Liberty Navy Third Fleet

"When they charge, we will stand fast. Do not let the enemy ever see your fear. If you do, you've already lost."
- Rear Admiral Joseph Carney (Ret.)
February 13th, 817 A.S. - L.N.S. Enterprise, Hudson System

History
"From the roots of our foundations.."

The Third Fleet was established in 419 A.S. as the guard force for the Navy's sacred systems and military intelligence installations. Officially based on Planet Los Angeles, the fleet currently operates within the Shrouded Veil and the western half of Liberty, while also maintaining operations within the rest of Liberty and her borders.

Foundation (419 - 583 A.S.)

Officially banded in 419 A.S., the Third Fleet originally began as a small detachment of the Liberty Navy First Fleet, providing defense for the Alaska corridor and Zone-21. Over time, the Third began to expand, with warships and pilot from across the Republic joining the ranks and filling the holes needed to defend the nation's secrets. With the construction of the Prison Stations Mitchell and Fairbanks soon after, the Third was officially placed into the role of defender for the secret systems, the territory around them, and eventually the entire nation.

The early 500's A.S. were a token moment for the Third Fleet, as Liberty rebuilt from the tragedy of the Texas Incident. While the warships themselves were virtually useless, the logistics divisions of the Fleet aided in the removal of scattered debris and the rescue of personnel that weren't killed by the antimatter clouds. While the Fleet was vastly over shadowed by the civilian and other government effort, they were still recognized. Most personnel in the fleet were spared the ghastly effects of radiation exposure thanks to the rest of their comrades, and it has since been a defining moment in the fleet's history.

Intermediary (584 - 799 A.S.)

The Fleet's cycle period of usefulness was taken down to a smaller notch during the latter half of the sixth century and the whole of the seventh and eighth centuries A.S.. With the Republic normalizing, the Third Fleet sat back into their defensive role, the pilots of the Fleet taking to a more protective protocol. With the pirate groups of Liberty now forming, the Third mobilized it's forces to protect the nation from within. While no force could ever break the stronghold that was Zone-21, the Fleet couldn't afford to get lazy and comfortable.

It was during these years that the Fleet's Special Operations Bureau was founded, though throughout their years of operation have remained very tight lipped about what they've acted on. In fact, not much was known about them until 736 A.S., when Admiral Jason Kimston discovered the files from the prior CO. He reactivated the Bureau, instating several officers and effectively reviving it, to where it now operates to this day.

The Fleet continued to work to defend Liberty from the inside, the Navy doing it's duty and developing to protect the Republic.

The Nomad War (800 - 801 A.S.)

By the turn of the century, the Third Fleet became complacent despite effort to avoid it. Pilots became confident in their ability to repel measly bandits and thugs, and had little belief that a war would ever break out. In 800 A.S., the R.N.C. Donau, flagship of Admiral Hans Schutlzky, flew to Manhattan on a mission to meet with President Barbara Jacobi. The Third was assigned to provide security, placing the battleship L.N.S. Colorado in defense at Fort Bush in the event of something happening.

The Donau, upon final approach to Newark Station, was suddenly attacked by five fighters belonging to the Order. The fighters proceeded to destroy the cruiser, and in turn spark the conflict known as the Nomad War. The Third was then ordered by the Chain of Command to proceed with their original duties of defending the guard system of Alaska from insurgency, though little did they know that their own chain of command was already subdued by the alien threat.

Months passed, and upon the Order's daring attempt to capture President Jacobi from Prison Station Mitchell, the Third Fleet proceeded to take arms against the threat, though the forces of the Third only met the Order in Alaska and Zone-21 on their way out. With the captive Jacobi in hand, the Order, aided by the lost cruisers L.N.S. Utah and L.N.S. Phoenix, blasted through the blockade set up by the Third. Upon exit of the system, they were met by the aging battleship L.N.S. Omaha, which was attacked by the stolen Osiris.

The Common Time (802 A.S. - Present Day)

After the events of Zone-21, the Third Fleet proceeded to rebuild after their losses. Over the following years, the Fleet expanded in size, while still guarding Alaska and the newly acquired Virginia system. They rebuilt their assets, recruited new blood, and effectively built up their strength once more. Many changes in leadership occurred, most notably being the change from Admiral David Anderson to his XO Mark Ferguson in 824 A.S. While the change wasn't felt initially, the loss of Anderson's leadership, which he held for almost 17 years, was a small shock to the whole of the Fleet, but they will continue.

The Fleet continues to live on, standing firm like they did before, and will for now until they are removed, either by Liberty or a force more powerful than they.

Tactical
"Our boots echo like the thunder of gods.."

The 3rd Fleet currently maintains a standing fleet of 11 active warships, and while most of them are not mobile assets able to be moved out of the base system of Alaska, the remaining act as frontline warships to aid the rest of the Navy in the defense of the border.

Active mobile assets consist of:
3rd|LNS-Enterprise, Yorktown-class Assault Carrier ; Standing Flagship of the Fleet
3rd|LNS-Montana, Monument-class Dreadnought
3rd|LNS-Arkansas, Eagle-class Dreadnought
3rd|LNS-Washington, North Carolina-class Dreadnought
3rd|LNS-Arizona, New York-class Dreadnought
3rd|LNS-Omaha, Georgia-class Dreadnought
3rd|LNS-Canberra, Alaska-class Battlecruiser
3rd|LNS-Miasma, Juneau-class Battlecruiser
3rd|LNS-Helena, Kraken-class Battlecruiser
3rd|LNS-Pensacola, Pensacola-class Siege Cruiser
3rd|LNS-Turner.Joy, Forrest Sherman-class Gunship

Logistics
"Supply and demand.."

Aside from the tactical section of guns and armor, the Fleet's need to move heavy machinery, parts and other items to construct our Navy's might has spurred the formation of the Third Fleet Logistics Corps. The Corps, like most military logistics units, is tasked with the transport of construction materials, weapons, armor plating, cybernetics and fragile materials to destinations the Fleet needs them moved to.

At current, the Logistics Corps is maintaining its fleet-wide HQ on Norfolk, used in joint cooperation by the Liberty First, Fifth, Sixth and secondary fleets to better organize the war effort. Other stations supplied by the Corps include Willard Research Station and Fairbanks in Alaska, but these are secondary to the main hub of the Logistical wheel.

Diplomacy
"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.."

Intelligence
"Cloak and dagger, shadow and veil.."

Based out of Alaska, the Third Fleet's separate intelligence division, the Operational Security Containment Division (OSCD), works to keep the Fleet's interests as an independent group within the Liberty Navy within arm's reach. Working alongside the ESRD and NIS, the OSCD has operational limits to anything the Fleet is pursuing, and has authorization to work outside of Liberty's borders, if only for the purpose of gathering intelligence and relaying.

OSCD HQ is maintained aboard the Battleship Arkansas under command of Vice Admiral Michelle Collins. While the decision to maintain the formal HQ on a mobile asset may perhaps be a foolish decision, the mobility of the Arkansas maintains that the OSCD can operate with more fluidity, and keep up the idea that 'Navy eyes are everywhere'.

Enlistment
"What matters is their heart.."

Currently, the Fleet maintains a Code Yellow status due to the ongoing war with Gallia and the threat of invasion. Enlistment has been deemed a closed deal, though exceptions can be made to officers and enlistees who wish to transfer, or have shown the aptitude to assist and support the Liberty Third Fleet. Requests to transfer or enlist can be made here.

Commissioned Warships Roster

L.N.S. Enterprise - LCV-6

Class: Yorktown-class Assault Carrier
Date-of-Completion: August 17th, 824 A.S.
Serial Number: 1023842
CO: Captain Matthias B. Gardner
XO: Commander Keshawn Martin

The L.N.S. Enterprise is a Third Fleet staple and the eighth of her name, being the seventh carrier-class vessel to bear the iconic name. The previous Enterprise (LAC-87) before her had a starkly positive history, being present at both the Battle of Houston Minor and the famed Three Hour Sortie. Upon her decommission in 823 A.S., she was one of the most decorated warships in the Liberty Navy, with eight battle stars and four gallant unit merits to her name.

The newer Enterprise is a Yorktown-class Heavy Assault Carrier that is a significant technological improvement over the aging design of the elder. She's fitted with more advanced Mk17 propulsion systems and is equipped with a fairly handy Virtual Intelligence system, which the crew so jokingly refers to as 'Vicky'. Alongside her rather impressive internal systems, she is also fitted with Class-V hull reinforcements, as well as a more lethal armament of over 20 high impact secondary turrets, nicknamed 'chatters' by the helm and gunnery control.

Overall, she stands as a hefty warship awaiting her own moment of glory alongside the other famous vessels in her name.

L.N.S. Arkansas - LBS-403

Class: Eagle-class Liberty Dreadnought
Date-of-Completion: May 17th, 783 A.S.
Serial Number: 0982383
CO: Captain Katelyn Prescott
XO: Commander Arthur Cunningham

Constructed in 783 A.S., the Arkansas is debatably the most famous warship in service in the Third Fleet. Her service in the Third goes back to her original christening, being brought in as the flagship of the Fleet before the construction of the sixth incantation of the Enterprise, and taking a minor role during the Nomad War where she engaged invading Rheinland forces in both Hudson and Texas. During recent years, the Arkansas saw action during the Rhein-Liberty War where she successfully engaged and destroyed the Rheinland battleship R.N.C. Heinsmacht in Hudson, the cruisers R.N.C. Vierskampf and R.N.C. Mainz in Bering, and most famously the R.N.C. Bremerhaven in the notorious Battle of Houston Minor.

After the war with Rheinland, the Arkansas was set due for a refit, but was damaged by raiding Rogue and Lane Hacker forces before she could be properly moored at Norfolk. Now refitted and repaired, the Arkansas returns to her duty of defending the Libertonian homeland from any and all threats.

L.N.S. Montana - LBS-427

Class: Monument-class Heavy Assault Dreadnought
Date-of-Completion: May 30th, 794 A.S.
Serial Number: 0722831
CO: Commodore Aaron Bixly
XO: Commander Matthew Robbins

One of the most dated ships in service to the Third, the Montana has served on every front presented to her in her time of action. She was in Alaska during the Nomad War, on the front with Rheinland and in the pits during the evacuation of Leeds. Known in to her crew as The Mighty 'tana, the ship garnered a stark reputation as one of the most rugged warships ever put to service, the strong frame and heavy armor protection giving her the tagline of 'the most durable tin can the Navy's ever put to sea'.

Captained by the rather recently promoted Commodore Aaron Bixly, the ship maintains a watch over the Third's main HQ in California, standing sentinel in the event of royalist incursions.

L.N.S. Omaha - LBS-173

Class: Georgia-class Heavy Artillery Dreadnought
Date-of-Completion: August 14th, 752 A.S.
Serial Number: 0622314
CO: Rear Admiral Allen Bradley
XO: Captain Casey Chase

By far the oldest active duty warship in the Fleet, and the third by age in the entire Navy, the Omaha is the crowning jewel of the Third Fleet and the motivation for ships built after her. An aging Georgia-class dreadnought, the Omaha is a hefty tool for the Fleet, and has a fairly impressive history by herself. Ten commendation medals, each awarded by past Admirals, and numerous awards both in and outside of battle, this warship is not only a force to be reckoned with, but a monument to the ruggedness of the Libertonian spirit.

L.N.S. Arizona - LBS-539

Class: New York-class Heavy Assault Dreadnought
Date-of-Completion: September 20th, 824 A.S.
Serial Number: 1422950
CO: Rear Admiral Daisuki Aramaki
XO: Captain Emma Woods

Slated for construction in late 824 A.S., the Arizona is designated to be the newest addition to the lineup of the Third Fleet. A newly christened New York-class battleship, the ship will be a stark change from the usual aging warships of the fleet. Armed with the newest in Liberty gunnery technology, the ship will be a test-bed for many of the newer systems being deployed by the Navy, most notably the heavier arms now available to installation. Time will tell where she fits in the Fleet.

L.N.S. Washington - LBS-335

Class: North Carolina-class Heavy Assault Dreadnought
Date-of-Completion: January 26th, 819 A.S.
Serial Number: 0882129
CO: Rear Admiral Alice Shepard
XO: Captain Felix Roth

Constructed during the height of the Rheinland war, the Washington took her namesake from the legendary ancient General who lead the forces of his army to victory against their oppressors. Taking that namesake into the battlefield against the Rheinland Military, she earned it in blood and sweat, her crew earning a solid reputation for efficiency and mechanical superiority versus even the more technologically advanced "Overlord"-class battleships. First debuting her strength in the famed Battle of Houston Minor, Washington showed her battle strength in full, assisting in the destruction of the Rheinland battleship R.N.C. Bremerhaven alongside the L.N.S. Arkansas. With a beautiful service record, a colorful set of ribbons and medals decorating this ship, she continues to serve hard and strong, determined to remove the Gallic threat from Liberty's borders.

L.N.S. Canberra - LBC-277

Class: Alaska-class Long Range Assault Battlecruiser
Date-of-Completion: January 10th, 799 A.S.
Serial Number: 0981231
CO: Captain Alara Beckett
XO: Commander Rachel Dawes

Constructed just before the turn of the century, the Canberra is one of the last two remaining Alaska-class battlecruisers from before the Nomad war. Built at Norfolk before the onset of war, the Canberra, along side her sister ships Alaska, Guam, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and Samoa, served the Liberty Navy for several years after their construction. After losing Puerto Rico and Alaska in the war with Rheinland, and the Samoa and Hawaii to maintenance costs, Guam and Canberra were left as the two sole pre-nomad war battlecruisers in the Navy's arsenal.

The Canberra herself has always operated as a guided-missile cruiser, while her counterpart Guam remains in drydock for refits to a more direct confrontation style of vessel. Both ships saw heavy combat usage during the Rhein-Liberty War, seeing to the defense of Houston during the famous Battle of Houston Minor and the 3-hour Skirmish. A relic of her time, she continues to prove her grit, having yet to fail, both to impress and accomplish.

L.N.S. Helena - LBC-305

Class: Kraken-class Artillery Support Battlecruiser
Date-of-Completion: July 20th, 820 A.S.
Serial Number: 1152731
CO: Rear Admiral Alice Shepard
XO: Lieutenant Commander Carson Daily

The Helena was originally commissioned with the mindset that it will reinforce California's defenses should an incursion ever take place. However, with the LSF having problems with security on Prision Station Mitchell, the Admiralty offered to aid them for a short time, the Helena only just being released from Juneau's drydock. For the five years since she left the drydock, she stood guard and regulated flow from Mitchell. However, after the loss of Pearl Harbour, the order was given for the Helena to reinforce the California system and prevent more loss of life and assets of the Republic.

L.N.S. Pensacola - LSC-294

Class: Pensacola-class Siege Cruiser
Date-of-Completion: October 22nd, 803 A.S.
Serial Number: 1284121
CO: Varies

A fairly typical siege cruiser, the Pensacola is so far the Third Fleet's only active cruiser on record with the defection of the Shamrock Bay to the Harmony Separatists. Armed with numerous long range arms, the ship is as home-born as a cruiser can get, having seen numerous sorties in both Texas and Hudson. With the captain's position forever in change, Pensacola needs to be ready at a moment's notice, and she's so far never failed to disappoint.

Class: Forrest Sherman-class Gunship
Date-of-Completion: November 4th, 804 A.S.
Serial Number: 1111211

XO: Varies

A very unique unit in the the Third Fleet's roster, the Turner Joy is a standard naval gunboat, old to the Third's standard, and brimming with firepower enough to rival an Oder. However, after her recent refit and a donation from transferred Captain Alissa Murray, in place of the usual cruiser disruptor launcher, Turner Joy is armed with a fully functional, albeit untested, Nuclear EMP launcher. Time will tell where and/or when this device will come into use, but it's certainly an ace up the sleeves of the Navy, allowing for a very quick, decisive win to any operation, regardless of numbers.
