This is an event concept I've had in mind for some time and I'm putting it to you guys to see what kind of reception it gets. If it shows promise then i'll take the idea forward for a trial run, and we'll see where we go from there.

Introducing

The Border Worlds Derby |

The Border Worlds Derby is an underground racing event where the pilots risk it all in a bid to win the first place purse and be crowned champion of each circuit. Onlookers place bets on their favourites to add some spice to the spectatorship and potentially take home winnings of their own.

Rules |

Border Worlds Cup Rules |

The championship is decided in a series of three races in which all contestants participate. In order to qualify for the first, second or third place purse, the contestant must participate in all three races. Points are awarded with respective of each contestant's finishing position after each race and the number of K.O.s accumulated between the time of the race's commencement and the finish time of the contestant who is last to pass the finish line.

Contestants must pass through each of the race rings and/or checkpoints to qualify for a position on the finishing scoreboard. The race is invigilated throughout it's course to ensure this criteria is met. Likewise, the finishing line is also supervised to ensure the score is kept accurately and fairly.

Points after each race awarded to each contestant on positioning are as follows:
  • 1st: 10
  • 2nd: 9
  • 3rd: 8
  • 4th: 7
  • 5th: 6
  • 6th: 5
  • 7th: 4
  • 8th: 3
  • 9th: 2
  • 10th: 1

Contestants who's ships are immobilised or destroyed during a race (K.O.d) are then knocked out of that race and will be placed below all other contestants that finish, other contestants K.O.d after the time of their demise, and above other constants K.O.d before the time of their demise. Contestants who are K.O.d will be awarded the same amount of points as a contestant that had finished the race once the rankings are decided. Contestants that have been K.O.d cannot re-enter a race after it has begun, but may participate in any proceeding races.

Additional points are awarded for K.O.s inflicted on other contestants which will be tallied up seperately over the course of the three races and added to that contestant's final score. Points for K.O.s are not valid until the contestant in pole position passes the first race ring. The Scoring for K.O.s per race are as follows:
  • 1 K.O.: 2
  • 2 K.O.s: 4
  • 3 K.O.s: 6

Prizes and Betting |

The purses up for grabs will be announced before the arrangement of each set of races and will be sourced in part from funds provided by The Border Worlds Derby organisation and betting proceeds.

Betting will be handled by the [Angels] team and all bets are to be paid out by funds raised by The Border Worlds Derby organisation. Betting will be dynamic and capped to minimise collateral. The odds will change depending on the most popular betting trends and the most consistent winners.

This is a very rough draft of something I am currently refining to resemble something watertight. Let me know what your thoughts are and if you'd participate in something like this.
