I tried installing Vanilla Freelancer via the link on these boards but repeatedly ran into this issue:

Might ne a silly question, but was the Freelance installer the only application opened in that moment?

As for the installation, are you running on Windows with full administrator priveleges?
Yeah I brought it up with "Run as administrator". When it gave me this issue the first time I rebooted the entire system just to be sure there wasn't anything else running it.
