The Kurile Conflict

An unresolved dispute over ownership has turned to open conflict in Sigma 17 as hostilities between Samura Heavy Industries and the Gas Miners Guild reach their peak.
The ongoing battle between the two corporate giants has already seen the partial destruction of Kurile’s docking ring which has prevented standard commercial access, however smaller craft are allegedly being serviced via atmospheric landing windows operated by both sides of the conflict.

The contested claim of planet Kurile has raged behind the scenes for a number of years passing through a series of Kusari courts without a verdict rendered, before finally devolving into the current state of open warfare.
Officially discovered by surveyors from the Gas Miners Guild in 620 AS the planet was found to be highly toxic and possessing only a single form of basic life, the highly prized Alien Organism. Yet the worth of Kurile was only cemented upon the deployment of Samura’s floating platforms which allowed harvesting of the aforementioned organisms on an industrial scale.

Alien Organisms are a form of bacterial life unique to the Sirius sector that are highly efficient at metabolizing certain elements into oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide. This makes the commodity extremely useful in creating a breathable atmosphere upon worlds undergoing terraforming, accelerating the process upwards of tenfold. The organisms were also discovered to be a rich and abundant source of food for previously established ecosystems such as the fisheries of planet Junyo operated by Samura Heavy Industries.

Fighting over the planet and its valuable resource has already seen the capture of at least one floating platform by Gas Miners Guild forces, while beyond the atmosphere wings of fighters clash in a rare display of corporate warfare.
However reports suggest that both sides of the conflict are neither willing nor able to commit their full force to the battle over Kurile as more pressing issues occupy their respective military assets. The Blood Dragon insurgency on planet Tomioka continues to tie up much of Samura’s attention while the GMG faces a renewed drive in Rheinland expansionism, a concern triggered by their colonization of Hammersee in the Sigma 15 system.

The Kusari government and Naval Forces have yet to take action in response to the planetary dispute which has raised concerns and accusations of gross disinterest levelled against the Republic.
Regardless, both Samura Heavy Industries and the Gas Miners Guild continue to offer trade with any pilot willing to brave the opposition’s fire as demand for weaponry increases in the escalating ground war. This surge in small trades hips has allegedly gained the attention of the Hogosha and several criminal syndicates who have begun preying upon any shipment unfortunate enough to cross their path.

Ageira Technologies and the Travel Advisory urge caution against using non-standard planetary landing procedures and strongly advise all vessels avoid entering the Sigma 17 system until hostilities cease
