History

Liam Mueller's childhood was absolutely average in every way, and had little impact on the man that he became. The first major event in his life was his enrollment in the Rheinland Military at the age of 18, in 799 A.S. He completed basic training and, during assessments immediately after, was identified as a strong candidate for engineering training. During the entirety of the Nomad War, as well as for a short time beyond its conclusion, Liam was trained as a member of the military's Corp of Engineers aboard Battleship Altenburg. The Altenburg's position in Dresden, far from the conflicts with Kusari and Liberty, kept him focused on his studies, and he graduated fourth in his class.

At the completion of his military education, Liam's first assignment was to help rebuild critically damaged infrastructure from the Nomad War. The most significant assignment during this period in his life was to New Berlin directly, where the damage caused when a Nomad-infested battle cruiser's crew "went crazy" and caused the ship to crash into one of the planet's larger cities, gutting several skyscrapers. In reality, the battle cruiser's Nomad incubi were disabled completely when the hypergate was opened, and the cruiser was crashed unintentionally. With Rheinland corporations suffering just as much as the government during the War's fallout, the team Liam served on was responsible for reconstructing offices for Kruger Mineralien and Republican Shipping. This particular incident spurred Liam's interest not only in ship design, but in how hull design could influence the damage received by a vessel from kinetic and energy impacts.

Working his way gradually through the military over years of service, eventually Liam rose to a position of responsibility. He led the rapid response engineering teams assigned to Battleship Westfalen in Hamburg beginning in 820 A.S. In this role, he not only led the repair, refit and engineering crews that worked on Rheinland Military resources, but regularly contributed to projects for Republican Shipping on Altona Station and at Alster Shipyard, as well as working with the Rheinland Police on upgrades and retrofits to Vierlande Prison. It is in this role that, in 824 A.S., he and his teams were called to the scene of the Unioner gas attack on Alster. In the confusion in response to the attack, there was no clarity regarding the extent of physical damage, so the Military Corps of Engineers responded with Liam at the helm.

On arriving at Alster, Liam directly witnessed the death caused by the Unioners. That meaningfully impacted him, and over the weeks that followed, the middle-aged engineer found himself trying to figure out what could push someone to do something like that. Through that research, and subtle communication with Unioner sympathizers, Liam became indoctrinated to their cause himself. He further pushed several of his team leaders and members along the same lines, and eventually, defected. Bringing three full teams of military engineers to the Wedel Mining Facility in Hamburg, Liam offered himself to the Union and their cause, and offered his teams' expertise to accomplish their goals.

Excited by the sudden influx of additional technical talent, the Union proved Liam's trustworthiness through assistance in retrofitting three old Bayern-class battleships that were extremely out of date. He brought to the Union knowledge of recent military weapons, shielding, defensive and mounting technologies that improved the vessels, and tweaked them to be closer to modern standards as much as the Union's limited resources would allow. Upon completion of those projects, including a recognition of service directly from Union leadership, Liam was offered command of one of those battleships. He took on command training and, when done, assumed command of the Battleship SLF Tizerhuk, his current assignment. He now leads the vessel not only in combat, but with his engineering teams still aboard, set up for rapid deployment to any Union position or facility in need of technical expertise.
