So I've decided to have a go at modeling ships, feedback would be appreciated and please bare in mind I'm only 2 weeks or so working with blender.

Anyways here's the first design, it's a transport nearly 100% done, just need to fix some faces and model the engine exhaust and then apply textures.
I added colors to make it easier to see the ships shape and different parts.

You're on the very steep part of the learning process buddy. Feedbacks won't help you much, you just need to experiment and watch some tutorials first before making real ships (that you'd want to see in the game). I've been exactly where you are right now more than half a year ago, this is how I started: https://p3d.in/UYS8x . So my advice I can give you is, don't ever give up, because modelling is extremely satisfying and fun once you've learned some advanced tricks. So keep modelling and experimenting and don't be shy to ask me or anyone else in the community if you need help.

In my opinion though, I like the shape. Tip: don't rush with the details, just put the image you have in your head in the model first, then start detailing. You may get new ideas when you're on to texturing aswell.

Well I do have an advantage in that I'm familiar with this kind of software since I work with Auto cad it's just that blender works in a completely different way but I'm getting to grips with it quiet fast. I've asked swallow for advice/help on texturing but if you have any ideas on what kind of details I can add to the ship please feel free to share them Smile .
How I usually think realistically when I model. It gives you a good idea of how the ship should look (just don't exaggerate. This is Freelancer after all ^^). Imagine you're inside the ship right now, what would wish or hope to see inside it? Where would the engines be? The windows? Any satelite dish? Any hatches you can open from outside for quick repairs and maintenance? That's how I think when Im detailing and starting with something. I hope this helps, you're the creator of your art, you're the one to decide how it generally should look Wink
Already been said, but I will double: don't give up if you like it and you will get good in less than 50 models.
Working on a new model of battleship design, it's a work in progress but decided to post it to see what people thought.

Honestly I think this would look better as a liner than a battleship. If the little indents on the side were textured into windows It'd look pretty good for that purpose.

Not sure what you could really add to make this more battleship-y, it doesn't seem to fit that bill just from the general shape of it.

Actually, would love to see a passenger liner with this design, looks very fancy.
That's not a bad start, but there are so many faces on it! My computer has decided that it does not want to render it correctly.

Yes... it does look like a liner, now that someone mentioned it. Why does that make sense.
I hadn't considered liner ship class, but I could split the model into two branches a liner and a BS, see which one ends up looking best, should be an interesting challenge designing a liner class ship.
