Hey guys do you think its enough just sniffin around, tradin and killin eachother to say "yes! thats i call really cool game server!"? Eh? Even some teenager admins managin 80% of German servers know how to increase server population and IMHO random admin-initiated events are the best way to do it. Im flyin here time-to-time since version 1.81 and i see how this server dies slowly after the 4.83... I remember the time when i was unable to connect because server was full any time after 19;00 to 02:00 Smile
LES DO IT AGAIN!
EVENTS WILL RULE!
We're.. kinda already doing this?
No you dont Smile Where are some trade / Catch / Invasion / Escort or any other really fun basic freelancer Events? Not everyone have top caps to kill overpovered aliens or any other super/mega/giga bosses Smile This server needs some new blood and here must be some events for beginners, maybe some giving credits or ships or any other game stuff. In this case human fantazy is limited just by game engine capability and this one is really capable to do more than admins doing here Smile
You must've missed all the recent trade events.
Maybe. but i think even 1 event per week isnt enough Smile am i right?
Trade events are very tricky to do often enough for them to not have a directly negative influence not only on areas from which the players are drawn from during the event itself, but also the economy of the server as a whole.
Right now I pulled up the trade event statistics from the old "Exchange Of Plesantries" event (since I had it on my google drive) and the event in total added an additional 9 185 000 000$ into the game environment, most of which was achieved by the top 20 participants, if you count only the ones who made over 200mil credits during this event.

Newbie events, by the way, are even harder as you do not know how physically adjusted they are to the game just yet. I've done some PVE events in Penny in the past and saw players end up dying to literally the most weakest mission npcs we have in the game, the ones which do 30dmg per shot. If it is not that - it is the fact that more experienced players are eager to take part in these events and bring their battleships. That is their right and there is no actual reason to restrict them - as even their presence is what I would say - inspiring for the newbie to see, but it still leaves an issue to be solved.

I am also going to argue, gathered from evaluating my own events, that constant events are detrimental to the server activity as it gives little to no reason to log when there aren't any events going on. Events should be kept, mostly, a rare and special occurance unless we are eager to take steps to make them proper. Such as lowering all trade route income by 30% and keep running events that offer that 30% increase to keep within range of the balanced income values while allowing for longer events.

The latest event between Sigma-13 and Frankfurt is a long-requested attempt to make events more ''meaningful'' and the story developers were heavily involved in this, going to the point of making physical changes to the system it is being hosted in via patch. Whether or not this will work is up to them.
I think non-cash rewards are definitely the way to go with events, including trade ones. Just a standard c/sec per run with some kind of reward received after reaching a certain threshold ought to be fine imo.
Except that the winner would be whoever has enough time. Balancing the events against players with the most IRL time and patience is not the way to go either.
If we look at the statistics of trade events, the gulf between the first place and second is often enough hundreds of thousands of units of cargo.

You may want to wait a couple of months and explore how the entire community works before you actually ask doing these kinds of things more than "1" a week.
There are actually some pretty fun snap events (kudos to Spazzy for 'em) that go on.

They can happen at any time with little to no warning, so there are more events going on than you think.

The one where I was the only GRN ID logged facing a tide of the lolberty hordes was !!Fun!! until other GRN logged after incessant poking the GRN chats is a good example.
