise not be native to the environment of Wichita. The flooding has proven to make farming in any capacity outside of the facility difficult, to near impossible. Since not everything can be grown, there are frequent supply runs made by the Logistics division to recover Food rations and other necessities from the Houses, leaving the facility in a state of dependency on the transport corps of Auxesia, yet otherwise independent from the fleet.

Each bedroom within the residential section might be considered the same, due to the similar furnishings, the Virtual Intelligence assistant for the apartment its self, and the general vibe it gives off as bland. However, each apartment is equipped and modified with a special coating of electroluminescence paint, similar to that found in use by Chameleon Units, which - when interacting with the Apartment VI - allows the resident to customize their quarters with their own personal preference and choice for each room.

Each bed is equipped with the same sheets, blankets, and pillows, as well as spares being provided in the storage closets. A video-comm console is mounted on the wall for quick contact with other people inside or outside of the facility. This makes placing requisition orders for supplies such as groceries or other musts easy, as it provides a direct line to an automated Logistics unit, which each floor is assigned one for management and distribution of supplies.

Each bathroom is equipped like a standard bathroom, with all the necessities present. Toilet, shower, sink, mirror. The showers are modified with benches for comfort and ease of cleaning, while the toilets dispose of waste by direct flow to the incinerators at the lowest levels of the facility.

They're bathrooms, what more could they possibly do?

Many of the sub-sections beneath the surface consist of various workshops, labs, manufacturing sections, server rooms and other areas that make up the bulk of the R&D and Zeta Sections. These sections - Especially ones marked with the Zeta insignia, are off-limits to non-essential personnel. Many can't even get access due to the bio-scanners and security checkpoints which monitor traffic in and out of those areas.

The workshops often consist of drafting consoles and design tables for brainstorming and discussing the development and improvement of technology, equipment, or in rare occurrences - themselves. There is no negativity surrounding interest involving human improvement and evolutionary investigations. In fact, such research is often encouraged for the betterment of the species as whole.

Various levels within Ataraxia are dedicated to the production and manufacture of equipment, technology, and ships up to the size of bombers. Resources are put to use on automated production lines which are monitored by personnel working with Logistics, or R&D. The manufacturing makes use of resources which are imported from allied contracts, Logistics work, or recovered from the local area through other means. Naturally, resource recovery has always been a task for Auxesia, but with the recent influx of size and resource deposits present within the system, it has become somewhat easier to access the needed materials. Of course that doesn't prevent situations from arising.

Many of the needed material require exterior imports, and Auxesia will often reach out to their allies for deliveries, or conduct deals with house corporations, open or otherwise. Another set-back of production is the limited availability of the production machinery, as it is often in use to manufacture weaponry for use on new craft or refits of existing and aging vessels within the fleet. However, as Auxesia continues to grow, these limitations are slowly becoming less hindering to progress and growth, and in the coming months may see a complete irrelevancy.

A significant amount of medical advancements and research falls under the actions of Zeta Section. Many of the projects including nanites in medicine, and more morally questionable projects such as Thalatte have been kept completely under wraps by the illusive section, yet a significant amount was given to the Research & Development for more public access and general use, each properly stocked as they need to be.

Ataraxia makes use of two full-sized hospitals within open areas of the facility, and a closed private medical clinic within Zeta Section under private management. Its purpose is unknown. Nevertheless, the public hospitals are staffed by a full team of trained medical personnel originating from doctorate backgrounds or medical fields within military organizations, as well as the standard medical drones, scanner beds and other state of the art equipment that sees frequent use on the Eidolon Wraith.

Public medical advancements have been somewhat limited, and lately more focused on bionics, implants and prosthetics for regular use amongst Auxesian personnel, ranging from standard enhancements, concealed weapons in bionic limbs, neural interface chips and a wide variety of other applications. There is frequent use of nanotechnology within Auxesia in regards to medical applications and surgical corrections, as well as robotics for general nursing. This limits the need for an excessive amount of medical personnel to be present, and ensures the same amount of care is given by drones as well as humans.
