So it came to my mind that since the JD nerf, ships with more than 3500 cargo space can't use those. So the one thing is actually confuses me - can the bretonia liner use one of those?

Liners cants use JDs, they are capital ship capable devices only.
In the case of the MK4 JD which can jump multiple ships, any ship with a cargo greater than 3500 will not be able to jump thus the bret liner cannot.

bret liner has 3.5K Cargo tho,so it can be Jumped ,and the Bustard "liner" can mount a JD4

not all ships who can mount the jumpdrives can use it(ie: no transports) but only capital ship(check the power requirement before buying one)
the cargo restriction is only for JD4 who can jump multiple ships that are nearby it

The transports cargo limits for jump in group with JD IV is 3600 (The Serenity civilian transport) All others bigger than that cargo cannot jump together.
JD IV also allow to jump together with Battlecruisers or Cruisers, but not Battleships (too fat hehehe)
