Fleet: First Armada, Bering System.

Function: Command cruiser, Q-Ship.

Namesake: Kaiserin Leicht the first remains notable in Unioner history for her pivotal role in leading the Rheinland Empire against the GMG during the first years of the eighty years war. During her reign, Rheinland experienced its territorial, militaristic and influential zenith. Leicht has a pseudo-religious status amongst the Union for her role in initiating the conflict, and no less than seven Unioner cruisers have been named after her.

Service history: The Leicht is notable as one of the few cruisers to have served in, and survived, the Nomad War, harassing GMG elements bypassed by the Niemanist push during the invasion of Kusari. Leicht’s service record has been (mostly) unremarkable since then, serving as a signal intelligence cruiser. Recently, the Leicht has taken a more active role in probing the tenacity of the 5th fleet in Texas.

Namesake: The town of Kleves in pre-Sirian Germany.

Service history: One of the Union’s significant number of vintage 80 years war gunboats. Whilst the Kleves was used during the war to escort logistics convoys, she never fired her guns in anger against the GMG, being relegated to mostly pathfinding and navigation duties, making her one of the few vessels to escape direct combat whilst deployed to the theatre. Due to the terms of the 80-years war and subsequent Economic collapse, the Kleves was relegated to a fleet auxiliary role, before being decommissioned utterly and towed to scrappage. During the Union protests, the Unioners liberated the vessel from her mooring tenders, pulling her into the Alsterfeld as a material hostage, with many of the newly-unemployed Unioners physically squatting in the gunboat until a settlement could be reached with the newly-formed federal government. When settlement never came, the Unioners restarted their newfound asset's drives, and sailed her into the geopolitical no-mans-land of the Bering system, as was the case for innumerable similar gunboats following the resolution of the 80-years war.
