Konbanwa, honourable allies,

It's been a while since we've had a chance to communicate. Today, however, i contact you on quite a special matter, with full understanding your Professorship might - and most likely will - turn down my request.
But i still prefer to take up the risk rather than not taking it at all.

Since the very beginning of the Clan's existance it utilised quite an unusual philosophy for the Blood Dragons and valued technological advantage over personal pilots' skills, and i have been trying my best to maintain this stance by my every decision made so far.
And chasing after this philosophy eventually brought me to you. While we're successfully replacing outdated Imperial designs with more advanced recent developments of Naval Forces - there is something even they are unable to provide us with.
And this 'something' is the advanced long-range scanners. While we still have our means to obtain Jintsuriki scanners, they have proven to be less effective considering the high cost of producing for one such scanner, which makes it simply unreliable tech for a single clan to produce in large amounts.

On that very few times we've met i've had an opportunity for a brief scanning of your ships - and what caught my eye was a model of scanners i have honestly never seen before; it becomes apparent that it was constructed by your faction exclusively and it might be just equal to those super-expensive Jintsuriki.

The question is if you would allow Augus Clan to utilise this technology and what would be your conditions making this possible?
I will be looking forward to your response, Professors.

Konnichiwa Augus-san,

I am afraid what you're asking for is impossible due to numerous reasons - mostly technical and financial. As a sign of our goodwill and friendship I will disclose to you a small excerpt from the top secret documentation that while does not contain any technical details explains the general concept of our solution. This way I hope you will understand better the reasons why granting your request is impossible.

Spyglass Network Architecture is a three tier system based on the idea of distributed network of processing units that in the case of insufficient performance falls back on decentralized network of processing hubs. While a typical very heavy fighter can mount at least a rudimentary array of Spyglass antennas and sensors it cannot host a processing unit powerful enough to accommodate the raw signal and translate it into useful data in real time. The solution to this problem is to simply share the raw signal data with other processing units to make it possible.

Tier I
A wing of several small vessels can connect to each other directly creating a small distributed network of processing units. One of the ships with installed Spyglass scanner shares raw signal data with all its peers in the network and together they simultaneously compute and render the scanning results. A latency of this solution will be minimal.

Tier II
If a there are not enough vessels in range to create a fully autonomous distributed processing network, a Lane Hacker ship can connect directly to the closest processing hub. Mactan, Cochrane, Leiden and Airdrie will compose a decentralized network capable of near instant compilation of compressed raw signal data and returning fully processed results to a lone Lane Hacker vessel in range. Latency of this solution will be negligible.

Tier III
Finally, if a lone Lane Hacker ship is not in range of any of our processing hubs it can still use a nearby lane network to reach it through Neural Net. This solution will be the most risky and erroneous due to typical security measures of the lane network, possibility of detection and finally limited bandwidth. However, maintaining low profile and performing only short scanning bursts should minimize those risk to acceptable levels.

As you can see Spyglass Network Scanners installed on small ships are nothing more than clients connecting to the Spyglass Network servers hosted on our bases and composed of the infrastructure that was being built for years and cost billions of credits. It works well in Liberty due to several factors such as dense network of trade lanes, our expertise in hacking the neural net and a relatively dense network of our bases themselves. Neither of these apply to Kusari where we do not have our own infrastructure to host the Network.

Unlike our network version, Minified Spyglass Scanner is a fully autonomous unit. If you are interested we can deliver them just for manufacturing costs without any market fees.

Professor Provocateur

Konbanwa, Nicole Hunter of Lane Hackers,

I am grateful for your quick response, as well as the explaination and disclosing of classified information to make my understanding of the trouble more... clear, let us put it that way.

However, there were an issue in my approach, i should have considered an opportunity of existance of autonomous version of your technologically advanced scanners; obtaining them should satisfy both sides of the negotiations.

We will be expecting the first shipment of the scanners as soon as you will be able to prepare it. Should i order additional escorts to be dispatched, or would you prefer to make this clean and quiet, without attracting unwanted attention?

And there is the major question regarding our interest in the said autonomous scanners - what is the manufacturing cost of the said scanners?

Konnichiwa Augus-san,

The stand-alone Minified Spyglass Scanner has unparalleled cargo scanning range though offers slightly lesser detection range than Kishiro's Jintsuriki. The manufacturing cost oscillates around 249 000 000 SC per unit. If you're not sure how many of them you want to obtain we may provide you with one test item so you are sure this is the technology you want. It would be probably most convenient if we could complete the transfer at Leiden or Morioka. Please let me now how many items do you wish us to prepare.

Professor Provocateur
