Restarted as Hellfire Legion with its standard reputation. Immediately went directly to Newcastle killed a couple Wild NPC and docked at the IMG refinery there. Logged off and after a nice long sleep logged back in and undocked. Surprise, surprise, everything around me RED including the IMG station. Confusing even more coz my rep sheet still shows IMG as neutral.

Whats the explanation and how to fix it?

I'm gonna guess hostile Gateway NPCs were around that triggered IMG's empathy. Either making Gateway non-hostile or IMG highly friendly, if possible, would fix that.
