A Costly Cleanup

Sector-renowned ALG Waste Disposal purportedly “declared war” on Bretonia and her assets two weeks ago, in response to their controversial decision to commandeer the Independent Miners’ Guild’s Aland Shipyard, in orbit of the Omega-3 star.

The Guild and ALG have long shared a mutual partnership for security in the face of pirate and terrorist organizations, but this incident has forced their defense pact’s enactment against a Colony authority for the first time in their histories - An action without precedent, and with potentially far-reaching consequences for both Bretonia and Rheinland.

These skirmishes between a House authority and a corporation may mark the first time such a conflict has occurred without the backing of the latter’s own house since the Eighty Years War. Defending Aland Shipyard are IMG security forces complimented by the ALG battlecruiser Erdbeben and her vaunted Beta Squadron. Augmenting this corporate phalanx are several cruisers and bomber wings of the dangerous terrorist organization known as the Red Hessians, adding to the bizarre diplomatic fiasco.

ALG’s bold declaration and subsequent actions in the Omegas have worried investors as well as Bundesrepublik-and-private banking agencies alike. Brokers are reported to be selling company stock at record speed; with some economists pointing to this desperation as having the hallmarks of a possible market crash or recession.

The waste disposal giant’s financial assests have been frozen, and most of its planetary facilities in Rheinland have been seized. The Rheinland government has made it clear that no ALG ship will be welcome on official stations and bases until further notice, and have instructed other Rheinland corporations to deny them access as well. What’s more, the corporation has been publicly denounced by the Federal Republic, with some political pundits even going so far as to label ALG a “terrorist organization”. It is unknown whether Bretonia has pressured Rheinland into denouncing ALG’s behaviour, or if they are acting of their own initiative. What is certain however, is that ALG’s future in Rheinland seems bleak, and the company will need to shift its activity outside of the Federal Republic for the foreseeable future.
